I quite enjoyed it to be honest, wasn't one for the ages but it was a tense parochial provincal game and was never going to be any different, reminded me of the Dublin and Meath games of old. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4517 - 13/05/2018 19:31:08 2100127 Link 0 |
Easy to criticize the game today but players do not want to give away possession cheaply, Galway were the better team and will improve. The time period you mention was when Galway won no Connacht titles btw. Roscommon are still favourites to win it. Mayo have a long road ahead.

Reggie from Kent wouldn't have been watching anyway. He was watching his soccer team today - Manchester United.

What a dire bloody mess they have made of the grand old game of Gaelic Football. Barnowl94 (Galway) - Posts: 3150 - 13/05/2018 19:50:55 2100144 Link 0 |
Meant to say, really wish Tom Parsons a positive outcome to his injury and a speedy recovery, he looked in awful pain, horrible to see. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4517 - 13/05/2018 20:03:52 2100151 Link 1 |

RTE please do not show a hurling match before football again dreadful game, the hurling wasnt great but just to sit and watch it and excitement it brings and then to watch a half decent game of football where both teams are supposed to challenge for an all ireland? judging by today i dont think so. The most important thing from today is that tom parsons makes a speedy recovery looked a horrible injury mrsme (USA) - Posts: 172 - 13/05/2018 20:11:05 2100159 Link 0 |
Congratulations to the Galway hurlers and footballers this weekend, always great to get off to a winning start in the Championship. Reference the footballers...not an easy match on the eyes to watch but effective and got the win they wanted along with a 8th clean sheet in 9 competitive matches this year.

Didn't realise Tom parsons injury was as serious as that. Wishing him a speedy recovery, a terrific player that will be sorely missed by Mayo. GeniusGerry (Kerry) - Posts: 2113 - 13/05/2018 20:28:52 2100173 Link 0 |

Too many snobby punters using Gaelic football to signal that they have better taste than everybody else. Some of them are old men on a nostalgia trip. Some are D4-heads who can't stand the GAA - Ireland has plenty of those (not confined to D4 any more). Anyway, we've got your point - Gaelic football is awful, ye're wonderful, away and practice your accents. Game was good in parts. Mayo will improve massively; remember how poor they were early stages last year. Good experience for Galway too. Both teams last 4. Parsons injury could be an absence too far for Mayo in terms of an outright win though. essmac (Tyrone) - Posts: 1141 - 13/05/2018 20:30:44 2100176 Link 1 |
It was poor stuff and you'd expect better from these two teams. Sides are set up now with the priority in not losing and the spontaneity and flair has gone from the game. You can't keep blaming Ulster sides for this. Dublin and Kerry are now masters at it. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9818 - 13/05/2018 20:31:35 2100179 Link 1 |
Will people stop comparing it to hurling. Often fans watch games for intrigue. Game today was not great no issue with that but I would rather have a system in place than getting cut open like we did against Tipp two years ago. Sport is not romance. And hurling while a better game has had a few boring championships in my time watching sport.

Irony is a lot of big games this year between evenly matched teams including your own versus Tyrone are likely to be dour affairs. Fear of losing is a factor. With us KW is definitely making progress and Mayo were gung ho to go through the front door this year from my sources so some credit should be given to Galway given where we were a few yrs ago.

Congratulations to Galway today it was a great result, I really thought Mayo would win this game by 6/7 points but I was wrong. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 13/05/2018 20:44:22 2100187 Link 0 |

Judge the game on its merits , it was poor at best , poor skill set on display , athletes playing in straight jackets , not good to watch regardless of who was playing , things can and will get better Damothedub (Dublin) - Posts: 5193 - 13/05/2018 20:52:40 2100193 Link 0 |
