There will be a small crowd for Galway Kerry full stop and even smaller if England are in it. Soccer is the biggest draw in this country when it comes to TV even without Ireland being involved. conordee (Galway) - Posts: 453 - 07/07/2018 21:06:35 2119430 Link 0 |
Not preaching but the biggest sporting event ? This year ? No that happens in September or had you forgotten, I couldn't give a sh7 if Dublin where due or when to play , as for you sly dig I will leave that, I tried responding to your other dig which I found disgusting from a supposed fellow Gael ( Dubs lead with their Knee ) (how many this summer you must be trying to beat a personal best)you have no credibility as you are a one trick pony, a post about New York camogie team losing to London somehow you would turn this about Dublin , it's sad , it's predictable, it's so obvious with someone who has the word BOY in their name, look forward to when we get to talk when you eventually become come kingdomman1

That maybe true , it's a personal choice , it's a priority thing , as a GAA fan and a neutral I can tell you and you only have my word I would be watching Kerry and Galway, Why ? I want to see who two of our biggest opponents have to offer this year

Sorry if my personal choice obviously hits home hence your post , I've missed Dublin games , gone on holidays missed games , have chosen club games over county games , I'm far from the person you describe, you might want to ask yourself some questions as to why you have responded in the way you have , I'm not on this site to promote myself , I post honestly some posts meet with thumbs up others less so, Why does it bother You so much that a Dub would rather watch a top class game of GAA over a soccer game , am I not buying into your stereo type , I have no problem with anyone choosing to watch whatever instead of a game but don't have a go with me for telling you what I will be doing

What on earth are you on about? I think you may have me confused with someone else? Look, like it or not soccer has a massive following in this country and the World Cup final is the biggest event on the global sporting calendar this year. Most GAA fans that I know have at least a passing interest in soccer, and many are fanatics. Id know a couple of Kerry players quite well and they all follow soccer and I'm sure they'd like to see the World Cup final too, I'd imagine the Galway lads are the same. You obviously are not bothered about it but others are. The clash with the World Cup final will hit attendance and will kill neutral interest. Do you think that's fair to the two teams? If England make the final they may as well play Galway vs Kerry behind closed doors. The whole saga is unnecessary and could have been avoided easily, that's what annoys me. Its like they couldn't be bothered to think their way around it. I wasn't trying to have a dig at Dublin btw, but at the same time there is no way in the world the GAA would have done this to the Dublin team and their fans. The GAA are a bit of a shambles in a lot of respects and this type of thing doesn't surprise me in the least. It's just another example of incompetence at the top level in our game. I'm glad they got their arses handed to them over the Newbridge fiasco and I think if England make the WC final on Wednesday the kerry v Galway fixture debate could blow up badly next week and leave the GAA looking very foolish. It'll probably too late to change it then but at least it might encourage them to use a small bit of common sense in future. GeniusGerry (Kerry) - Posts: 2113 - 07/07/2018 23:20:02 2119471 Link 4 |

Hands up. Haven't received a diagnosis yet though. There's going to be lots of us going to the doctor.

No problem I had figured that after. Tbh, I am not a huge soccer fan at all and I'll be going to the match regardless but I would have watched the soccer if it wasn't clashing. I think a lot of neutrals will watch the soccer, particularly if England make it, which is a pity.

I have never agreed with the old quarter-finals being played in Croke Park. I always maintained the provincial champions should have been given home advantage. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8860 - 08/07/2018 12:47:00 2119576 Link 1 |
Agree with you on all counts - maybe the heat is getting to us all, its like trainspotting and arguing over the late arrival of an incoming train.

Ahh but you could make it up (and they do on hear all the time), even when the truth hits em smack in the face their own prejudices/moans/whinges and gripes take priority. What they need is for the heatwave to break, the moaning and whinging on here is at epidemic proportions.

I have yet to watch a World Cup final that wasn't pure unadulterated sh1te. ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1256 - 08/07/2018 22:16:20 2119812 Link 2 |
Agreed. I'll watch the occasional game of soccer, hell, I even help coach a U-10 team. But I find as a spectacle it leaves a lot to be desired. The occasional moment of brilliance lost in 90 minutes of tedium.

To continue my rant about the GAA fixture committee how can they defend not being able to tell us who is playing on what day the weekend after next. I know kerry are in Monaghan but I don't know if it's on Saturday or Sunday. How am I suppose to make travel and accommodation plans? Will watch Kerry Galway and watch final later, probably most on fast forward. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2217 - 09/07/2018 20:54:14 2120182 Link 1 |
The '86 final was class and had Maradona. You might be too young to remember him! Maybe you just don't like soccer though? But fair point, most World Cup finals are a bad watch. The 2010 final was one of the worst, dirtiest games of football ever played. GreenandRed (Mayo) - Posts: 8025 - 09/07/2018 21:22:03 2120191 Link 1 |
Totally agree Gerry. Certainly the dates and times for the second series of games should have been announced today as well as the first series, as nothing will be decided after the first series of games. The games for the bank holiday weekend could be and hopefully will be announced straight after the second series as at least that would allow a 2 week lead-in. jimski (Kildare) - Posts: 381 - 09/07/2018 22:12:36 2120202 Link 1 |
I have a vague recollection of the 86 final, I know Argentina beat West Germany 3-2 so it must have been ok but was too young to really take it in. I do recall the following: 1990 West Germany 1 Argentina 0, Brehme penalty (sh1te match); 1994 Brazil beat Italy on penalties after a 0-0 borefest; 1998 France 3 Brazil 0, no contest; 2002 Brazil 2 Germany 0, handy win for Brazil; 2006 Italy beat France on penalties after 1-1 draw, only thing remembered from that match is Zidane's headbutt; 2010 Spain 1 Netherlands 0, horrific match; 2014 Germany 1 Argentina 0, another boring match. I don't dislike soccer but the World Cup final, specifically, is consistently the biggest anti-climax in world sport. 10 goals in the last 7 finals, three or four of which went to extra time so really it's more like 10 goals in 8 matches. ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1256 - 09/07/2018 22:23:33 2120204 Link 1 |
