Remember they will have to play the dublin behemoth in dublins home ground and neither Galway or Tyrone have senior allireland winners on their teamYa we did win 37 allirelands Mick but 36 of them were before the dublin money kicked in, and before dublin were moved permanently in to crokepark for league as well as the championship.

I'm telling you dublin are in the wrong competition and they need to be regraded into a new version of the railway Cup and intercounty football to proper county teams.But it's not just Kerrys problem it's every1 outside of dublins problem.

If you can't see that dublin starting to play all their home league games in Croke Park in 08/09 as a benefit to the dublin footballers then your blind or you don't want to see the problem that caused for every other team jox
Mick kinda covered a lot of what I was going to say in his post jox but you can't really thinks that Croke Park isn't yer home ground when there is a pile of evidence to state otherwise.

There was a stat at the end of the championship that cluxtin has played 112 championship games for dublin and 101 of them were played at home .

Also playing 2 dead rubber games against Tyrone in Omagh doesn't really count as Tyrone were looking to keep their team fresh for the semifinals the following week.

Croke Park is a massive advantage to dublin as a county/province both financially ( nó travel or hotels or up keep of own stadium) and in football terms.
It's easy to get big numbers to travel to 3 or 4 away games a year Dubhlinn, in 2019 we played 7 out of our 8 championship games on the road.

In 2017 Mayo played 9 out of their 10 games on the road.

I think Tyrone played 8 or 9 games on the road in 08.

And that's not taking into account 3, 4 or 5 away league games as well.

Look at the expense that has on supporters and country teams

Wouldn't mind a proper away game against Kerry in Killarney, they have a "proud" unbeaten record there, so always bring us out to Tralee. ;)

Remember we were battering them out there in 2015 and a real home town ref turned it around giving ridiculous frees - to keep the record in tact - one of the most ridiculous things I've seen at a live game- they haven't looked to have against there since.

We've done a job on them in their head space and no mistake.

Happy new year to you Username. Never let the facts get in the way of the truth. Arguments about ref decisions is a matter of opinion but neutrals would be better at deciding at which county got the rub of green from refs more. On Killarney its our championship record we are proud of. Last team to beat us in Killarney was Cork in 1995 in championship. Kerry have been beaten in Killarney recently in the league for é. g. Monaghan in 2017 and Dublin also before that. Its our championship record we try and preserve. Its 26 years. It will go sometime soon. All records are there to be broken.

Fair dues, i just would like a crack of yee in Kilarney on a Sunday afternoon - maybe i should be careful what i wish for. Would love a championship game down in Kilarney as well, S8s would be sublime or maybe this years Semi (all going well). Kerry and Dublin as counties of success, tradition and history should always seek out tough competition and relish it, Its the bar our counties need to set. We should aspire to relsih taking Kerry on in Kilarney, we should want it, even if we arent the force we were. Equally, i think Kerry should relish trying to take Dublin in Croker in front of a full Hill - i remember they used to. Though i wish we had more game outside of Croker myself.

So you don't remember dublin beating us in killarney in the league in 2010? The day Michael mccauly played his first game against us?

Ah well it was pre 2011 and sure you weren't following dublin back then were you!

Ah sure the sentiment would be lovely but unless they change the format the chances of Dublin playing championship in Killarney are slim. Super 8s are gone. I think we will start to see Dublin play more games outside of Croker from now on though. Thanks for the good wishes User and same to you and yours in return.

Nice one Mick!

Big fan of the S8s myself, while not the format I'd choose overall i think it makes the whole thing fairer and competitive, especially with us on the slide, more games no harm either.

Speaking of stepping away I see young Patrick Spillane heavily tipped for a run with Sligo. Had a good year in the Dublin championship, but a half forward all day for me and be a tough gig getting a Kerry jersey in that line.

Yeah Spillane s Mom from Sligo. It will be interesting to see how it works out for him. The traveling will be tough. Things did nt go too well for Nathan Mullins with Donegal but Donegal are a top team of course. Spillane seems to have improved alot and looked great in Dublin semi final but not as strong v Kilmacud. You might be right in that half forward might be his best position. I have no problem with players getting chances with other counties and hopefully the counties improve as a result. Shane Horan from Kilmacud with Offaly too. On the championship the more games the better.

Fair play KB. Mickey has been blighted by injuries since before he even got to senior football. A great talent who we probably never got to see in full flight. Very similar to Shane O'Rourke as he was hugely lauded at underage and marked as future star, but growing pains and persistent hip issues for both players meant we never got to see either of them in full flight in the green and gold.

Remember seeing Mickey at minor playing Tyrone in an Ulster minor league final and bring doublr marked and the Tyrone manager screaming to his defenders to get tight to him. Mickey got a sickening knock that day which was totally accidental and when he departed Meath fell apart.

Hopefully Mickey gets to enjoy more time with the red and black of Kilmainham (my own club) and enjoys his time playing football.

Happy new year Brian, I didn't get to see a whole lot of Newman unfortunately but any time I did I was always impressed, he always stood out and was 1 of those players who made playing football look effortless.

I hope he'll get lots of years playing for yer club now.

Yeah a very languid style of play and never looked like he was needing to try. He'll be soreky missed in the green and gold but delighted he'll get to continue in the red and black.

He'd kinda remind you of a Maurice Fitz type of a player, glided over the ground, minimal motion in his kicks etc. Not that I'm comparing them in any way, more their styles.

Ya languid is the word Brian , very like Fitz in that way, anyway enjoy him while ye can, he's definitely a big loss to Meath and the intercounty game.

I read yesterday that quite a few Tipp footballers have stepped away from their county for this year, that'll be a big loss to David Power and his backroom team as they try to claw there way out of div 4.

James O Donoghue has just confirmed his retirement from inter County football at 31 years old. Another player plagued by injury that kept knocking him back. Last game I saw him play live was against Dublin in league 2020 in croker and he was flying kicking 3 points from play in the 1st half but then had to retire injured as usual. So unlucky with injuries but cest lá vie. A top forward on his day. Best of luck to James in his retirement.
