The GAA has amateur players performing at a professional level. It has also truly amateur administration at the highest levels. tyroneed (Tyrone) - Posts: 753 - 31/05/2021 13:12:52 2346936 Link 3 |
Same thing happened last year, more than a fair chance we would have won the league if the GAA had played the final. Precedent was set then. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4445 - 31/05/2021 13:27:24 2346947 Link 1 |
And I'm not denying that. It's good that it's highly competitive and taken seriously in the lower divisions and long may that continue. But at Liam McCarthy level it is only a warm up competition and for experimenting.

Isn't it amazing all the same the amount of lads that are ( not from Kerry ) that are the first to react. I like that. And , the lovely Michael, with only the one username too. You must think we all came down in the last shower. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 31/05/2021 14:43:55 2346998 Link 1 |

why can't people recognise it for what it is this year and get over it. Its preseason for the championship that doesn't have any real impact except for those demoted from div 2 (next year assuming the new championship format comes into play and even then they have a chance to go straight back up). Cooper must feel a bit upset that nobody is talking about the football this year and the hurling panelists are talking up a storm of controversy.

I see merit in this idea.

And what if the best two teams in one of them groups ? There is a strong possibility that both mayo and Meath will progress and get promoted but if we used that system Meath would have lost out.

It's almost as amazing as you being able to bring Kerry into any topic.

Yeah, if anything it makes the league final way more important than usual.

No it was different last year. There were no semi finals last year and there never was going to be. A semi final means there should be a final. Why have semi s if there s a chance of not being a final. It does nt make sense.

Catch or mermaid must ve very wet. Obviously did come down in the last shower. I have one Username and one only and I can swear on my life and kids life on it. Can others? I wonder. Insecure folk might need another username. I'm not afraid to air my views upfront. I don't have to hide like some. Some folk way off the mark. There is none so blind as those who can't see.

And who said an extra weeks rest is critical before a major knock out game ? And extra on top of what ? There will still be a two week gap between the Ulster final and the All-Ireland semi final, which is perfect, so I don't see what the issue is, any more is too much. I'd sooner have a two week break that a three week break, assuming there's no injuries of course, which no one can plan for anyway. Of course Meath would have lost out, because they couldn't beat Mayo. That doesn't take from the suggestion. There's a thing called the luck of the draw. Anyway, there's nothing at all between Clare, Kildare and Meath when it comes to football. You might find that out a bit sooner than you anticipate. At least, we'd have had a final and some definite conclusion to each division. foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 1925 - 31/05/2021 17:02:57 2347096 Link 1 |
Don't really care. How many people can remember anything about league finals from 2 or 3 years ago? If the finals were to go ahead this year, some teams would not take them seriously anyway - they would just rest a bunch of players for the following week's championship match, so what's the point? Well someone has to lose out Royal Dunne. I mean two teams qualifying for a semi out of 4 is a bit Irish anyway. I would like nothing more than seeing Meath back at the top table but not this way. The 2nd team could still play for promotion but the top one from each group straight into final. However it is what it is and now there s still no reason why they could nt play final week s after semi finals.

Teams who reach the final of a competition deserve to play that final. These finals could and should be played in Croke Park on a National League Finals weekend. The semi finals should be played this weekend and the finals should be played on the following weekend. That would leave a fortnight for all teams to prepare for the championship. Who are the clowns who come up with these rules?
