That's a very big assumption when you look at the leinster final losers over the last 10 years. We are up against it with Clare.

By that logic I assume that you think Meath are going to win every game they play this and come September will be All Ireland Champions. Fair assumption?

If you can't dream it you'll never achieve it, if mayo had more belief in themvselfs rather then self pity then I'm sure they would of won some of them all Ireland's they left behind in recent years.

Those sneaky Meath hoors... roll over against Dublin so they then get handy odds from Paddy P! And all over the county they lump the money on them before they clobber Clare.

That's not a real fan that's just deluded. If anyhting a "real" fan is someone who believes their team won't win but goes anyway, hoping to be proven wrong

Losing leinster finalist have only won the next game 4 times since it began in 2001. Terrible record. bobkarlgees (Meath) - Posts: 1263 - 04/07/2019 13:07:35 2205416 Link 0 |
God forbid someone actually thinks they can challenge the Dubs! Meath really are becoming pathetic. Over the past couple of years we have beaten Dublin in the league and got closer to them in championship football than any other county bar Mayo. I suppose we should all take Meaths approach and accept our hammering before it even happens. 4 points in over 70 min of football!! Wally (Tyrone) - Posts: 913 - 04/07/2019 13:20:07 2205422 Link 1 |
That's me told! It's amazing how themes like these just get repeated without thinking at all, like a parrot! No thought, just mindless repetition. It's also amazing how many lads on here when they don't like what someone has posted or disagree, just look at the county the person who made the comment is from and think of some cheap put down about that county, despite it having nothing whatsoever to do with the comment. Now believe it or not, I wasn't having a go at Meath. I was pointing out how absolutely mindless belief that your team (regardless of the team you support) WILL win every game they play, not that they can or are capable but WILL, with absolutely no rational basis to base that on, is ridiculous. Would you agree with that or would you subscribe to the royaldunne school of blind optimism? Do you think Meath WILL win Sam this year? the_walls (Mayo) - Posts: 495 - 04/07/2019 13:43:40 2205437 Link 6 |
Yes of course. Why the hell wouldn't I? Will it happen?? Probably not. But by Jesus I will go to every game thinking we will win. No point otherwise

Don't the bookies odds reflect where the money is actually going?

You do realise you have completely contradicted yourself right? You've just confirmed that Meath WILL win Sam. Not that they have a chance or they could but that they WILL. In the next breath you then say it probably won't happen. You do see how that doesn't make any sense right?
the_walls (Mayo) - Posts: 495 - 04/07/2019 14:09:31 2205451 Link 4 |
I will go to every game believing they will win. That clear enough? Also I except that it might not happen, but if you do not go into a game believing you going to win. You beat beforehand. Perhaps that is why mayo haven't won since 51, I don't know. But every supporter should go to a game to cheer on a victory, since 1975 I've missed about 3 championship games, about 5 league ones and a few obc. I have yet to go to a game thinking we will get beat. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 04/07/2019 14:55:03 2205476 Link 2 |
The usual pathetic put down towards the county of the poster that you somehow thinks reinforces your point. If you believe something will happen, not that it could happen or even that there is a very high probability that it could happen, but that it WILL happen, then it makes absolute sense to also expect that it might not happen. If you are locked into an absolute position then you logically cannot also expect the opposite to happen. Of course every supporter should go to a game to cheer their team on to victory. There isn't a single person here who will disagree with that. Of course we all see through rose tinted glassed when it comes to our own teams, however most people have some realistic view of their own team. If you try to look at a game objectively and based on what you have weighed up, you think it more likely that the opposition will win, that does not make you less of a supporter as long as you hope you are totally wrong and are roaring and shouting your team on in the stands. For example say Wicklow play Dublin next year. It would be absolutely ridiculous if there was a Wicklow fella going around telling all and sundry not just that Wicklow have a chance, but that they are definitely going to win. That's not support of your team, it's just pure and utter delusion! the_walls (Mayo) - Posts: 495 - 04/07/2019 15:31:24 2205487 Link 5 |
That's a shocking record in fairness. This is our 4th go at losing a Leinster final and winning the next game. In 2012 we should have had a good chance against Laois but they were better than their 3 point win suggested. In 2013 we came up against a decent Tyrone side and might have beaten them only for the brilliant Sean Cavanagh. In 2014 we were very poor against Armagh, never looked like winning but we were becoming a shambles at that stage. Our multipe collapses throughout 2015 & 2016 proved that. In 2019 v Clare well who knows, I'm hopeful of a result but not expectant Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8657 - 04/07/2019 16:35:59 2205512 Link 1 |
It's not a put down. It's a genuine point. I'll be honest I don't come across many people who go to matches expecting to be beat. What's the point?? Apprehensive maybe , but not expecting to win ? I find that bizarre. My point is that on many occasions Mayo let victory slip through their hands. And maybe it's a mayo thing, I mean while I or someone else might not think mayo would have a chance coming up against dubs this year, I would be shocked if you thought the same. My apologies if you thought it was a put down (that this time was not my intention). Anyway I'll leave it at that. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 04/07/2019 17:02:16 2205533 Link 0 |
Have faith. I'd say if Andy sticks with nearly the same forwards this time they will be gunning for revenge, I see plenty of people judging Meath on 8 players who didn't bring their shooting game in one match. While totally ignoring the other 10 games we played this year. Where we racked up some very impressive scores including against Clare. One game away from what many thought at beginning of year was unthinkable in achieving all the goals set out. Hon the royal royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 04/07/2019 17:07:05 2205535 Link 1 |
Not saying no one can challenge the dubs. Just saying it isn't Tyrone.

Not sure how this game will go but it is an incredible opportunity to reach the Super 8s for both teams. I have seen both teams live this year in the league against Donegal and was impressed with both. But for the result against Dublin I would favour Meath, that defeat could have an adverse effect. Clare have had some good results in the qualifiers and have the brilliant Gary Brennan at midfield. Toss of a coin for me but I'll go with Meath by a narrow margin. Meath couldn't have got a better draw so nothing to fall back on now .. BeJasus (UK) - Posts: 383 - 04/07/2019 19:31:37 2205588 Link 0 |
I would guess most years the beaten Leinster finalists had to play the following weekend?, having 2 weeks this year should make a big difference.
