Fitzy, Copper, Philly

Murch, Small, Jack

Fenton, Jamsey

Howard, Kilkenny, Scully

Mannion, Con, Kilkenny.

Harsh on Davey Byrne, but id put Philly on Clifford, he beasted him in a league game in 18.

Fitzey on Geaney - Fitzy is a big game player.

Controversial one but id half think of putting Murch on a man marking job on O Shea, hes a superb man marker.

Jack on Stephen O Brien, make him track Jacks runs and empty the tank.

Rory comes on immediately when they spring Tommy Walsh, neither have the pace they used to, but would fancy Rory to cancel him out or at least turn ball into dirty ball."
Jeez not sure about ROC at the moment. He badly misjudged a hopping ball up in Omagh a few times. I am not sure he's back to where he was before NZ trip. Now if he has shown an obvious return to form in training perhaps Gavin will use him on TW, who is some unit.

Its a fair point, he wasnt great in Omagh, but i dont think Walsh offers that much more then an aerial threat on the 45 and bridging their attack, what we need is a big physical presence on him when he is sprung to contest ball and or at least make it dirty ball. Rory is an option, as is Cian if he doesn't start, else wise we are dropping back Jamsey.

Wouldn't waste Jamesy's talents on containing TW. If TW gets clean ball he can do damage feeding the likes of Geaney, O Se and Clifford. Perhaps ROC is the man to put on him. I think TW shooting has disapproved a lot. He tried a few against Tyrone and they weren't great attempts.

I was at all of the Kerry drive for 5 games. Very dissapointed when they fell at the last. A super team of footballers.

Equally, I wish this generation's equivalent all the best, a fantastic group with great footballing values. Hopefully, the immediate chasing pack will raise their standards to compete with Dublin over the coming years and make the game a better spectacle.

I wonder if Philly doesn't start could he be option on him as well, in fact the more i think it the more we have a good few options for him.

Philly is far more mobile than Walsh and Walsh would struggle to mark him if he broke forward and we could create the extra man, we all remember what he did to the Gooch and walsh isnt in that bracket of Class.

Same thing applies with Cian really. Actually the more i think of it them springing Walsh may work to our advantage, put a big mobile lad like Cian and Philly on him and we have a man over, no way is Walsh keeping up with one of those and we have a man over.

You're right. Walsh is as strong as an ox and he has some hands. Great passer of a ball in tight situations but to say he he lacks pace is an understatement. Philly looked after big Aidan O'Se no problem
Yeah, springing TW is a two-edged sword. He's a tank right enough. Put a mobile ball carrying defender on him and you do create an extra man when attacking.

Another facet i was thinking of was Moran, he noticeably wains as the game goes on and has ever increasing diminishing pace. Despite being harsh on MDM, there is a good argument to keeping him in reserve until the 50th odd min when Moran is tiring and really driving at Kerry through the centre with those bursting runs later in the game.

Starting with Jamesy and Fenton in middle, gives us that early steel in the middle, athleticism, while Jamsey can drop deeper if needed and support the central channel, i dont think Cian starts. As clear as day they will try and isolate him if we play him at sweeper.

Id be half tempted not to play with a sweeper and just put Small on a man marking job with O Shea and let him beast him. Kerry wont be breaking from Deep, it will be long diganols and trying to get out in front of their men.

Not so are about them not breaking from deep. O'Brien's goal was a prime example of how dangerous an unmarked player can be running from deep. Philly did it for us against Mayo. Don't know if he has the legs for that anymore but this young Kerry team will have.
The likes of Cooper Small and Jamesey have been great dealing with those fast diagonal balls. Cooper especially against Kerry.
Moran can't sustain a full match anymore but he can do a lot of damage if he settles into his game.. Don't know if Barry will play but he blows hot and cold but he has been effective in the past against Fenton.
I reckon a good point of attack for us is their kickouts. Ryan is young and inexperienced. If Dublin press right up on his kick outs intermittently during the game they could really pressurise him.

One thing we can't do is give soft frees. O Shea is rock solid and we need to get our tackling spot on.

I think this game could be a lot like the Mayo game. Nip and tuck with Dublin making their usual slow start in a final.
Teams could be level or thereabouts at half-time. Things is. Kerry will not wilt in the same way Mayo did. Youth and a fierce determination could keep them in it right until the end.

Fair point on coming from deep, i do think their main threat will be coming form long diagonals, i think they may be reluctant to commit men forward. I think that the problem, with teams facing Dublin you have to plan so much for playing us and nullifying our individual threats that you run the risk of undermining your natural game in planning for the eventualities.

I agree on Ryan i think we need to really test him in phases on his kick out especially if we cget a bit of momentum in our scoring. I feel the forwards coming back and helping out in the back shape will be pivotal too, Kilkenny, Mannion, Scully and Howard will be putting in huge shifts i think coming bakc bolstering defense when momentum is with Kerry.

Discipline as well as you say is Key - im looking at you John Small here, O Shea will gobble up everything going. But then so will Deano and i do feel their defense can get overwhelmed quite easily and they will use tactical fouling to stop goals, they are actually a very cynical team.

I think if we can starve them of the ball early and not let them settle, tak over a few it may test them a bit, they haven't played in Croke Park much and never a full house against the Dubs, its a completely different affair to anything they will have experienced. I think they need to be going in 3-5 ahead at half time to have a chance. Anything under that id be confident enough.

Its a fair comment on ROC's performance in Omagh. It wasn't great by any means. In his defence, his missus was due a baby that day (and had it the next day) so you could see why he might have been a bit distracted. So saying, I feel it'd be too big a risk to throw him in on AIF day as he hasn't shown that he's up to speed on the big scene just yet.

Ahh Jesus, a man could be forgiven for not being at the top of his game in those circumstances.
People say Gavin looks at how lads are going in training as a guide but like you say, if a full back has an off day to could cost very very dearly. Could you imagine how Clifford and Geaney would make hay off any misjudgments or mistakes.

I have gone off posting on here for partly that sort of reason seems very clique-ish, and to make matters worse the levels of censorship from the admin are perplexing at times - to say the least.

This time next week, will we be having serious crack, giving it to the Kerry lads or will we be humbly congratulating the Kingdom on being good enough to having stopped us?
