All Ireland Final 18 - Dublin V Tyrone

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Listen Wayno stop being honest and just pat them on the head instead... use a few aul platitudes and a few "ah sures" and lob in a "sure anything could happen"

Wayno is perfectly entitled to express his honest opinion not just play to the crowd on here!

I personally think Tyrone will give a very good account of themselves and are in the final on merit..

Even though they already lost 2 games!! ;)

Nah.. ah sure anything could happen on the day and Dublin might think it's already won and take Tyrone for granted.

The reality is that there probably won't be any serious challenge to this Dublin team for a couple of years to come. They have a flawless system, and can adapt to whatever is put in front of them. This reality may not sit well with some fantasists on here, but I certainly don't see any team that is anywhere close to them.

The points lost on you jimbo. And you know what it is.And besides, wayno is entitled to say whatever the hell he wants on here but it doesn't mean we all have to like it. I'm not even talking about anything Tyrone related. It permeates most of his posts now, this complete arrogance. We remember you when you were crying into your rice crispies wayno :)

Mayo? Can they bounce back? The talent is there and will a few older heads have one more roll of the dice? Those Dublin v Mayo games will go down in history. Two teams going toe to toe hammer and tongs with the bare minimum between them in 13, 16 and 17. We were blessed to have witnessed such great games and two unreal teams. I think Dublin will beat Tyrone with a bit to spare. That's not arrogance, it's my opinion. I'm always wary of giving predictions. I predicted that we would lose the 14 semi but was still devastated when it happened. There was real nasty anti-Dublin bile spouted on here after it as well. That loss proved a lot of people wrong at the time. We were not invincible but it was the making of the current Dublin team. I think this will be an interesting final but I long for those toe to toe battles with Mayo. Great games.

Tyrone heading up to Dublin to make up the numbers.
Well some team has to play Dublin in the final.. They'll be all dressed to the nines and swagger around Croker....
They've got a cockiness about them again like they know what they're about.
They've the determination of a bull.
The skin of a rhinoserous...
And anybody that is foolish enough to believe that this Tyrone team is done then I suggest that you think again.
The chat in monaghan all last week was... Sure what have Tyrone got?
Nothing...
Well at 5pm yesterday evening we suddenly realised that they had one over us..
They were like bees round a honey pot.
They just wouldn't go away.
A torment.
Good luck to them in the final.

Replying To The_Fridge:  "Cheers for letting us know you have a conference in Miami. You will be sorely missed at the all Ireland. Even though you don't attend Tyrone matches as you have said before.
You still want Micky Harte out? You were the main cheerleader for a while."
Well somebody clearly didn't read my post or any of my previous posts for that matter.

I freely admit that I have been extremely critical of our management team over the years which i am not ashamed of. We have been playing an ugly and unproductive type of football for years and I will always call out anybody who trys to defend it.

And what has happened when we actually started expressing ourselves and attacking the game?? We got to an All Ireland final that's what!

But guys like you who go on the ultra defensive as soon as you hear even the slightest criticism of Mickey Harte are not doing anybody any favours, and what's more, you will never admit that you were wrong.

Anyway I am sick going over the same old arguments with you, I need to go and get ready for a meeting which I have first thing in the morning.

Enjoy your day out in Dublin and hopefully at the end of it we both have something to be happy about.

Writtten off in all quarters; given no chance by the bookies; scraped past a Monaghan team who have been good for the past few years and reached their peak this year and not given enough respect by many pundits; heading into this final in a perfect storm; Tyrone will give this one hell of a rattle; Dubs can rest on their laurels at their peril; let's go hammer and tongs for 70+ mins and maybe just sneak one; Tyrone Abu; come on lads bring it on

Replying To Kurt_Angle:  "It's not a new tactic. Tyrone did the same thing against Dublin in Omagh. Its not strictly illegal either (though the rule is open to interpretation). The only mistake they made was on one occasion, the player running across the ball waved his hand, which is illegal (rule 4.19) and the ball was brought forward 13m. Dublin are well aware of this tactic and I'd imagine they've considered this in training."
Didn't know that it wasn't illegal, but a few posters have pointed it out.

To deliberately start running in a kickers line of vision when they begin their run up is very offputting and unsporting. Would hate to see a kicker miss a free over it.

