Another Straight Knock-Out Championship In 2021?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

With everything being held up and a good chance of this mess being far from over yet, will we see another straight KO Championship?

There may be no other option available but at least last year's efforts brought some much needed excitement with some interesting results along the way.

I'd say it's very much up in the air still. I could see no league and a back door championship.

It may come down to that jimbodub. Yesterday's figures were disappointing, NPHET are quick to shoot down talks of a lockdown easing. If GAA activity is deferred further, knockout may be the only option.

I would think the GAA will play by hook or by crook. I really hope they do play it. It will be very exciting this year- the football could be won by any team really- it is wide open as is the hurling. Great to have such a level playing field in both codes. I like this yes. credit for this must go to ex president Dr Horan.

True there were some exciting games and finishes in particular. If they do go ahead with straight KO they should have an open draw. That would be exciting.

Yeah I really liked last year's championship. I'd be happy with the same again.

Maybe a straight all Ireland football final with Dublin versus a rest of the country 15. At least there might be a hope of them being beaten. And play it in Thurles

Kerry , Tyrone , Mayo , Donegal Galway and Cork all capable of beating Dublin , no problem playing in Thurles , or anywhere for that matter -:)

It is typical of a county like Westmeath to say no GAA at all. Westmeath would probably like that, as they are not good.

Dublin have not dominated the National league. I think the GAA should play that, and they might have to forego an all Ireland this year unfortunately. But they should definitely finish the league. And judge mid Summer if it is ok to try to play a knock out All Ireland. But first priority get the National league back up and running.

Can't see any other option the way things are going. Last year worked out well.

why are you so focused on the league ahead of the main competition?

You're wrong, the opposite has actually been proved over the last 6 years with all those 6 teams failing to beat the dubs in the championship.

Think the Dublin lads would relish such an opportunity

On what actual evidence would that statement be based on ? ....most of those teams capable of beating Dublin ?... can't be based on results in Football matches over the last 10 years ?.... much an all as I'd love Galway to beat Dublin !

Priority has to be club football. Can't see where club will fit in if you play inter county league in summer and then inter champ.
