Tyrone Vs Donegal

It was a tackle to his arm holding the ball. Wasn't a shot to the guts. He didn't dive on this occasion but he went down like he had been shot. He's a top quality player which is why it annoys me even more when he acts like he shouldn't be tackled. Can't stand Michael mckieran on the Tyrone team either for similar behaviour.

Over all how happy are the Donegal fans with their teams performance today? Tyrone seemed flat today but suppose we can't look too much into the first game.

Do joint managers work?? I would argue they don't for me. Like who is the actual boss and it seems a cop out from the guys involved- oh well I am only the joint manager isn't me. We tried it here and it failed, Roscommon tried it and it failed so why are Tyrone going down this road?? They have done it before and they should have leraned their lesson would you.

But he does dive. .

Unfortunately the game has now died a bit."

Good enough win, Murphy dragged us over the line again, what a man, the way he reads the game and is always there when it counts, we'll never see the likes of him again in our lifetime anyway.
Lot of wides from Tyrone and the red card was telling, not much between either side, Tyrone got a free in near the end, can't rem who was involved but anyway the Tyrone mans running towards a static defender and he tucks the ball under his arm and dives into the Donegal man, on what planet is that a free in? referees really baffle me at times, tough job I know but this happened right in front of the ref.
Anyway great to have football back, next thing now is to get the fans back in.

Unintended to the guts I would say being fair, it's these tackles in Gaelic football where a loose hand at paces goes in, no big malice but at the pace the game is played at, it can work out the way it did. Look, as I said it wasn't a booking and it wasn't a dirty game. Thought it was a fine game first day out actually.

I thought Tyrone looked well up for it first half and start of the second. Seemed to tire and then late on found a second wind. With McShane and Canavan up top with McKenna they will be more clinical. I liked Tyrone's shape and a lot of what they were doing. In saying that, Donegal were sharp and wasted little which was pleasing.

No he doesn't dive, get a life. He is fouled constantly because he is a lethal runner with the ball and it's how most teams manage him. Given space he causes damage and because of the player he is, he always shows for the ball no matter how many raps he gets. Would love you see you stay up all the time under the attention he gets.

Our Royal correspondent has threw his two penny's worth in. Wasn't a clear sending off as it was a second yellow. Learn the game. Good to see you watching the big boys.

We are happy we won in Omagh. how we performed is kinda beside the point. I saw better and worse donegal performances.

A very decent result and one which will have pleased the Donegal management. I thought we controlled the game well and slowed the tempo when needed. We were sloppy enough in possession at times with a few wayward handpasses but I suppose a certain amount of rustiness is to be expected after such a long layoff.

Was surprised to see O'Neill appear in the second half, he was a walking red card waiting to happen regardless of whether or not the McHugh tackle warranted a second yellow.

Tyrone were wasteful at times and I'd imagine it will only increase the clamour to see the likes of Canavan, Bradley etc starting games.

For ourselves, Murphy was immense yet again. His last point summed the man up. A score was needed and he duly delivered. Thought McGee was solid and Hugh McFadden was excellent until the bang to the head forced him off at half time.

Good early signs when you consider we have players like MacNiallais, Ban Gallagher, McMenamin still to come back in.

Good open game, some fine scores either side, neither team looked like closing it out. Our defence was very charitable. Murphy still the difference for Donegal.

Replying To The_Fridge:  "Blame the red card?

Donegal were the better team, simply as

Murphy ran the show, P McB looked back to somewhere near is best.

We were extremely open at the back. Donegal ran though us time and time again.

Bonner looked relaxed and calm on the sideline, no selectors or hangers on around him, strong and decisive.

Logan looked clueless and panicked the whole time.

Welcome to the big league's lads.

That was a tough watch to be honest."
Really? Looked a bit annoyed, but nothing more than that.

Agree about the Ref, both teams got frees that baffled me. Not a bad advertisement for Ulster football. Some great points scored and better team won on the day . Tyrone had 3or 4 men who didn't turn up and same men never get the curly finger and last the full match. Sets it up for later in year if they meet.

Replying To kevin03:  "Ah now call a spade a spade. He constantly dives and is always the first one to mouth at the officials. He seems to think that he shouldn't be touched and anytime he is it should be a foul."
With all due respect Kevin he has to stand up for himself with some of the treatment he gets. Maybe sometimes he does go down a bit too early but maybe that is now a natural reaction to protect himself from some of the hits he has taken particularly to the head. You only realise how targeted Ryan is when you go to a game and see what happens to him off the ball usually a fair distance from where the ball is. Often seen him literally rugby tackled when starting to make a run some 30 metres plus from where the ball is.

Good run out for both teams. Ryan does come for his share of attention, no way was O Neills tackle a yellow. Being small in stature, always leading with head on the run he is subject to hits. Don't think he is a diver. Both teams could say that they were not at full strength, the old guard for Donegal showing the way.Is McCole a championship player? mcMenamin, Ban and McGrath if fully fit would rate ahead of him. Pray tell what is Bonner waiting for with regards to Gallen. 5 mins at end doesn't do anything for his confidence. Get him in the game. Tyrone's forward set up very strange as it proved on day to be wasteful. They have uncovered a gem in Donaghy, no Canavan until late, where is McShane, would have to be recovered from injury by now?Mickey Harte may not have been Tyrone's problem ! As for Bonner ,under pressure to deliver, especially with Kerry's demolition of Galway.

Pretty entertaining game even despite a fair amount of shadow boxing going on. I expect Tyrone's forward line to look alot differently in a few weeks time with similar sentiments regarding the Donegal backline. It will be interesting to see how the Tyrone management use McShane alongside McKenna and Canavan who I expect all to start come championship time. Don't need to say much about McQuillan bar he was very poor with some strange decisions. However I completely agree with Lockjaw in that the red card was one waiting to happen given he was on a card with a couple of ticks already accrued. Both keepers kickouts were excellent and could be the difference either side needs if they meet later in the year in what will be another small margins game. Special shout outs to Donaghy who looks a real find and Paddy McB who looked really sharp despite been often marked by more than one man. From a Donegal perspective good to see Neil in tip top shape and was impressed with O'Baoill when he came on. True to say last year never really happened for him especially after the league game in Kerry. Also fair to say that while doubts remain about Jamie Brennan's impact in some big pressure games he always seems to flourish against Tyrone. The only time we are going to learn if these Donegal lads have what it takes to get to an All Ireland semi final minimum which their talent deserves is when they are in that situation again and they pass the mental test. Until then I am sure the plaudits will be many but prove nothing.