When it comes to the final we can go go with the evidence, which over last few years leads to one outcome a Dublin win , as someone old enough to remember Seamus Darby's goal live there is no such thing in sport as a sure thing , I've seen Liverpool lose two nil to Arsenal last day of the season to lose a league title , I've seen mike Tyson's first defeat ,seen istabraq get beat , Leicester win a premiership and an Irishman win a gymnastics gold on a pommel horse , anything is possible on any given Sunday anything can happen which is why I may be confident now but as the game gets closer nerves will creep in, majority of Dublin fans will respect Tyrone , the difference is a few years ago we feared them that's what happens when you've had your arse handed to you .

Tyrone must win this game if Gaelic football has any future on this island. Another steamroll Dublin title will be a further nail driven into football's coffin. At last the penny is starting to drop with certain journalists and commentators that Dublin's annual coronation and dominance is destroying the game and interest in it. A Dublin semi final with the ground a third empty has shocked some GAA people but many of us have been warning for a while that interest was waning and now it appears that the Dubs themselves are bored. So for the greater good come on Tyrone!

I'll go against the grain and the rest of the country as no one is realistically giving us a hope, and say Tyrone will win the All-Ireland. Why? A number of reasons, nobody is giving us a chance, Mickey Harte has been there done that, we have the players, all things come to an end, and I believe we are good enough to do it, I'm sure the players feel the same way otherwise we might as well give Sam to Dublin now and tell them not to bother playing the match as they were going to win anyway! I could look like a complete fool, but so what if I do, I'm a proud Tyrone man and believe we can do it we aren't going to the final to look around us we're going there to win! Up Tyrone!

Replying To seanie_boy:  "Its still arrogance though, and it's simply based on this being a brilliant Dublin team at present,no arguments here. I see another poster taking issue with your opinion on here and there was another thread lately where I took exception to your postings of late but you didn't reply. I pointed out then that I've been on here long enough to remember you as a young Dublin poster longing for Dublin to make it back to the top. Many other posters on here would comfort you when Dublin fell short again and tell you that it will be Dublin's turn again soon. Now that has all happened and as Dublin's success grows so to does your ego and arrogance. Simple as that really. Everybody on here sees it and only a few of your fellow dubs are goin to play it down as anything other than arrogance. A touch of humility would go well with the bravado sometimes, just my opinion."
If you want to address anything i said and argue the points i made in reply to gameof2halves (i think) then do so. Dont turn this into a thread about me.

Replying To Game2Halves:  "What can you not see about it? Tyrone have the know how, they have the key players to push Dublin to the wire. Who says Tyrone cannot be on the winning side....Its all on the day. Tyrone have not just appeared on the scene, this team has been building this past 4 to 5 years. We have fantastic ball carriers who are composed and intelligent. We have a defensive system that will stand up to any onslaught. We are extremely dangerous on the attack and have a very strong bench of players. We are in the final without really fully clicking and we are unpredictable.....who knows how we will set up against Dublin, what players and what system will be used? Tyrone's decision making and execution in front of goals was poor against Monaghan, but we just need one game where it all comes together and guess what we have one game to go."
Where was this defensive system during the onslaught of Monaghan and Dublin in Healy Park earlier in the season??

I've commented on this on another thread but I'll repeat it here. I think Tyrone have a chance to beat Dublin and here's how I think they can do it.

1. Intensity - Tyrone are supremely conditioned and physical. Possibly the only team along with Mayo that can match Dublin in this regard. They will need to absolutely tear into Dublin with rabid intensity from the beginning. No half-hearted blocking or abdicating responsibility. Every single man, starter and sub coming in must bring it.

2. Efficiency - shot conversion rate must be really high. Additionally, I would take free taking responsibility away from McAliskey. He's a good lad but misses too many. Against Dublin Tyrone must make every chance count.

3. Goals - Tyrone will probably need between 20 and 25 points to beat Dublin. They will not raise this many white flags so goals will be needed. Absolutely clinical finishing will be required. If the option is there to handpass to a team mate to walk it/palm it into the net then it simply must be taken. This is the critical factor for me in any potential Tyrone victory.

As good as Dublin have been at winning tight finals against Mayo recently, they haven't found themselves in a position where they've been shocked by a sudden concession of two quickfire goals to put them 6 or 7 points down for example. Not since 2014 against us anyway. I think it would be very interesting to see how they'd react to a 6 point deficit against a Tyrone team defending their lead as though their lives depended on it.

Now obviously a lot of things would have to happen in Tyrone's favour for the above to unfold but I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility either. Dublin are fantastic champions playing the game at an almost autonomous level now but teams have got to believe they can topple them. If it's one thing that Tyrone boys don't lack is confidence so as much as it pains me to say it as a proud Donegal man - I really hope they can do themselves justice and give us a final befitting the occasion.
