Kildare V Mayo

I would love for Kildare to stand their ground on this. Should this mean them been thrown out go the legal root and you would hope other counties and the GPA would boycott the rest of the championship in solidarity with Kildare

If the stalemate continues and Kildare are thrown out of the championship for not playing in Croke Park then it is up to us the GAA supporters to object to bullyboy decisions by the top brass in the GAA. How can we do this? Thousands of GAA people from all over the country turning up in Newbridge not to watch the game but to show solidarity with Kildare, a protest against the way the GAA are running their affairs, we are constantly complaining about things that are happening in our association now is the time to act, get to Newbridge on Saturday to protest against GAA actions

Get a grip.

No point going down the legal route. They will lose. As I pointed out - they are NOT automatically entitled to home venue advantage, it subject to approval of CCC. End of. "I don't like the rule" is not a case.

So boycott the whole championship because of a flawed rule - that's what your statements boil down to when your remove the emotion.

As above - can we get some perspective here !!!!!

Kildare have made a complete mess of this by jumping the gun - using "the rules" to justify their position.

I actually believe the have a "just" position.

However "the rules" - like them or loathe them - state home venue advantage is subject to the approval of the CCC. So they are NOT automatically entitled to home advantage. So before going around shouting the odds about the rules they should have read all of them first not the bit(s) that suited them.

Now backed themselves into a corner whereby they will either look to have "buckled" or are out of the championship.

Only choice, play in Croke Park and try and use to their advantage. Headless stuff. Calmer heads were needed."
Plenty of that going on in this thread too.

You made some excellent points there.

Hope the situation is rectified quickly as Kildare being removed from the championship is not on and the knock on impact would damage the entire competition.

If there was a direct judgment from Gardai and health and safety authorities that the venue was suitable under certain criteria, then once those conditions are adhered to then the GAA's stance from a H&S stand point is not relevant.

It then turns into what many believe to be purely down to finances etc

I'd worry though that CP will not back down and the outcome of that is the removal of Kildare which would be very damaging and that's not what anyone wants.

Will Kildare really want to walk away?

I'd be interested to hear what the Kildare fans think on that.

Could you imagine that.
GAA fans from all over the country who disagree with the GAA's decision, and their bullying attitude in general, turn up at St. Conleths in their respective county Jersies and let Sky show that!

Crikey, if that's the case, I don't think Kildare have a leg to stand on. I thought it was 'a rule' for round3 qualifiers, If it's not 'a rule', and the CCC have the scope to approve and disprove, then Kildare surely need to get their act together, and play the game at the 'approved location'.

Thats not true. That rule applies to Super 8 fixtures. No such stipulation exists for Round 3 qualifiers.

what about the supporters here mainly the Mayo supporters who wont get to the game if its played in Newbridge. Thought the fans came first , they are the ones that pay the money to keep the organisation going

Fair point so on what grounds do you think they re-fixed the game given the following statement from Kildare
GAA
"we had no issue with adhering to the criteria for St Clonleth's Park as previously agreed with the National Facilities /Health and Safety committee"

Given that the above was previously agreed and they came out of the hat first what is the reason? Any barrister worth his salt would tear the CCCC to pieces

You're absolutely right but it just shows how reactionary people can become without standing back and really evaluating the situation.. just looking for an excuse to be outraged and then high giving each other thinking their "spot on"

There's a fierce rabble rousing mentality on here at times

Still hope it works out for Kildare and they can compete but everyone losing their crap isn't helping and it's funny watching all the keyboard warriors calling for strikes...

what about the fans who cant get a ticket to the All Ireland final when its sold to Stadia capacity? Should we consider moving game to Nou Camp which can hold more?

r6.28(A) (v) (2): "Home Venues SHALL be used in Rounds 1, 2 and 3 of the All-Ireland Qualifier Series, with first Team drawn having Home Advantage" and only exception is "Venues for Rd 4 shall be determined by CCCC"

There is NO stipulation that the CCCC can determine venue for Rounds 1-3. None. The rule is quite clear.

Well said here

Think O'Neill May have made another daft managerial call to back up quite a few to date.

"John Maughan feels that Kildare's negotiating tactics over the venue for their SF Qualifier against Mayo leave a lot to be desired.

The CCCC relieved the Lilywhites of home advantage and fixed Saturday night's game for Croke Park, with Kildare boss Cian O'Neill insisting that his team will not play anywhere else other than Newbridge.

"Kildare have backed themselves into a corner, this should have been dealt with behind closed doors. There should have been some sort of an arrangement, but coming out publicly as Cian O'Neill did yesterday and Kildare management did saying it is St Conleth's Park or nowhere, I don't think that is helpful and what we have now is a very, very entrenched situation," former Mayo manager Maughan stated RTE Radio.

"You will not hear a comment form Mayo because why would they get involved here but it is a position where nobody wants to be. It is very unfortunate."

Mayo, with two key men out injured, are not at full strength. Kildare should be focussing on capitalising on that and trying to win the game, instead of this sideshow stuff. After all, Kildare to Croke Park is a lot handier than Mayo to Croke Park. And isn't the fact that Dublin play their 'home' games in Croke Park generally seen as an unfair advantage? Most managers are delighted to get an extra game in Croke Park. If I was Mayo, I'd smell fear here. And giving up a home game hasn't seemed to have been an issue for Cavan.

The Gaa have created this mess with there season tickets, Dublin and Mayo have fantastic support but were the fault lies is with your entitled to a ticket every championship game, it should only be your home game not away as county grounds all over Ireland don't have the capacity.
people coming on here saying get your house in order really? why have grounds with huge capacities when they will hardly every be full. Change the season ticket option this will clear it up and if your playing away give them 10/20% of capacity and if your lucky enough to get one then great.
Would the leinster final have been better off played in tullamore full house and great atmosphere? rather than a half empty stadium.

I can't see this ending well for kildare unfortunately as tickets have been sold unless the whole Gaa community come together and county boards come out in support.

Replying To Pericles:  "What you're insinuating Manstein is that Mayo got the game moved. In order for that to happen the county board's clout with the national organisation would need to have been transformed since 2014, when they couldn't manage to get the AI semi-final moved away from Kerry's doorstep, even though there were other potential options (other dates). I doubt either Kildare or Mayo were consulted before the decision was made and announced, and probably not Tyrone or Cavan either. Informed yes, consulted, not likely. This also makes this debacle different from the Connacht final, since there was no attempt by the provincial board to publicly dictate to Roscommon. What's of greater relevance is the fact that Newbridge provides a very poor stage for camera placement, whereas Croker Park (and Hyde Park for that matter) doesn't. A game from Conleth's would be plain bad telly, below the standard that Sky requires. Every other reason is pretty much secondary (tickets, toilets, whatever you're having!)."
What would be wrong with a packed St Conleths ? Look bad on TV ? Have you watched some of the rubbish games and grounds that Sky show when they are broadcasting some of the lower-league soccer and rugby matches in England ?
