He got one because he deserved one. Tyrone couldn't handle him anyway.

Look, you're obviously able to detect whatever you want in a post lad. You only want to look at what you consider to make your case for Clifford. I think you've got to accept the judgement of the panel on this one and just walk away now like a good man. You're sounding a bit frantic at this stage. Maith an fear. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 03/11/2019 14:31:19 2247392 Link 1 |

Football fans often acuse hurling fans of snobbery but yet football fans never label football threads as football threads. This is the mens football all-star 2019 thread not the hurling ,handball, camogie or tiddlywinks threads so please label it so Breezy (Limerick) - Posts: 1236 - 03/11/2019 16:27:27 2247422 Link 0 |

What panel? What judgement? Generally, when you make an argument that A is better tha B you back up your argument with some facts. This I have done; you have not. And please avoid puerile insults such as "lad' and "good man". They don't add to your argument at all. Aibrean (Kerry) - Posts: 263 - 03/11/2019 18:08:07 2247458 Link 2 |
You're talking about them, you've mentioned them several times already.

I don't get why hurling all stars are put on the same pedestal as football all stars. Hurling is a sport played by a handful of counties and the hurling all stars should not be treated with anywhere near the same regard as those for football.

Thank you but I wouldn't say I disagree with the other lad , he has made some good valid points.

Ya, the hurlers should only get dry bread and water while the footballers get steak and chips with a pint of Heineken. How dare they have their awards night in the same building as the footballers anyway. hamstring (Limerick) - Posts: 318 - 04/11/2019 00:56:07 2247560 Link 0 |
Argument, there's no argument at all. The panel that adjudged O Shea to be the young player of the year. Sure there's no argument about it lad it's all done and dusted. You don't have to take my word on it it's their opinion that counts. O Shea got his award on merit for his contribution over the year. That's why it's called " young player of the year " QED. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 04/11/2019 09:00:35 2247575 Link 0 |
Yes and the world is flat, climate change is a hoax and we are all being controlled by the Reptile people. Murphy got one simply because he was one of the outstanding footballers in the country in 2019. End of. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9155 - 04/11/2019 09:32:45 2247581 Link 2 |
The All stars our a joke its only for the elite counties, there is one simple thing they could do and its have your team of the year for all four divisions. Yourjoking (USA) - Posts: 706 - 04/11/2019 11:31:32 2247616 Link 1 |
It's a nice idea but poor RD's head would fall off when Meath only get 3 Division 2 All-Stars!

If there was a rating system Murphy would of been one of the first names in the team. He gave two complete 10/10 performances v Tyrone and Kerry playing centre forward v Tyrone and at midfield v Kerry showing his full range of talent in both games. In the games v Fermanagh and Cavan he controlled the temp of the game and popped up where needed and I would give him 8/10 in these two games. He was at his best v Meath, especially in the second half and needed to be be as Donegal were in trouble with 10 mins to go but him and Ryan McHugh were exceptional on the day. 9/10. The Mayo game was his poorest performance of the championship and this was because he kicked a few wides in terrible conditions but still ended up with 1-4 and was directly involved in 1-8 from 1-10 Donegal scored. Even though he wasn't at his best he still nearly pulled the game out of the fire and didn't have much help on the day. Any Mayo person I spoke to after still raved about his performance but I'd still probably give him a harsh 7/10. This would leave him with a 8.66 average against 4 Division 1 teams and 2 Division 2 teams. I'd be confident that supporters from the teams Donegal played in 2019 will agree with the ratings I have given. By the way I think Stephen O'Brien is very unlucky as is Ciaran Kilkenny but it's one of those years when most of the top forwards in the country performed at a high level. It may well go down in years to come as one of the best all star teams named. So many current and future greats were selected. Mobot (Donegal) - Posts: 459 - 04/11/2019 12:05:38 2247630 Link 2 |
Michael Murphy has been one of the top players in the country for several years. He has it all - he can win his own ball, his work rate is second to none, he can set up scores for colleagues and is one of the best finishers in the game. He has set ridiculously high standards for himself which he invariably lives up to, year after year. In my humble opinion there isn't another player in the country that has shown the same consistency, and how people are questioning his selection on the All-Star team is beyond me. The Mayo game this year may not have been his best but he was still one of the top players on the field that evening. Does he have to be man of the match every day to deserve an All-Star? Of course players like Ciaran Kilkenny, Stephen O'Brien and Brian Howard had strong claims for inclusion in the half forward line, while Ryan McHugh, James McCarthy and Colm Boyle were unlucky to lose out to Howard in the half back line, but I think it would have been a travesty of justice had Murphy been excluded. For the record, I have absolutely no Donegal connections.
