not really that more exciting to watch if football is played well....cork played good football for years and still got no support bar the final or a kerry match in munster...competitiveness across the board is the biggest issue in football.

Nah hurling is just a better more exciting sport. Football hasn't been played right since Dublin accepted they couldn't beat the northern defensive brand and quit their entertaining all out attack style. Remember all through 2014 gavin used to love bragging in his post match interviews how he believes they should play the game in a certain way. He wasn't long changing his ways.

1817 in Pairc Ui Rinn for a historic first double header of Cork ladies & men's senior football teams, a few miles away lies a brand new multi million investment, unplayable. Beggars belief.

It was a double header with Offaly Carlow which would have brought in 2,000 + anyway. Cork football is reaching new lows, pitiful support. It would nearly be worth there while playing a game in Clonakilty at this stage. Would fit 3/4000 in there in the heart of west cork.

Dont understand the rugby fascination that our national media hype up...much better entertainment in a gaa game but that's just my opinion.

I enjoy a good game of rugby, I wouldn't want anyone belong to me playing it at a high level because it is so physical but it can be a good old battle, I enjoy the tactical nature of it too. What puts me off about it is new breed of rugby fan who laud it's skill and regard gaelic football as having no skill at all (in fairness they are only echoing the sunday game). There is fantastic skill in gaelic football. Fetching a ball in a crowd of players over head beats any rugby lineout catching of the fullback chest catch in rugby which to be fair has to be lauded for bravery but not necessarily for its skill. To keep this tread about attendance and stats. GAA attendances and general interest compares very well to the rugby provinces. Munster attendances always include season ticket holders. They often call out 12/13k attendances for Pro14 games in Thomond where in reality the season ticket holders have stayed at home and there are about 5 - 7k in the ground. That is a provincial team representing 6 counties too. In football and hurling you are getting individual counties getting crowds of 7 to 10k regularly. in the league, It is great going and often ignored with the media focusing on dropping crowds in the championship. I think over all crowds have grown but are now attending more consistently rather showing for a few big "events" during the summer. tomhealycork (Cork) - Posts: 80 - 25/02/2019 12:41:36 2167955 Link 0 |
