Monaghan And Cavan Amalgamation

Replying To Victorious87:  "The solution for the Dublin question for me is simple. I would like to see Dublin's underage teams officially split into North and South Dublin (they already do this at under 14 level) and both teams ply in Leinster competitions al the way to under 20s. Dublin have two panels all the way up to minor level anyway, this makes things official. If the seniors have go on to dominate the next decade like this then you have the next crop of players who have played for North/South Dublin the whole time and it is a smoother transition. This benefits Dublin underage and also levels the playing field in Leinster and All Ireland underage competitions. I can't see many negatives to it?"
Supporters would still be expected to change overnight. Sponsors too.

i dont agree that football is of a higher standard the players are away fitter and more athletic but are not as naturally gifted players as those who made county teams in the past. The big difference is how they use the ball ie tactics and analysis done by the teams of staticians and backroom teams. killian o Connor raised the red warning flag to Dublin on Sunday. They will probably have two or three professional tacticians analysing his performance and coming up with 3 to 4 differant scenarios on how to nullify him in the final and i will be very supprised if he scores more than 2 to 3 point form play in the final. This is where the real difference lies. I dont think that Cavan were that much behind Dublin fitness wise on Sathurday Dublin had better footballer players but the big difference is in the head the detailed instructions and analysis that each dublin footballer has going out on the field and the confidence that this gives them that they will win makes them look fitter they are like robots programmed to win but also great footballlers.

Footballers have been replaced by athletes. I think the Gooch himself once said if he was starting out today its unlikely he'd be get a call up to Inter County due to his slight build."
I disagree I think they're still footballers who just happen to be more athletic. It's what the game demands.

Another deflection - avoiding the real issue. Probably the only realistic option is an elite tier (probably a number Dublin teams playing with themselves & maybe some others who wish to join them in the elite side of things) & then all others. The all others would be a great old championship imo.
But Cavan & Monaghan, no. We would end up having to pay for everything:-)

Yes but at this point it's a bit easier to swallow, there would still be interest in the underage setups for both sides of the counties for members and local businesses. Not many minor teams across the country have the support and backing the Dublin sides do at the moment anyway

Replying To Cavan_Shambles:  "No it isn't.

Dublin has no community spirit by virtue of the fact that it's a city. Many people in Dublin have never met nor spoken to their next door neighbours. There is also a massive cultural divide between north and south, that is further reflected in education with a public/private school divide.

There are several good reasons to split Dublin, the main one being the lack of a unified Dublin identity."
You keep repeating this as fact but it's just your own personal observation. there's plenty of community spirit in Dublin you probably just didn't buy into it at the time. North and South Dubs identify with each other as much as people from Kingscourt do with people from Blacklion

This is just deflective nonsense dressed up as serious conversation to take the spotlight away from the Dublin situation. Sadly we are going to get more of this guff from Dublin pundits, the media and I would guess elements within Croke Park. They will under no circumstances address the root cause of the problem. The Leinster Championship, particularly the final and the Dublin/Cavan game were mind numbingly boring turn offs and do nothing for football. We are going to get an avalanche of this "You should all try harder, aren't the Dubs to be admired, one day you could be like them......why don't you wee counties think of amalgamating to challenge them". It is insulting horse ***** of the highest order.

And of course the Mayo/Tipp game was a very close affair. Mayo had 4-12 on the clock by half-time. How does this equate with the "Dublin problem". Tipp came through a Munster championship containing a Kerry team that should have beaten Dublin in a AI final drawn game last year.

You used to defend Ulster "puke football", as Spillane called it back in the day, by saying "if you want entertainment then go to the circus". Well get yourself some tickets for Fossetts lad. :)

Have to agree with this. Plenty of community spirit in lots of areas in Dublin. Also this notion that there are no rural areas in Dublin is completely false too. North Dublin is a big farming area, Man O War, the Naul, Garristown etc

If you amalgamated Carlow and Cavan you have a Caravan. OK, I'll get my jacket.

I tell you what, give me those days of close competitive, tough entertaining games over the stale, repetitive, robotic stuff we have now. Dublin are a well conditioned machine, their strength lies in physical fitness and athleticism rather than outright talent and skill. That's not to say they don't have good players, they have but the snorefest isn't far away after a while watching them.

Mayo Tipp was boring as well. Almost like the provincials aren't a good way to determine the best teams in the country.

Ah come on UM. You're saying this Dublin team has no skill? There are none so blind.... If you ever played the game you'd know that the ability to pass and shoot with both feet and hand pass with either hand was a rare thing back in the day. Most Dublin players seem to have these skills. Not many keepers can put a ball on a six-pence over 55 yards either, yet Cluxton manages it time and time again. If these aren't top skills then I'd be a Kerryman.

Now t use your terminology, this is horse***t of the highest order. Brain Fenton is arguably the greatest midfielder of all time. Kicks of both feet beautifully, has balance and pace his size notwithstanding, the technical prowess of Con is acknowledged by all, others have spoken about Cluxton's abilities. This manure about Dublin being an athletic team , a robotic machine is insulting tripe.

Dublin are skillful but extremely negative. Backpasses to the goalie from half way and them beating Cavan out the gate. That's not football.

Mayo dismantling tipp was an outlier, they beat Galway by 1 and Roscommon by 6, Dublin routinely beat teams by excess of 10-12 for the last number of seasons baring Finals and an odd semi final against Mayo and Kerry.

Yes Fenton is along with Jack O'Shea the best or 2nd best midfielder to ever play the game and seems like a great fella away from the field, but Dublin's style is very programmed, that doesn't mean Fenton, Kilkenny, Con, Cluxton etc. are not special players cause they all very much are, look how Dublin are routinely dismantling teams without Flynn, Connolly, McCaffrey, the Brogans, Mannion on the bench and no Jim Gavin, they were all heralded as generational players too
