Nothing much wrong with the rules if the teams are evenly matched. That said, advance mark has to go in its current form. Any rule specifically designed solely to outlaw the current Dublin style of play is nonsense. Eddie the Exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 1064 - 09/12/2020 22:24:21 2320895 Link 0 |
I would disagree We need more kicking and man on man play and less running 13 a side - 3 subs - 80 min games (4x20 min) 45 yard arch with two points for a score outside it End of blanket defending as the opposition will beat you with long range points and you'll be too tired to attack on the break tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1126 - 13/12/2020 04:20:07 2321760 Link 0 |
It'd make for a rubbish game. There'd just be so many blowouts. There's almost nothing worse than seeing teams just reducing the opposition to shooting practice. There's nothing wrong with having to work for scores or for a team to have to work their way up the pitch. The pitch is too big for 15 a side, it'd be way too big for 13 a side. I'd abolish the advanced mark, makes it too much like Aussie Rules and often removes the chance of a goal. The mark from the kickout can stay as we should be protecting high fielding, which is one of the great skills of gaelic football. Gleebo (Mayo) - Posts: 2208 - 13/12/2020 15:05:12 2321898 Link 0 |
Agree on advanced mark in attack removal, it slows the game down in attack. The sin bin is a better rule than the prior one of straight player replacement. However with current defensive setups I haven't seen it have a material affect, maybe awarding a straight penalty and sin bin would deter teams. Many black cards are issued for stopping a player with a strong likelihood of scoring a goal, rugby awards a penalty try in these cases. Dunno about the shot clock though it kinda gives the defense power to just stop the shot for x seconds and doesn't fix what is the biggest problem with shooting in football today, the risk/reward for a single point from distance is not wort it. You give up possession and may walk away empty handed, whereas keeping possession and shooting or punching from 10-15 yards out or playing for a free gives a higher rate of success. There needs to be incentive to shoot from distance, this would force blanket defenses to protect larger scoring areas and would reward the skill of long distance shots.
