Replying To midlands:  "I wasn't aware that the GAA Presidency is a paid position."
Not sure whether it is or not as there is no transparency around salaries & they voted down the transparency motion at Congress. This caused much outrage a few years ago when a certain presidents salary ( massive six figure sum) was published & at the time it was said the GAA were paying his salary whilst with them.

Replying To legendzxix:  "Congress voted in Dublin John. Congress voted against Donegal's motion to bring Dublin out of Croke Park. Sean Kelly approved the funds that flowed into Dublin. He said a few years back that Dublin should be sustainable by now but the flow of funding has remain unchanged. A runaway train. If only we could create an environment for the 3 counties in 1 to compete against each other, assisting a great return on the investment.

Leinster semi-finals:
Meath v North Dublin
South Dublin v Mid Dublin

You are obsessed with splitting Dublin?
What about all advantages your own county has over so many? How about dilution of that?
You want no proper change to all ireland because the current set up suits your county so much

Most of our recent presidents have been schoolteachers so the salaries to be recouped by the GAA certainly wouldn't be anything like "a massive six figure sum". I suspect the outrage you're referring to must have happened more than "a few years ago".

Splitting Dublin is one way to kill Leinster for good.

If Jarlath Burns was made of chocolate he would eat himself. He has always viewed himself as 'Presidential' material and is very much a loyal Croke Park man. He had already stated that the allocation of resources and the unfairness towards Dublin won't be his priority so we know where he stands. He has also ruffled a few feathers in Ulster by saying that flags and anthems would be on his agenda. Support for him in Ulster is very much split and I know many Gaels in Antrim wouldn't vote for him.

Jarlath Burns would be a great President, a man steeped in the Irish language and culture who can be found out around his local club with his sleeves rolled up doing the ground work. He embodies all that is good about the GAA. As for the flag and anthem remarks, they are being misrepresented as Jarlath has already clarified. However, I do believe that Jarlath will be involved in outreach to unionists but not to the detriment or dilution of our values. There are those within Ulster who will be against him but that will mainly be petty parochial politics type of people of an sdlp ilk who will be against him just because of his family connections and history. As for Dublin, the anti-Dublin brigade on this site can be quite sickening, can people not just congratulate Dublin on an historic victory which has nothing to do with money and all to do with hard work, dedication and belief. Every gael should be proud of Dublin and aim to emulate them.

I think the problem with the president now is that ever since Kelly managed to open up Croker to other sports, every president wants to 'make their mark' and change the game so their name will be fondly remembered.

Sometimes it is as important to just maintain!

Yes it is more than a few years ago, loose interpretation of the word few, it was a very public issue at the time & the institution involved has been rebranded since.

Well said Tom on both Byrnes and Dublin. I have always been impressed by Byrnes both as a player and official. He has the interests of the association at heart always.Might be a tad conservative for some but head and shoulders over some recent incumbents. Excellent speaker in both Irish and English.
WRT Dublin I was delighted to see them winning it .They did it the right way too playing attacking football all the way. Bit rich to hear Kerry people whinging on about them!How many AI's do they have?? Just askin like ;-)
