James was a class player , so unlucky with injuries , best of luck to him .

Replying To CiarraiMick:  "James O Donoghue has just confirmed his retirement from inter County football at 31 years old. Another player plagued by injury that kept knocking him back. Last game I saw him play live was against Dublin in league 2020 in croker and he was flying kicking 3 points from play in the 1st half but then had to retire injured as usual. So unlucky with injuries but cest lá vie. A top forward on his day. Best of luck to James in his retirement."
Footballer of the year in 2014, they don';t give them out to just anyone.

Almost unstoppable on any given day, but has barely been fully fit since then. Unfortunately don't think we ever saw the best of James.

Jim Donoghue. One of the greats. Had a great in 2014 but shoulder was never the same after 2015.

James O'Donaghue was devastating during 2013/2014.

A real pity that he seemed to have much luck with injuries.

Still plenty of players play for a lot longer, fully fit, than James did and make nowhere near the impact he did on those 2 summers.

what a pity injury hampered his career, natural skill, speed, acurracy, and everything else too..us neutrals sometimes just dont like bigger and sucessful counties but there is always a few players on those counties teams whom you just cannot dislike, James was one of them, a class act, wishing him all the best from all in Offaly.

Ya he was flying in 2015 as well until he dislocated his shoulder in the quarterfinal against Kildare, the poor fella just couldn't keep his shoulders in their sockets.

The thing is he was still very young and he could have improved even more but just couldn't get a run of games without something happening hamstringings and shoulders.

He might only have 1 allireland medal but he'll always be remembered down here for 2014 and those epics against Mayo, 2 of the best games of manic crazy off the cuff football I've ever seen.
