Still a serious side Mayo, could very possibly see each other in a few weeks time!

Galway will be our first serious test since the All Ireland final last December. Throw injuries and co I'd into the mix...it's very hard to call. One thing we will get is fight and never say die attitude from whatever 15-20 take the field. They will give it their all, if it's enough then great, if not then so be it. We go again again next year.

Replying To Mayonman:  "I don't know about that. The negativity is crazy on Galway forum. One or two Mayo posters (including yourself) who to be fair are great crack, good banter.

There is one lad who thinks we'll hammer everyone but i think he's just trying to wind up the others!

Is U20 game on TG4?"
In reality, wind-up merchants apart, most expect the usual tight game Mayoman and hopefully the covid factor will be brought under control or there could be a few more championship debuts for Mayo side.

Looks like U20 game between between the AI U20 champions and the county who ran them closest last year didn't appeal to the TG4 schedulers. Someone on the U20 thread has it as a Connacht GAA streamer.

I know for the league games, the county board have to agree to let Tg4 show the game, so I would think its the GAA trying to make the most money they can out of it by streaming it themselves for 10 euro

That makes a lot more sense Tommy. Apologies to the TG4 schedulers for my misdirected suspicions.

Replying To Pericles:  "Reading in your own Galway pages Mayoman there are a few who are getting as carried away on the back of Matthew Tierney's performance against the Rossies (his only championship game), looking past the Connacht final and how ye might catch the Dubs. Reminds me of the hype surrounding Sean Andy not that long ago."
I don't think anybody was getting too carried away by Mattie Tierney's performance. Yes, he did very well and brings a great skill set but he's very young and needs time. Expectation is fairly measured in Galway I think. He's a different proposition to the Sean Andy of the last year or two in terms of his prep, effort and application. Nobody that knows anything about football in Galway is looking past the Connacht Final - how on earth could we? With Horan getting it switched to Croke Park to suit the Mayo setup, we have to recalibrate from the team planned for Castlebar. Looking forward to a ding dong battle and a bit of craic and good banter on the day.

You mightn't like the alternative jerseys, but they do have a purpose when two counties with common enough (predominantly green) jerseys meet. Dubs and KK have totally unique colours, while Cork rarely meet another county with a red jersey (only Louth use one, though I think when they play Galway doesn't one county wear white?).

It is strange though seeing Mayo in any colours other than red, green or white, even if the last few alternate kits have been quite smart IMO. I remember us playing Kerry in 2005 and we both wore predominately green kits, which was fairly confusing to watch.

As regards the Galway match, it's a toss up. We're going in very undercooked and missing a lot of experience between the retirements, Covid-related absences and injuries. Galway were also missing a few last year in Salthill and ran us to within a point, so they do have a chance.

I'd also have some worries about us going up against strong attacking sides given some of the scores conceded during the league. IMO Clarke and Barrett in particular are massive losses that will take a few years to replace fully.

I said at the beginning of the year that promotion back to Division One and a Nestor Cup would be an excellent year and anything else is really in bonus territory. Hopefully the lads can achieve part two of that at HQ (shades of league final 2001 perhaps?).

It was designed by a 5 year old in an Elverys competition to design a new jersey. It's a fine jersey compared to modern Gaa jersies but definitely agree with you in that it's not a Mayo jersey.

I'm with you there Gleebo on Barrett and Clarke. We've got a lot of mobility in the backs but as a set of defenders the new lads may be lacking a bit of aggressiveness when compared with the lads who've retired. But JH has a way of cutting his cloth to suit what's available tactically and he has gone out of his way to promote pace. I think Galway will likely move young Tierney into FF and Comer is likely to come out the field. They'll definitely be looking to hit Tierney with the sort of ball which Rob Hennelly can be uncomfortable under having seen what O'Neill was able to do in the second half of the Clare game. None of our backs are dominant aerially so plans will need to be carefully laid. The Dubs have similar sized backs and no one has ever got much change out of them with route 1, but that brings us back to aggressiveness which the Dubs backs have in spades. Our new lads at the back will need to step it up a notch if we're to win.

DOC to start, no team selection issues due to covid.

Team selected, looks pretty strong, good looking forward line , without Cillian, which of them would you drop or move if Cillain was fit. Both McLaughlins also miss out but again who would you leave out to accommodated them, two great men to come on when needed. Very Happy O Hora is kept at Full Back and Oisin at CHB.

Likely will be the usual couple of changes from the team announced. Good to see Lee and DOC back. Am still looking at that back 4 and wondering. Darren McHale has been lively and his form rewarded, but this is a couple of steps up so hopefully he'll adapt. Surprised neither Kevin Mc or Eoghan Mc are not in the starting team, but that could be where changes will happen?

Wow Galway had the game in the palm of their hands....

Make no mistake this result is because Galway stopped playing in the second half not due to the talent of Mayo. Is bottling things the defining trait of Connacht teams?

Dublin to beat Mayo by 5/6 points

I'm sickened with the second half.

I think your poor first half will give ye a lot to work on which is no bad thing heading into the semi final

Hope O Hora is ok and good luck in the semi final.

Best team won

Ruane, O Hora, Mullin and O Donoghue were absolutely immense today. Well done Horan McDonald and co.
