Do you believe football teams should have a second chance to stay in the championship? Tarismelting22 (Roscommon) - Posts: 760 - 09/04/2021 08:54:49 2336519 Link 0 |
I'd imagine there would be some soul searching from some players this morning, however the chances of playing in the US etc are gone so after months of no action at all most players will be eager for some game time.. Very tough on the weaker counties alright.. Belclare (Galway) - Posts: 904 - 09/04/2021 09:47:36 2336525 Link 0 |
I think it will, certainly the likes of Leitrim and Roscommon players could use that outlet.

There was no back door in football either last year. We'll know shortly whether or not it will have an adverse effect on the weaker counties.

as usual the decision makers in croke park are getting it a*seways..........clubs should have been looked after first in terms of games...........but no Croke Park it is only interest in the Elite and the vast majority of players can eat cake as far they are concerned totalrecall (Leitrim) - Posts: 916 - 09/04/2021 10:58:32 2336547 Link 0 |
I often wonder why is it always people from the weaker counties that start these threads- I suppose it is everyone looking after their own. But to answer your question I think there should be a back door definitely. If yet get one of the big two in the first round your season would be over in no time, unless ye could pull off a major shock or they had off day or something. Same with us- if we get Donegal, Tyrone etc away we are in the exact same boat, one which is taking on water at a colossal rate.

You can throw the 10 Leinster counties that aren't Dublin into the frame as well. Hardly a point showing up! Sweetspot (Kildare) - Posts: 323 - 09/04/2021 11:12:39 2336554 Link 1 |
there are 12 counties in Leinster- 10 and Dublin?? Which one are you leaving out??

Is there any point in us poor souls in Leinster showing up at all? If they're doing a straight knockout championship it should be an open draw imo Meath10 (Meath) - Posts: 183 - 09/04/2021 11:34:07 2336563 Link 1 |
NO! Last year brought it back to what championship means: knock-out. Anyway, Roscommon have been given every chance since 1944!

Given the numbers involved there is no way the government would give the go ahead for club activities at the moment . All club sport is on hold not just football and hurling. It is the government who are preventing club football and hurling from going ahead not The GAA. The GAA are dead right to press ahead with inter county football and hurling. To refuse to do so when given the chance would make no sense. Club will restart when the government allows it. That is the same for all sports.

Don't see the relevance of your last line but that is to everyone else who made a proper response.

This I agree with.

For this rushed, soon to be forgotten championship, open draw would have ensured more interest on a wider level, poor move. realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8592 - 10/04/2021 00:03:23 2336675 Link 9 |
Sarcasm/humor! Every other county has also been given the very same chance as the primrose and blue, since 1944!

No Leave it it's done now. The only reason Hurling get a back door is so few counties play it to a high standard. There simply is not enough time to play a football back door. And so what? We will survive. The fact there are no crowds at games makes it soulless anyway. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11231 - 10/04/2021 08:31:15 2336695 Link 4 |
It would have created great interest. For the 10 counties outside Dublin in Leinster this will be over after one or two games. Nothing to aim for not even the super 8s. A open draw could have put up numerous great outcomes. A Wicklow or Carlow against a Sligo or Leitrim. I would have loved a cut at Tyrone in navan , Kildare v Roscommon. It would have added the spark , but no we don't have it. Can you imagine the interest in Dublin drawing mayo in castlebar or Kerry in Killarney? In round one or two ?? It would be fantastic. Once off for one year. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 10/04/2021 12:31:16 2336714 Link 2 |
There was no reason why they could nt have had an open draw and it would bring extra excitement. Bar a few moment last years football was a snorefest
