The main thing I liked about Lyster you could tell he was a fella who really enjoyed his job, and threw himself into it. gormdubhgorm (Dublin) - Posts: 990 - 28/08/2018 19:59:04 2137268 Link 0 |
Good point Joanne has stopped Brolly in his tracks a few times. 'Which is it Joe X or Y'? etc. It is not Lyster's style to be aggressive in his presenting. gormdubhgorm (Dublin) - Posts: 990 - 28/08/2018 20:04:41 2137272 Link 0 |
Brilliant presenter - unbiased and very knowledgeable about both football and hurling. However he seemed to enjoy winding-up Brolly and Spillane and then giving them free reign when he should have been closing them down. I like Cantwell as a presenter and with a new panel she could be excellent. neverright (Roscommon) - Posts: 1648 - 28/08/2018 20:39:52 2137282 Link 0 |
It mad to suggest it was his decision that Ryan presented Gleeson with the award. I'd say theres a very high chance he wouldnt have known whos name was in the envelope and even RTE may not have known and they may have assumed it was a Tipp player. Very harsh assessment on a man who has been the face of the GAA for decades. You'd never even know he was a Galway man with the way he presented when Galway were playing. Top class and sad to see him being forced to retire. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 29/08/2018 08:49:08 2137312 Link 4 |
A top notch presenter in my opinion. Always seemed to carry out his job with ease and little fuss. Able to handle the likes of Spillane and Brolly no bother, best wishes on his retirement. KY4SAM2015 (Kerry) - Posts: 898 - 29/08/2018 13:58:44 2137395 Link 0 |

I wish Michael well in his retirement, hard to believe that Sunday will be his last time presenting the SG. He was always pleasant and knowledgeable, about GAA matters. He was part of the Sunday Game since it was first broadcast, seems like part of our lives. thelongridge (Offaly) - Posts: 1879 - 29/08/2018 16:51:21 2137462 Link 0 |

Always thought he was an utter professional and never let his allegiance be seen on the show towards Galway. Dubh_linn (Dublin) - Posts: 2313 - 29/08/2018 18:02:04 2137485 Link 0 |
I can't believe that there is still people going on on over Gleeson getting HOTY. Get over it and leave this brilliant young hurler alone. He has been injured since and now is getting over that. Showing the gem he is in club hurling. Three line balls and three points last week. Joe Canning went through injury problems for awhile but eventually was able to show how special he is. Austin will prove the same in the years ahead. Michael Lyster has been a star among presenters and all the best to him in retirement. Best of luck in his retirement but will be good to have a new host who might offer more as a host always felt he was very old school. New "more modern" host would be good to see DonaldDuck (Tipperary) - Posts: 544 - 29/08/2018 20:09:32 2137521 Link 0 |
Ya you are missing something alright. I was not the one to bring someone else into the conversation. Also made sure to address the topic of Michael Lester. Try and do your best to understand what is posted and by whom within the context that a reply is made.

Long life, good health and happiness to Micheal Lyster. Grew up watching him present GAA coverage on the telly from the time I first took an interest. He always came across as a really decent and pleasant man, jovial and never can remember him having a bad word to say about anyone. It's a pity RTE are letting him go but i wouldn't be surprised to see him pop up on Newstalk or somewhere else. Thanks for the memories Micheal, stay healthy. kildare73 (Kildare) - Posts: 854 - 30/08/2018 13:02:24 2137651 Link 1 |
If anyone listens or looks back on Michael Lyster's exit interview, well the way I read into it was he clearly didn't want to go, legally he didn't have to retire but he did, he was an honourable man and he will be sadly missed, so I wish him well, good health and happiness from here on in. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 3179 - 30/08/2018 15:17:42 2137688 Link 1 |
I think he is poor when it comes to hurling.
