Dublin V Kilkenny Leinster Semi Final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Really looking forward to this one.

I think it could be a great game. There hasn't been much between these sides when they've met over the last few years.

Would be a lot more confident if we were playing them in Parnell Park, but we looked impressive on the wide open spaces of Croke Park at the weekend vs Laois. Kilkenny will be a different animal though no doubt.

Interested to hear people views on this one? How do people see this one going?

Would love to see Dublin beat the Cats but can't see it.
Watched the Laois game again last night.
Bringing the ball into contact, turning back into trouble instead of straight running and drawing the foul, will cost us if we do the same again.
Some excellent performances but the Cats will bring a new level of speed and intensity that we could struggle with.

I'd favor KK by 5 points. I think Dublin will start better due to just playing a match and KK may be a bit stale at first. KK are more PHYSICAL than Laois and will probably wear the Dubs down by the final whistle.

I think Dublin has a terrific chance of winning. Kilkenny are an unknown right now. TJ Richie Hogan Colin Fennelly are all a bit older. Some of the younger lads will have to take a big step forward for Kilkenny to be a contender this year.

Yeah look, ... as i said KK will be a different animal. Its very important that we match their intensity from the get go. It sure will be tough. But based on the leinster championship the last two years, there really isn't much between the sides, which gives me hope. Sure look at last year, all the so called ''big 4'' in leinster all finished on the same amount of points and could only be separated by score difference. Incredibly competitive. There's no reason why we shouldn't be backing ourselves this weekend and have real belief that we can get a result. Yes KK are a great side, but they aren't the KK of old. Not even close in my opinion.

Dublin will be up at half time and then the ferocious work rate of Kilkenny will grind them down in the end. KK by 3.

I agree with that, Fionn. Seems to be a failing of many Dublin hurling teams (including underage) I've seen. I'd also prefer to see Sean Moran at centreback than midfield. Having said that, Dublin seem to have a stronger panel this time than in recent years.

It is Kilkenny though. Been better than them is not enough. You need to be several times better than them as we have found out often. Even then they will come from behind and draw or pip you in the last second. A good game hopefully and Dublin can compete. I have never seen the Cats not do so.

Ya the first half score will give a false sense that the game is close before KK kick on in the 2nd

I think the emergence of a quality free taker in Donal Buke could be a huge factor. With all due respect to David Tracey, he was a great servant to Dublin, but was never a natural free taker IMO and was liable to miss more than a few.

Look at last years game. TJ Reid scored 1-12 from place balls (1 peno, 12 frees). Compared to Tracey's 6 from frees , and he missed a few. TJ Reid doesn't miss frees or hardly ever.

The game between the two sides from 2018. Same story. KK converted 14 frees to our 7 frees.

Never under estimate how vitally important a reliable free taker is in a game of hurling nowadays. It can literally be in the winning and losing of a match.

Burke has a long way to go to be considered a reliable free taker. But what I've seen form him so far between club and county is that he is a natural free taker with the perfect technique to become one.

Can this game be watched on GAAGO without being a customer?

Dont forget we had Paul Ryan also on the frees.
But as you say, neither as clinical as the Cats free takers unfortunately.

I think Donal Burke will be introduced to some overly friendly tackles early on in the game.
Part and parcel welcome to the big stage... He needs to be ready for it.

We need to limit the amount of turnovers out the field though - there is only so much EOD can do at full back...

Yes, a fiver to watch Kilkenny v Dublin. But it's a tenner to watch Galway v Wexford; why's that?

Yeah i think our full back line is highly suspect (bar EOD obviously, one of the best fullbacks in the country).

I also prefer to see Sean Moran at centre back.

Yeah Burke will be in for some special treatment on Saturday. He has all the skills, but skills alone wont be enough against KK. You need to be ready to get into a dog fight. Whether Burke has that in his locker only time will tell. Saturday could be a big indicator. Huge game for him!!!!

Galway v Wexford is not available in Ireland so most likely you will get a high quality RTE feed in the UK where as games not normally on TV will be single cam like the club games in October.

I think the for the difference in price is that according to the GAAGO site, Kilkenny v Dublin is 'Broadcast by: GAAGO', and 'Available: All countries'. Whereas Galway v Wexford is 'Broadcast by: RTÉ, and 'Available: All countries except Island of Ireland.'

I'm afraid to say it but Dublin have no chance if they don't move Crummey and Moran. Crummey is arguably the best number 5 in the game and they need him there with Reid lurking around that area. Who am I to question a manager like Mattie Kenny but with some changes and Liam Rushe camped on the edge of the square, I'd fancy Dublin to win. KK don't have a full back capable of marking Rushe if hes anywhere near fit.

Id prefer Crummey in the half back line myself. But i was impressed with him playing in the forwards vs Laois.

Rushe unfortunately isn't the player he once was, although on his day can wreak havock in the FF position. Still think his best position was centre back when he was at his best.
