we got a good mixture of results and games in general over the weekend...Longford won with a fair few missing...Westmeath over took Offaly to pinch the points in Tullamore...Offaly appeared to tire and were down to 14 for the last 8 minutes but momentum had swung Westmeaths way well before those last 8 minutes...Offaly have a tough away game in Longford now next week which is a must win if they are to entertain any hope of promotion at all...Carlow had a surprising easy win over Sligo...Laois I think surprised everyone with the margin of their win (even winning in Down was a big ask fullstop!)...Down are a strange team...I hear things arent good up there over a new stadium and its location and some players have opted out etc..not sure how accurate all that is but Gaelic football needs Down...I can see some counties struggling to beat them particulary at home..Laois were very impressive I hear on Saturday night so we cannot really say how bad Down were, if ye get my drift...Westmeath might be the team to get promoted maybe with Laois..lots of twists and turns to come...

How do people think this weekends round 2 games will pan out: below are my take:
Allianz FL Division 3 round 2
Westmeath v Carlow, (Westmeath to win)
Laois v Louth, (Laois to win)
Longford v Offaly, (being biased, but going for a draw in this one)
Sligo v Down, (Down to get up and running)

Regarding Down, we don't have a new stadium all our games our played in newry which holds a big crowd and there's never been a issue playing there. On the point off players opting out we had a few older players retire at the end of the last campaign and a couple of lads went to australia for work which again is not a big issue, there is a very good feel factor in down football since paddy has taken over with players who previsily left the panel have come back in.

Saturdays game we had 6 new comers starting which is always a risk but the first half they played some great football and with a host of lads ( 3 suspended ) coming back from injury i would be confident we will improve as the league goes on,Loais won this game with there experience in the last 15 mins we just didn't have same on the pitch or the bench.

We will have a few more experienced players back on sun and would expect to see us getting up and running.

if we play like we did in the first half against offaly we will be well beaten . carlow are much more defensive and cleverer than offaly . we have to be on the front foot from the start . we also have to start our strongest team so jamie gonoud dennis corroon and luke loughlin have to start . the o byrne cup is over but in o connor park last sunday some players were still thinking they were unbeatable

I think you might be talking about a new 'centre of excellence' being built rather than a stadium. It is planned for Ballykinlar (former british military base). I think it's a good spot because it is more central to the whole county.

It will be a better Division for all if ye (Down) are up there pushing for promotion...thanks for clarifying about the centre of excellence etc...heard about it on Off the Ball there some months back now that I think of it...

yeah my mistake, it is a centre of excellence,,,it was discussed in detail on off the ball on newstalk there some months ago..hope to see Down competitive and pushing for promotion...Division 3 will be all the better for it...

Two predictions wrong above.
Such an open league
Carlow v Westmeath was a real struggle. A DRAW was fair result.

Well this league is really shaping up, Louth inflict the first defeat on laois in the league since 2017, Carlow and Westmeath repeat the result of the last time they met in the league. Broderick was a huge loss to us today, the game was tight though a draw probably the fairest result.

this is certainly shaping up to be most interesting...Laois loosing to Louth, no disrespect to Louth but that is a bit of a shock..and Carlow and Westmeath drawing..didnt see that coming...

With respect Fairplayalways, we're 2 games into the NFL and your predictions are way off the mark, you say, Laois loosing to Louth, no disrespect to Louth but that is a bit of a shock, - - well not many gave Louth a chance against Laois in Portlaoise NFL game 2017. I have learned down through the years never to write of Louth.

Carlow had a surprising easy win over Sligo. - Personally I never doubted Carlow's ability to win that game.

Carlow and Westmeath drawing..didnt see that coming.. - - To me that was a 50 / 50 game, so a draw result didn't surprise me at all, fact is in fairness I think Carlow left it behind them.
From here on all game will be more difficult to predict, it will be guess work more than anything else.

Replying To Blackbog:  "Great idea
As a starter I will go way out on a limb and forecast final table if only to see how wrong I was in hindsight

1. Down 12
2 Westneath 11
3. Laois 8
4 Carlow 7
5.Longford 7
6. Offaly 6
7 Louth 2
8. Sligo 2

Or there abouts."
After 2 rounds my predictions above ae not too far off but it's early days. I see longford and louth doing better than predicted

after Laois beating Down and Longford beating Louth, without any crystal ball most people would predict Laois would beat Louth, they didn't, and that surprised most after Laois's high scoring start against Down...Westmeath were very poor in first half against Offaly, brought on a strong bench for second half and Offaly down to 14 for last 8 minutes with momentum with Westmeath, Westmeath would be predicted to beat Carlow after coming out of a tight game against Offaly in Tullamore with a win...Westmeath and Carlow ended in a draw..not a shock but most (outside of Carlow) would have thought Westmeath would be able to get over Carlow, if only by a couple of points, they didn't, it was a draw..so how can my predictions be "way off the mark"...its only a chat form for Gods sake...2 game s it maybe only in but a lot of teams messing up any promotion hopes they might have, my own Offaly included:(

My fellow Carlow men, maybe leave off 'Fairplayalways' for a minute. He was just giving his predictions and is entitled to do so. If you had have handed me a draw with Westmeath before the game i would have taken it. This is a Division which every team can beat each other. You might need 6 or 7 points to be safe, equally you might get promoted with 8 or 9! For what its worth I think Laois, Westmeath, Down and Carlow will fight for promotion. I think Sligo could be in real trouble for the drop with perhaps Louth (yes i know they had a good win over Laois but their form over the last two years have been very poor). But look i could be completely wrong. Either way there are some great competition to look forward to in this Division.

ah your grand, its all just a bit of chat and opinion..I think my own Offaly could be fighting at wrong end of the table if they don't get their act together, unlucky to loose Westmeath game day one, ok, snatched a draw from a dreadful game V Longford day 2..day 3 will tell where we are..if its not better, which is hard to see, we are in bother...great to see a team like Carlow get to Div 2 so it would...

Down v Westmeath - - - Down ( Going on vibes only.)
Carlow v Longford - - - Draw ( Can't make up my mind.)
Offaly v Louth - - - Draw ( Can't make up my mind on this one either.)
Laois v Sligo - - - Laois ( A likely result if nothing else.)
