Did you see his point that day from the sideline? 40 yards up the pitch on the right hand side and split the posts with his left foot, not exaggerating but few inter county players in Ireland could have done that. Would like to see him get inter county level fit and see if he could compete, i suspect he could? Would also like to see Cathal Mc Grath given a chance, again if he could fitness levels up would be interesting if he could compete?

there are loads of players in down who deserve a chance ... there is no players from darra cross or banbridge on the county panel and they have a few handy footballers. Glassdruman, Arglass, carryduff in div 3 have a few good footballers 2 .. nd in div 4 st johns have a couple of players who could be worth a trail and agaderg have good footballers like simson and anderson. Not all the good players play in div 1

yes benny mcardle will be a good player for Down, indeed along with Clarke he was prob the standout Down minor player of 2004 and he won an Ulster Colleges All Star. They need quality players like him on the team, and Gary McArdle should also get a fairer chance this year, hes a bigger player than Murney but Murney got more chances than him even when he was taken off against Tyrone. Other players who should get a chance are Mark Poland of Longstone and more East Down players. There are no representation from teams like Drragh Cross and Kilief.

From what i hear downmidfielder, Anderson hasnt played for aghaderg at all this term and very rarely before that, he seems to get a lot of press for a lad that doesn't play. When our club played them in c'ship he was standing along the line! Perhaps A.Derg could shed light on why he won't play

Anderson is indeed a talented footballer and you are correct he played a limited number of games for Aghaderg this season, last season and the season previous! He has been involved in County Minor, U21 and Sigerson Panels over the last 3/4 years plus has spent the last 2 summers in America, he probably has played more actual football matches in America than he has in Ireland over the last 3/4 years! It's easy to criticise and you can't really blame a young guy for grasping the opportunity to spend summers in America or be involved in County set ups if selected but I would like to see him play more games for the club. God knows small rural clubs need all the players they can get, especially the more talented ones!

He was standing on the sideline in the championship semi final because he was flying back to America to play in the New York Championship Semi-Final!

sure why dont we make it the downaghederg team this year! wise up rory simpson is a good player but there is better in the likes of warrenpoint bandbridge darragh cross, glasdrumman ardglass like.. no offence but there are players better in these clubs! lets get realistic aghaderg r a division 4 team that might not even go up!

To be fair now, Magic got a start in the league at no.14 a couple of years ago against Derry I think it was and didn't look up to intercounty standard at all, not so sure if he can cut it especially with the current Down forward line looking reasonably strong- we've enough good forwards on the bench or not on the squad at all (Aidan Burns, Michael Walsh). I'd rather see those players return than for Ross to give Magic another go

another question thats has to be asked is where is all the minors that won the all ireland in 2005 ? Any off them ready too step up. Paul and james were the only two that made the breack thorough this year and they did nt even get a good chance

Listen lads lets get the facts sorted here, we want to get to an Ulster Final this year and use are on here complaining about why div3 and 4 players are not on the county panel?! Rory simpson scored an excellent point and fair play to him but what else has he done? Will he take over free kick dutys from Carr or Doyle? I think not! yes i agree that people should be given a fair trial but when mayobridge have dominated Down football the last 10 years and can't do anything in Ulster i don't think Division 4 is the answer. What we should have is better coaching at underage level so we can nuture the talent coming through!

the attitude through out the county needs changed,i will get lambasted for this but here goes, Sean Cavanagh was offered the chance to play pro football in oz, he choose the possibility of All Ireland success with his county and has three AL medals to show for it. our most promising player choose the money, that of course is his choice and who could blame him, but it shows the difference in attitudes in the counties, in tyrone playing for your county means EVERYTHING, in Down it no longer matters.

Sorry F.TQ thats not entirely accurate regarding Tyrones players commitment to Gaelic Football. I have to mention Kyle Coney of their current Minor team who has currently accepted a 2 year contract a Syndey Swans ( I think).

Also.. IMO I can't fault Martin Clarke. It was a gamble but he appears to have made the right choice given the reports that I have read.
