I won't mention the Cavan lads you've left out as I'll be accused of blinkers. But Quinliven ahead of Sweeney??? Not a chance. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5017 - 09/12/2020 09:44:20 2320554 Link 9 |
Thats a joke team there. Surely at least 4 Cavan lads on this team and thats coming from a Monaghan man!

I must be the only one that doesn't see it with Oisin Mullen?? I think he's been very overrated this year. Justlooking123 (UK) - Posts: 13 - 09/12/2020 09:52:03 2320558 Link 0 |
We won't get 4. I'd suspect the 2 galligans. Faulker deserves one but a big final could get some mayo or dublin men in ahead of him. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5017 - 09/12/2020 10:11:04 2320563 Link 9 |
Cavan will get 1 all star, Raymond Galligan and that will be it. They were shown up for what they were under the lights on Saturday night, a team in the 7-16 range of teams in Ireland that beat a Donegal team with its eye off the ball in the Ulster final. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1954 - 09/12/2020 10:26:47 2320572 Link 11 |
You must be joking with Keegan on it. He got roasted on Sunday. Cluxton has only made two saves whole championship. My team would be. Galligan Fitziimons Faulkner Mullen McDaid Small McLoughlin McCarthy Fenton Con Kilkenny Galligan Rock Sweeney O'Connor winatallcost (Meath) - Posts: 511 - 09/12/2020 10:54:36 2320576 Link 0 |
I've a feeling Thomas galligan will get 1. There were 25 of this year's 28 games played in November and he got player of the month. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5017 - 09/12/2020 11:04:41 2320578 Link 9 |
Doesn't matter, he was anonymous in Croke park and sent off. Look at Stephen O'Brien (i think) from Kerry last year. Player of the year up to the final no all star. Its all about doing it in Croke Park, when it matters. If you don't you're out. 2009 Tadhg Kennealy barely impressed in Munster and still won an all star off his semi final and final appearances. Galligan did well but its a romantic blood and guts story. He's not getting one at midfield over fenton and he's not good enough in the forwards to get one. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1954 - 09/12/2020 12:20:28 2320612 Link 10 |
He'd be the 2nd midfielder, no? I think a selection panel will be knowledgeable enough to know he was dragged out of for 70mins, denied a stonewall penalty, and harshly sent off for questioning an incorrect refereeing decision. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5017 - 09/12/2020 13:20:52 2320637 Link 9 |
Agreed on Keegan. I'd be very surprised if he got one, unless he has a stormer in the final. He was very ropey against Tipp, got caught out by a number of high balls and also had to commit a few fouls after lads had gotten away from him. He also struggled at times against Galway. Ruane was man of the match in the Connacht final, Had good games against Roscommon and Tipp. Should he have a good game in the All Ireland final he will be a shoe in beside Fenton

I agree that Keegan is unlikely to get an Allstar but the idea of him getting roasted at the weekend is a little harsh. Maybe it's the high standards Leroy has set but keeping a player of the calibre of Michael Quinlivan scoreless over sixty minutes hardly qualifies as being roasted. True he coughed up a goal chance and gave away the free that led to the black card, so he must be slipping. But roasted!

I hope Galligan gets one. Hard to look good against the Dubs but he was a revelation in the Ulster Championship and Donegal are no slouches.

A good shout. Thought he struggled arially against Tipp but a good final could well get him one. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5017 - 09/12/2020 14:05:58 2320660 Link 9 |
I am just trying to give an alternative, I really do hope Galligan gets one and eh does deserve it IMO its just they seem to be picked off All Ireland final day more often than not.

I don't agree with how the All Stars are selected...its just sujective and not based on any actual criteria. Why not mark players out of ten on each game they play league and champiuoship.I know that would be a bit skewed depending on the quality of the opposition but anythng would be better than the present system. Yeah very true. I don't give him a chance in the forwards. Think Rock, Con, Cillian, KK, Sweeney are all nailed on and the 6th will come from Conroy, AOS, Scully or Kev McL. Fenton nailed on. So the 2nd MF spot is the one I think he will get. But Ruane and McCarthy both will go close. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5017 - 09/12/2020 14:43:13 2320674 Link 9 |
Quinlivan beat him for every ball in the air and on the ground. If Tipp were closer I'm sure he would have tapped over a few easy points. Instead goals were on his mind so don't think he contributed in any way to keeping him scoreless. He was also black carded for pulling Quinlivan down for what would have been a certain goal. Also fouled for other frees. By the time he came back in, he was seen laying flat out on the ground after being sold a dummy by Sweeney before Sweeney goaled. Barrett and Keegan really struggled I thought.

Not a hope, I'm sorry but he was in and out of the team, didn't start every game and was anonymous on Saturday. That does not win you an all star. If you took off your blue tinted glasses and looked coldly at it, he was the romantic figure of the championship but he really didn't contribute as much as his cousin Raymond, McKiernan who i don't overly rate, Martin Reilly who stood up when it counted on Saturday evening, Oisin Kiernan or Padraig Faulkner. Better players find ways to deal with what Galligan was subjected too. Clifford and Donaghy found ways to do it. All stars find ways to rise above it and perform in every game. Galligan didn't. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1954 - 09/12/2020 16:36:26 2320744 Link 9 |
He threw the toys out of the pram. I'd worry for Cavan on the All-Star front. if Cluxton keeps another clean sheet in the final can they really overlook a goalie who hasn't conceded a goal? Hard to see it. daytona11 (Kildare) - Posts: 4012 - 09/12/2020 16:54:34 2320754 Link 0 |
