Think you're right. Growing up I never heard anyone call it a 'hurl' Thought it was hilarious first time I heard it.. skillet (Limerick) - Posts: 1118 - 13/11/2020 13:23:10 2308335 Link 1 |

Always heard it called hurl. It must be a regional thing. MicktheMiller (Offaly) - Posts: 421 - 13/11/2020 18:53:31 2308457 Link 0 |

The 'authorities' in the North called it an offensive weapon and on many occasions, particularly in the 70s and 80s fellas could find themselves lifted for having one. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9838 - 18/11/2020 21:59:14 2311253 Link 1 |

The club I'm from know what to do with a hurl boy. Not that long since we beat St Anne's in a Leinster Intermediate Semi Final... Dee O Keefe and Liam Og McGovern played too.

Very true Ulsterman. GAA players had to it up with a lot of petty harassment in those times.

Having played 1 of those clubs, a weapon is indeed a good analogy.
