Yes...Very versatile player...best man marker that Cork have. His blinding pace could be best suited for forward role. Cork have potential...let's hope that the new 2 tier system being proposed by the GAA doesn't eliminate them from competing for Sam, before a ball is kicked. As it stands, as Cork will be in Division 3...they need to reach provincial decider, otherwise they will be in Tier 2 for next year. A preliminary round meeting with Kerry, could realize this eventuality.

Definitely agree with Mick Fitz. From a Donegal perspective I would have Stephen McMenamin. panamasam (Australia) - Posts: 2782 - 19/09/2019 12:00:26 2237507 Link 0 |
McMenamin another good shout, had a brilliant year and haven't heard much mention of an All Star...but maybe an outside shot. I'd agree that he is underrated. I like big Lanyon too, think he has some real quality

I think Ciaran Kilkenny is the most underrated footballer out there. I know he gets lots of praise as it stands but every single game I see him play, his contribution is simply immense. Connolly got mentioned for his 'laser' pass in the final replay and McCaffrey got rightly praised for his exploits in the drawn game. slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6480 - 19/09/2019 12:54:57 2237530 Link 1 |
I wouldn't say he is underrated, naybe others would agree or disagree but for me he gets ample recognition and is rightly recognised as one of the best in the game. He did get Man of the Match in the replay there on Saturday so he definitely didn't go unnoticed. Although it just depends how highly you rate him personally, he is a beast and always contributing his max every game and his consistency is key to him being one of the best in the country right now. But for me I think he is rightly rated atm with 3 all starts and probably 4 after this year boman11 (Antrim) - Posts: 237 - 19/09/2019 13:43:30 2237547 Link 0 |
I think Ian Burke is a fantastic footballer but how can you say i guy that got an All Star is under rated??? He is very highly rated! Definition of under rated required me thinks! Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1834 - 19/09/2019 13:45:19 2237548 Link 0 |
Maybe not underrated, however his immense contribution sometimes gets overlooked, maybe that is down to the very high standard he plays at in every game. Along with Cluxton and Fenton he is a player that is near impossible to replace.

He has 3 All stars, and was nominated for footballer of the year last year, will probably get another all star this year and possible another footballer of the year nomination. I have lost count of the number of MOM awards he's got.......... how much more does he need to get before he leaves the under rated category?????? A statue in O'Connell street? See my thread about him on the Dublin page. He is the pivotal player in this Dublin team playing a subtle playmaker role, dictating the pace, getting the blocks in, scoring the low risk points. He is the point guard. If he plays poorly Dublin struggle a la game 1. If he plays well then Dublin fire a la game 2. No Connolly Hollywood passes, no Mannion blockbuster points just soaking up opposition attacks, turning ball over, making himself available and building the attacks. Dublin's strategy is complex when you look at the roles that Kilkenny, Scully and Howard are asked to perform. The tasks performed by these guys sometimes go unnoticed. Ciaran is a beast of a player with a savage work rate.

Ruairi Deane from Cork. I'm sure he's rated in Cork but to me he was outstanding in this years championship and should get an All Star nomination at least. Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1834 - 19/09/2019 13:52:45 2237552 Link 0 |
Neil Flynn of Kildare is another cracker. Although he may not ne underrated as such I think on his day is a match for the best defenders on offer boman11 (Antrim) - Posts: 237 - 19/09/2019 14:46:43 2237578 Link 0 |

I always found Seamus O'Shea underrated maybe because his younger brother grabs most of the limelight i don't know? has been a very important player for our neighbours over the years and will leave a big void to fill once gone. ispeakwisdom (Roscommon) - Posts: 2487 - 19/09/2019 15:30:15 2237588 Link 0 |
Is that Michael Langon u refer to boman? He is quality alright and had a good year. Still think he has more potential than we have seen yet. Plus the Mayo game proved some of our younger lads have a bit to go in terms of developing their mental side of the game where the pressure of the situation got to them. The same cannot be said of McMenamin who took it to Mayo and quite rightly should be getting mentioned in terms of getting an all star which he probably won't.

Yes sorry Langon is who im referring to, serious player who could indeed step it up again but the question always is will they, I believe he will. Indeed you are right though the experienced heads prevailed that day but a gutting defeat like that can sometimes work wonders for these young lads going into next year and beyond, I expect big things from Donegal in years to come (well I hope). They and Kerry for me are the only 2 that will be able to contest with Dublin

We lost potentially our best under 20 player last year to the AFL, James Madden, he would have broke through this year, he's was faster then Jack, officially. He's playing for Brisbane and signed a two extended deal recently after his rookie deal.
