Have to feel sorry for McBrearty. Great player. Huge problem for Donegal now! oakleafersir (Derry) - Posts: 808 - 26/06/2018 14:39:12 2115421 Link 0 |
Tyrone are at the top table, must be a big table going on last years form.

The question now becomes who do we replace him with? Obviously massive shoes to fill. We have a lot of quality half forwards and backs in reserve. Guys like O'Baoíll, O'Reilly, Mulligan, Anthony Thompson, Mark McHugh, Niall O'Donnell, Paddys brother Stephen! etc etc But pure inside men with Paddy's ball winning and finishing ability are very thin on the ground obviously. Still can't believe the news this morning. Terrible loss but we have to replace him. It's one position we're short on. Jigger seems to be our only natural inside man but can't see Bonner starting him against Dublin. Young Stephen could be an option but he's really a half forward. I think he'll plump with young Niall o Donnell fabulous player but maybe a year to early for him.

The guy is irreplaceable but you're right, we don't have any real pure inside men who can win clean ball like he he does. I suppose the options are - Cian Mulligan and then alternate with different players inside. Langan, Murphy and Ciaran Thompson could all play inside at some stage as well. Langan can do serious damage inside and Thompson has done OK inside when I've seen him play there. -Stephen McBrearty, with the same plan of alternating between the players inside. -Niall O Donnell. Not sure what his situation is since the U-20's went out but I assume he's still part of the squad. The problem is that all these players are natural half forwards. Same goes for O Reilly (if fit) ,Mark McHugh, O Baoil, etc. I would probably start with Stephen to be honest and keep Mulligan as an impact sub which he's done to great affect this year. On another note, was great to see Ciaran Gillespie back on the bench on Sunday. Everyone was saying he was out for the year. Good competition for places at the back with Anthony back fit again as well. HandballRef (Donegal) - Posts: 523 - 26/06/2018 16:02:12 2115471 Link 0 |
Terrible news for Paddy. Great player. Definitely lessens our chances of success but we can't get too negative. It's a team sport. Donegal_abroad (Donegal) - Posts: 1424 - 26/06/2018 16:26:42 2115487 Link 1 |

Very disappointed to hear of Paddy McBrearty's injury, huge loss for Donegal and a loss to the championship as well the way he was playing. Thankfully many players make a full recovery from that injury these days and he has youth on his side. Wishing him a speedy recovery. Sorry for any player who picks up such an injury. Hopefully he makes a full recovery. His loss to Donegal will be felt but they must not allow it to undermine their confidence or it will become a disaster. They have a lot of good young forwards who may grow into great players given game-time and responsibility. neverright (Roscommon) - Posts: 1648 - 26/06/2018 17:25:04 2115526 Link 1 |
so we are a tier below you even though you lost to a team that lost to a team that lost to us. ok.

Absolute hammer blow for McBrearty was a shoe in for an all star, was very nervous about Donegal in a couple of weeks without paddy who is always good for 5 to 6 pts Dublin should have enough. jacktheDub (Dublin) - Posts: 944 - 26/06/2018 18:12:11 2115546 Link 0 |
In all honesty I think cacks tounge was firmly embedded in his cheek but a good response all the same.

True, as far as I remember Mayo may have got a few crumbs from that top table last year the same as ourselves and this year's no different. Don't see any difference between us or at least 5 or 6 other teams as far as being at the top tables concerned

Nothing wrong with our forwards in the semi-final last year or indeed in Healy park during the league as far as I remember

Tyrone are not at the top table, they are not even at the bottom table. Truth is they are sitting outside on the steps eating cold chips out of a Supermacs box.

Mayo have been just behind Dublin last 2 years, the only team to test them. And Tyrone got absolutely destroyed by Dublin yet you say there was no difference between the 2. I loved the Tyrone teams of the noughties but some of their supporters seem to rate them a lot higher than everybody else.

Donegal suddenly became some team since winning Ulster looking down from the top table at the rest of us eating our cold chips, some supporters lose the run of themselves! Must be the heat
