Munster Football Final - Tipp V Cork

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Very difficult for Tipp. They have a good team, no issues with the talent at their disposal; big q is whether today was their All Ireland and whether they have the ambition to push on. Most teams in their position (first provincial win in nearly a century) would just get walloped next time out. Mayo desperately want a crack at winning it outright, nothing less will do for Mayo. I don't believe Tipp will want it as much, and I would be surprised if Tipp can match Mayo's hunger on this occasion.

Only 1 shock in Munster this year alright.
Cork played in Division 3 all year and it showed, not matter how many times others try to dress it up.

Well done Tipp - and as you say Jimbo, fitting that both Tipp and Dublin won silverware on the weekend that was in it..
Congrats again Tipp - fair play to ye. 85years is some wait. Enjoy."
So today not a shock for you Fionn. On the news they talking of two big shocks. For someone that's so worried about divisions just celebrate now cos Dublin have nt or won't face any team this year that will be playing div one football next year. You have used the word tetchy before but it seems to me it is you that's a bit tetchy. Instead of giving teams credit you throw in snide remarks and finish it off with a congrats( that seems half hearted). Now I don't know you Fionn but from reading alot of your posts it's all about Dublin for you and how good the players are and how lovely they are etc. Now I have said before they are a very grounded bunch but you never credit other teams players. What about Tomás Ó Sé s great sportsmanship in 11 giving the ball to Cluxton after a heartbreaking defeat. What did Cluxton do only kick the ball into the stand. If that was the other way around you would say how unsporting. Many did after and who stood up for cluxton only ó sé. Imo you view alot with Rose tinted glasses. Dublin are bid winners again today with Donegal gone but instead of being happy you still pass sneaky remarks bout Cork kerry etc. I have seen Dublin win and lose more than you Fionn live I would guess and I always found the majority of dub fans fair and gracious winners and losers but I'm thinking that you are not one of them. Today is about Cavan and Tipperary and a hearty congrats to the both. Both Cork and Donegal will be rightly disappointed but 2021 is just around the corner.

Oh you seriously need to chill buddy.

I am extremely happy with my lot.
Far from tetchy. No time for Kerry but since they were humbled I am over the moon no matter what else happens this year.

Today was a division 3 team v a div 3 team.
No major shock. Wasn't expected but there you go.

Shock was Cavan beating Donegal in my opinion.

I am truly happy for both Tipp and Cavan today.

As for 2011 and the match ball. You haven't a clue once again. Read up on it and what O'Se and Clucko spoke about after it.

Oh and as for me not being a gracious in defeat - well that really shows how very little you know about me.

So please stop with the personal attacks.

You need to relax and just get over not winning again this year.

I haven't stopped smiling since and will continue to do so no matter how this season ends up.
Same clearly can't be said for you.

Oh Fionn, you need to relax
Today is not about Dublin and Kerry
It's about Tipp and Cavan
It's a historical and monentous day, one for the history books,
Watching the interviews after the games brought a tear to my eye and reminded me why i love these games
It was great that Mickey Harte was part of it on BBC
Congrats to the great Tipp footballers and the great Ulster champions of Cavan
1920/2020 such a wonderful symmetry

Fionn this is a thread about cork v tipp and you have consistently and persistently spent it spewing crap about Kerry and Dublin.

Your words say more about you than me. As for 2011 you say I have nt a clue? I did read what was said and I know exactly what went on. If you read my post properly I said Ó Sé backed up cluxton. I'm saying if the shoe was on the other foot it might be different. You get more pleasure from another county s loss than you do from your own winning. Very sad indeed.

Fair play to Tipp really did mighty today congratulations to them. However, I think they really got away with lots of stuff both on and off the ball. I hope David Gough gets the semi he is sharp a spotting these things. I don't think they will be able to bully us as easy as Cork and I expect our experience of Croker to just about get us over the line.

If Tipperary has not won the provincial title today, they being a division 3 team, would not have been allowed to compete for Sam next year! Time to get rid of this nonsensical innovation. Also, get rid of the Backdoor system, and give the underdogs a chance!

It was gaa president John horan that pushed that rule through at Congress.

He called it his legacy.

Missed this today. But I'll watch on the Sunday Game later. Massive congrats to Tipp, first Munster Title in 82 years. That must be amazing for the players and County footballing fraternity, especially the year that's in it.

I'm sure everyone has mentioned it but the same semi line up this years as 100 years ago, wow.

Well Rockies they would I think. As far as I know once you get to a provincial final you ré safe enough to compete. As for the backdoor I don't know. It definitely does nt help the underdogs but makes it harder too for the big teams as the other big contenders get back in. I agree the championship needs a different format. Anyway rockies commiserations today but Cork will return in both codes. A great sporting county.

On a footnote Rockies. The one thing I will say on the provincial championships is that the joy I saw today in both Tipp and Cavan panels would really lift your heart.

Fully agree - you cant just not allow counties compete for Sam due to their league status.
And I also would get rid of both the Backdoor and Super 8's.
And split the season between Club and County also.

Anyway,
Well done Tipp - Munster Champions 2020 - fair play and very poignant this weekend.

Hope they do themselves justice in the Semi Final now.

Getting rid of the backdoor system wouldnt give underdogs any chance. It didnt for 100 plus years so why would it now?

In a 5 team competition 7 if you add in London and New York, Mayo have won 47, Galway 46 and Roscommon 24. Changing to straight knockout wont help the smaller counties win any more.

Its same in Munster even with Tipp winning today. Same in Leinster for nearly all the counties.

Getting rid of the back door wont give underdogs any chance. It not being in place didnt help many so called underdogs win in the system before 2001.

I don't think that's accurate. It would be their league performance next year, which would determine whether they play for next year's Sam Maguire. Being Division 3 this year wouldn't matter. They'd still have a chance to get promoted from Division 3 next year.
Tipp have some excellent players and a couple of really classy forwards. We saw this in 2016, but consistency has been their problem. They only squeaked past Limerick a few weeks ago, but were comfortably the better team today against Cork.
If they play to their potential and their big players deliver like they did today, they'll give Mayo plenty.
Congrats to both Tipp and Cavan today. Thoroughly deserved wins for both on a day that'll live long in the memory.

Warmest congratulations to Tipperary. On an historic week-end for the GAA in which Tipperary were part of that tragic day in 1920. It has been a long wait of 85 years for this achievement. It was very much a team success with your defence playing brilliantly. Quinlivan, O'Brien, Sweeney and O'Riordan were outstanding. It is a great day for football. The Munster championship medals and jerseys will be cherished by the players.

Sure will - what great memento's to keep and look back on. Super stuff.

I think there will be plenty of demand for those Tipp replica jerseys now... Real collectors item.

Enjoy..!

I know it was only a secondary competition, but I was at the McGrath Cup Final in Limerick last January and with both teams at fairly full strength Limerick routed Cork and Danny Neville gave an exhibition, but he was only coming back form injury v Tipp a few weeks ago. I do not think that Cork team, no more than their present hurling team, are up to much.

If Tipp got away with Cork did as well. I saw cork shoulder charge a tIpp played and he coming and the ref gave- when a Tipp did exactly the same thing he rightly gave the free to Cork.
