Davy Fitz To Galway

Replying To tiobraid:  "It's clearly a different style of play! Are you for real? There was members of the full back line inside the far 45 in that game! And what you mean if the county is from Munster. Derek McGrath's name and sweeper is mentioned for the last 6 years! Go home you're drunk"
i hardly ever have a drink even though i work in a bar.
call it a sweeper only when its wexford or waterford, its an extra man everywhere else.every team has some form of defensive structure,it would be stupid not to.
last year watching wexford was the most exciting and tactical hurling i have ever seen.
it might be just me,but give me tactics and working the ball over ground hurling, drive it long and let them deal with it.
to those who say davy is an instant hit and then it tails off,it tailed off in the 2nd year and he could have walked then but he came back and delivered a leinster title,so i think he put that to bed.
i dont always like his sideline antics but again, every manager is fired up on the line, how could you not be?

Replying To Past hurler:  "I thought Galway would be mad for someone like Davy Fitz.

Galway are mentally weak when it comes to winning titles at senior Inter County level.

They had played second fiddle to Kilkenny since entering Leinster in 2009, winning Leinster 3 times in the 11 years compared to Kilkennys 6, granted it was a very strong Kilkenny team.

Last 2 All Ireland's were in 2017 and 1988.

I wondering could Davy's siege mentality actually help a county like Galway who have had very little success at senior level?"
How many All Irelands has your great county won? Come out from under the hedge or we might think that you're the one who is mentally weak!

And which county outside of the big 3 would you say is mentally strong. And don't use Galway's final win rate as an example as we all know they got to many a final without a real game

well said, Galway were helicoptered into finals they had no business being in, hence the record in finals. Better days ahead for us.

I thought only the Dublin footballers could afford helicopters.

Only in two finals in the past seventy years have they been 'without a game'-55 and 58. They have been in 19 finals in that time and beaten some fine Cork (4), Tipp (4) , Limerick (1) Kilkenny (4) and Offaly (2) and Clare (1) teams in Semi Finals in sixteen of those semi finals. It is simply not true to say 'they got to many a final without a game'

You are correct of course. But basically it means we won our first round championship game and then lost the 2nd round championship game (which happened to be the final) on all of these occasions. And it would have to be said that the teams that we lost to in all of these 2nd round championship games were undoubtedly good ones --- actually they were the best in the land those particular years!!!!

Getting back to Davy. His big concerns was the travel from Clare several times a week. One can understand that but by all accounts that has been corrected in Wexford. BY the way we have a new manager but that does not generate much interest on this forum or else where. That is probably for the best and we prefer to keep our heads down anyway.

Davy is staying with Wexford, that's the end of it.

Since Galway entered Leinster( accordingly playing more games), they have played in 5 senior All -Ireland hurling Finals(including a replay) and won just 1 of them.Galway have a poor record in senior hurling finals ( they win on average 1 in 5 ) and it has nothing to do with helicopters.

Sadly as a Galway man I agree with you, our record in All Ireland Senior Hurling finals is worse than Mayo's in football.

Not that it needed much help but defo didn't do any harm to Davy when he was agreeing his mileage allowance either.

I'm sure he will and welcome him. However I think it is about the players not the manager. It was bad to see them quit in my opinion last year. Fanning might be a nice guy but he was like a deer in the head lights and then the players downed tools.

Cahill will change the style again in my opinion. He seems to be a no nonsense type of manager. That style can go either way.

From a Tipp perspective I'm disappointed to see him leave the county.

Just Millage allowance ? Only if the truth be know. Don't begrudge him as he is putting in the work. They love him in Wexford and I would not begrudge our neighbours success either.

But how many were they favourites. They played the best Kilkenny team of all time and a Limerick team who were flying and definitely the best team in 2018 so I'm not sure if it's that poor or an accurate reflection of the strength of Galway hurling
