To be fair it's as clear as day. The ironically named TheUsername being onr of the prime suspects of it.

This is always suggested as being the answer. But why do people think it would make a difference? oneoff (UK) - Posts: 1380 - 27/01/2021 14:20:35 2329163 Link 1 |

You'd want to be seriously bored and sad if you were to bother with duplicate accounts...

I'm all for change. This is clearly a change that doesn't fix anything though. It's not just the numbers being off that causes problems, it's that there's serious difference in the quality between and within provinces.

If "it's as clear as day", what are TheUsername's other account names?

I found it hard to believe too, but posters on here brought my attention to it, and looking around me it doesn't take a brain surgeon to spot them, that's all I can say. Makes you wonder about the mentality of these people.

at very least it is something different.doing it regionally is pointless, why not have an open draw? i can imagine wexford welcoming kerry to wexford park generating a bit of excitement, rather than a season opener v carlow and then kildare and the winners play dublin in the final. of course it wont fix the competitive side of things, but sometimes something different can have unintended consequences. perfect10 (Wexford) - Posts: 3929 - 29/01/2021 12:09:12 2329516 Link 0 |
Theyre not going to be qualifying for all ireland finals regardless of the structure but teams need more games in the main competition of the year or at least deserve a better season structure. My view is to leave the Provincials alone but take them out of the AI series. Then for Championship have 8 groups of 4 with one team from each League division is each Group. All Division 4 teams get 3 home games, Div 3 teams two home games, Div 2 team 1 home game and Div 1 play all away. Play 3 weekends in a row so there is no advantages for any county. League position becomes much more important. Ok there will be lots of heavy defeats (but no worse than now) but each team will have at least one game they can target to win. Top 2 go into last 16 played on knockout basis - week break between each knockout game. Bottom 2 drop into secondary cup which will be played alongside AI - same weekends. Eleven weeks from first group game to AI & Secondary final. Every county gets at least 4 Championship intensity games every year thus improving across the board. No excuses for any county. opa01 (Cavan) - Posts: 503 - 29/01/2021 13:04:27 2329530 Link 0 |
The breakdown of home games based on league positioning is a good suggestion, but how exactly is that format going to improve standards & get more teams competing at the top end? If that format was in place for 2021, of the 8 groups, only the one with Mayo would offer a heavyweights clash in the group stage. It suits division 1 teams who can taper up for the latter stages of the championship. A 2nd Tier championship won't have the same value if it doesn't offer a promotion of sorts to play in the 1st tier. Also if a big team were to suffer a shock & fall into the 2nd tier on a given year, you could find players withdrawing, given it wouldn't effect their status for the following year. This is a common format suggested. I guess my big problem with is: What's the point of the second tier competition?

I would say no one knows for certain only administration but many on here are convinced there are duplicate accounts. Most of the views seem to come from a constant sniping between a few Kerry and Dublin posters. I notice then if a poster agrees with either side they are accused of being a duplicate account. There s a childish attitude with some saying stuff like other counties agree with me. I've been reading hoganstand for years (although I only joined last year) and I often was of the opinion some are using false accounts. It's sad if they feel the need to do that. The people that are being accused are probably the innocent ones as from my experience in life its the people one least suspects are the culprits most of the time. The posters that have the balls to speak their minds (whether we agree with their points or not) more than likely have only one account. Again of course that's just my opinion

For me I would have a round Robin style in ulster counaght munster everyone played each other once top 2 play the final and represent the province leinster 2 groups who all play each other once winner of each group plays the final. ulsterrules (Donegal) - Posts: 259 - 30/01/2021 11:19:11 2329670 Link 0 |

Yeah there definitely needs to be change. I just wouldn't get the point of removing the traditional provincials only to replace them with something that has many of the same problems.

A lot of teams will be out of the running after 2 or 3 games though. Games for games sake aren't really going to bring teams on.

Far too many in GAA dismiss changing all ireland competitions to group based competitions because of a fear of a tiny number of games possibly being dead rubbers. It would only be a tiny number of games. So what. if you play more and play more against better sides and sides of your own level you will improve. munstermaniac71 (Galway) - Posts: 15 - 30/01/2021 14:59:46 2329712 Link 0 |
