Those were individual mistakes. This Mayo team play to the final whistle where as previous ones were beaten in finals before the ball was even thrown in. This Mayo team are mentally tough.

Bullcrap.

Mayo went to Killarney with the sole purpose of keeping their foot on Kerry's throat. They were beating soundly, end off. This crap of "was it just a box ticking exercise" is disingenuous to Kerry's performance.

Meath have a chance Sunday. There backs are superb and if Newman and young Conlon click then they could cause plenty of problems for Mayo. Would be interesting to see the young Walsh lad start.

But when the chips are down this Mayo team prosper. Expecting a big game from the Middle third of Mayo. But there forwards will find it tough against Meaths defense.

Yew, I'm still less nervous when we're behind with 10 minutes to go than when we're winning. Probably supporters of most counties are the same. I'd love if we're 5 points up with 10 minutes left we flip the switch and start playing like we're 5 points down and stop looking at the clock. Our forwards have a lot of threat this year but I've less faith in our backs to hold out for a tight win so let's keep it in the forwards plugging away until the game is over.

I wouldn't say they are mentally soft, I think they are suffering from two things going into this match.
1, a growing injury list , and playing players who might be less than 100%.
2, complacencies, they I believe will underrate this Meath team (haven't beat a division one team) (we only played one, dubs) and will listen to the crap spouted by Spillane and co, that we not a top 8 team.
Both of those particularly the complacencies which could be their undoing, I believe donegal knew what to expect, and went into game knowing it was going to be a battle. Mayo no matter what won't think that. Mayo will have to be very good to beat Meath. That is not bs , that is fact.

Fully agree

Mayo just a couple of players short in vital games and at times haven't got the rub of the green.

Definitely mentally tough but they were operating at a maximum level setting with the players at their disposal and when operating at 100% malfunctions are inevitable.

Also last couple of seasons Mayo have been plagued with injuries, some unlucky but I reckon some are coming through wear and tear

I agrrr with you that Mayo will need to play very well to beat Meath but I totally disagree that Mayo will underestimate Meath...that's crap talk. Mayo have been in enough tough battles down the years to underestimate anyone.

It would be foolish of Mayo to underestimate Meath after last weekend's results. As Andy McEntee said after the Donegal game a lack of experience cost Meath dearly in Donegal. They will need to be much wiser if they're to beat Mayo.

Supporters might me complacent Royal but after a tricky second half against Down and a very tight finish against Armagh I'd hope that Horan has none of his players and backroom in any way complacent on Sunday.

Meath have a great chance going into this game. The super eights to them were a bonus and they performed better than most people expected against a team seen by some as the nearest challenger to the Dubs. Mayo are struggling for air at the moment and will find it hard to recover mentally from last weekends loss. Our game over the last few years has been based on swarm tackling and then breaking at pace, which was fine when most of our lads were in the twenty five to twenty eight year age group. Now most of our defense are in their thirties, some of our most energetic players are out injured and a couple more are carrying injuries. To compensate for that we have developed a kicking game which malfunctioned spectacularly against Kerry. Having to lift themselves week after week is wearing mentally and physically. Meath have no fear of Mayo, are brimming with confidence and will smell blood. I don't think for a minute that Mayo will underestimate Meath. If we lose it will be because we are not good enough.

I'm usually an optimist but it Just feels like we are near the end with the bulk of this Mayo team. Will be a major achievement to make a semi final from here but I'm not ruling it out.

Going to Croke Park Sunday as it may be the last time we get to see Boyle, Higgins, Clarke, Moran etc play there and they owe us nothing but Jesus it's depressing we didn't cross the line and win an All Ireland.

I'm expecting this contest to be a high scoring that will go to the wire. I think Mayo will win by 2 or 3 points for a number of reason. its a do or die match for Mayo where they normally play their best football and i would expect a big reaction from last weekend's trimming and their record in Croke park since 2012 is only 2nd to Dublin's.

Biggest concern for Meath is their fitness, they faded badly against Donegal, from leading by a point to end up losing by 9. One week is unlikely enough time to recover and when did Meath last play such high intensity games in such a short space of time before? how they handle that situation will probably be make or break for them.

Is Aidan O'Shea the most overrated player in the country? seems the man lets the team down and goes MIA when the chips are down, he is all bluster and good at throwing himself and his weight and opinions around but he isn't very effective in my opinion.

I think it's the lack of depth on the bench rather than fitness that's the issue. The same key Meath players like Keogan have to flog themselves to make the team competitive against a quality team like Donegal. Then we don't have the quality to come off the bench to take up the sack in the last 10 mins.

He'll destroy Meath's midfield this coming Sunday IMO.

I've no idea what the thinking was last weekend, not having him mark Moran from the start - he could have at the very least broken even and nullified Moran's influence. Vaughan is a great athlete and will run all day but is not the man to be contesting kickouts with Davi Moran.

Kerry did a good job of blocking O Shea for our own kickouts
Vaughan shouldnt be contesting kick outs, hes not a good fielder of a ball, he was making runs to sideline but some of the kickouts were floated back inside him and that gives advantage to opposing midfielder and Moran loved seeing them kickouts coming at him.
Mayo didnt work hard enough to get free for a kick out.
Thats where Dublin are brillant, every player is trying/looking to get the kick out, when you the hill behind cluxton you can see all the options he has, the defenders are making runs like a full forward line would.

I wouldn't agree there. I think the Clare game took a awful lot more out of them than was thought. Colm nally said it after match, very dehydrated and dead on their feet. No matter what there will always be 9 lads who have to play full game, so 8 outfield, As far as I know they only doing a light training tonight.

I don't think Cillian O'Connor got enough recognition for what he achieved last weekend, that was unbelievable when you think about it. To become the highest ever scorer in championship football is some going for a lad of only 27. He could well play for another 6/7 years and at this rate he would be out of sight. He might be the highest scorer for a long time to come.

If we get beat it could well be. Clifford rightly stole the headlines last weekend. As for Cillian, fine achievement alright but he will never get the recognition unless he and Mayo win Sam.
