Think this fully sums up my own feelings on this game. Congrats to Kildare on their victory and promotion. I'd honestly say though there were no winners today. Two very poor teams who look like they are going nowhere, and Meath are getting there faster. I'd fully expect that Kildare will be the team coming back down next year in the same way that Roscommon are yoyo-ing every other year. Standard of football was atrocious, Kildare had marginally the better players and playing at home was worth the couple of scores that won it in the end. although why this game wasn't played at a neutral venue was baffling. I heard during the commentary that a Meath official was measuring the dimensions of the pitch beforehand, which if true is a very pathetic act. Dimensions are the same for both teams at the end of the day. On the incident at the end of the game, i missed what happened but Andy is known as a sore loser and loves to deflect from the teams short comings and this is another example of it. Conor McGill is not the kind of player to go after someone for no reason but he should also have known the consequences going after a player were a ban. This is one of several incidents in recent years where Meath managers have gone to the press after games about stuff like this (the Mickey Burke biting incident whilst he was fish hooking a dublin player, Andy whining about referees v Tyrone and Donegal after championship defeats). In my life what happened on the field stayed on the field and that was it no b****ing, moaning or complaining and Meath teams were respected for it down the years. But we've become a team of moaning whining cry babies and that's the most disappointing thing I've seen from Meath teams in recent years. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1982 - 14/06/2021 11:59:47 2350710 Link 12 |
Very few options I agree Dan, but what's more concerning is that the big complaining lad was allowed in to contest ball so many times... it reminded me of the 2014 drawn game with Kerry when Donaghy was let loose 1 v 1 on a knackered Cafferkey and no adjustment when the alarm bells started to ring. Clare won't be the last to try route 1 if there's no plan to counter it.

Exactly. I haven't seen any footage of the alleged incident. It's a really damaging allegation to make and the Kildare player deserves the presumption on innocence. If there was a deliberate spitting incident the perpetrator deservers a lengthy ban and the Kildare management should remove him from the panel. Did Mcentee himself see the incident or did he hear abut about? Did he comment on the knee into the back of Kevin Flynns head? daytona11 (Kildare) - Posts: 4012 - 14/06/2021 13:09:14 2350750 Link 6 |
Fair enough, but I don't think an inter county manager would come out with that if it wasn't true. Its too serious an allegation.

The payer in question is entitled to due process. Andy Mc has form for being deflective and looking to pass the boo when Meath are bet. Do we know if he saw the alleged incident or is it here say? daytona11 (Kildare) - Posts: 4012 - 14/06/2021 13:30:43 2350766 Link 4 |
Meath lose a game and guess what Andy McCantee is surrounded by reporters looking for a sore loser response. Kildare lads started it, Boohoo. jonno (Kildare) - Posts: 261 - 14/06/2021 13:34:13 2350767 Link 6 |
I'm not sure if he saw it to be honest. But if there is a spitting incident this has to be investigated thoroughly by the association regardless of what player/county is involved. Its irrelevant what was said before or what happened after , but this is a huge incident on its own. It has no place whatsoever in GAA. This needs to be gotten to the bottom of ,pronto. I agree. And if the allegations are found to be baseless Mcentee should also be punished.

daytona, you seem very defensive about Kildare and going on the attack at Andy, you're saying the player in question (who i don't think was named by Andy) needs to be given due process yet asking if Andy saw it, if it's hearsay on his part, demanding response about an incident with kevin flynn (which he may not have been asked about, hence no comment on it), calling him a sore loser and calling for Andy to be banned if events are not true. Maybe heed your own words and allow due process to take place. I like many of your fellow Kildare posters are saying if true then its should be dealt with accordingly so maybe leave it at that. If proven to be baseless then I would agree with you that Andy should be punished. But allow due process brian (Meath) - Posts: 1982 - 14/06/2021 14:43:47 2350810 Link 6 |
I wouldn't agree with that, yesterday's game was a huge game for both teams if they hoped to improve next year. Unlikely Kildare will win Leinster this year but getting into division 1 at least gives your players a chance to get used to playing at a higher level next year, it could raise the standard of the players. It really gives your manager a chance to build something as,as was said on the Meath page you learn nothing playing in division 2.

To be honest even if true I don't see the point of Andy McEntee bringing up the alleged spitting incident, better off just to move on. bdbuddah (Meath) - Posts: 1413 - 14/06/2021 14:55:14 2350818 Link 2 |
Its disappointing and not befitting of a Meath manager. Leave it on the field. They had enough swings at him anyway and still no damage was done to the spitter. Meath teams used to sort that kind of thing on the pitch and say nothing after. The current Dublin lads would've sorted it out on the pitch.

Alleged spitter. If there was a spit then Mcentee is correct to highlight it but I with Mcentee it just seems like his usual deflecting. daytona11 (Kildare) - Posts: 4012 - 14/06/2021 15:58:21 2350842 Link 2 |
Truth be told it was to wind up our royal corespondent, not that many posts back he was talking about being back in Div 1 with the big boy's. Craics mighty.

I wouldn't regard Meath as being any worse about moaning than any other county. In comparison to the Boylan years, yes maybe, but you have to remember the culture of those teams was exceptional. I think there is better football than that in both counties, but at this stage both Meath and Kildare look completely demoralized after years of being humiliated. A lot of that frustration was evident yesterday from both. There didn't seem to be that fear of not being available for the championship from either team. Agree MayoDan. Don't forget that in 16 and 17 all ireland finals Mayo were the better team but were very unlucky. A few important referee decisions went against Mayo and also the Donie Vaughan John Small incident cost Mayo too niotD to nention own goals. So yes Mayo game plan is way to go and Mayo were the team that spooked Jim Gavin the most.
