I don't know if it has already been mentioned on the thread but credit to the county board PRO team on the programme they put together for the games at the weekend. For only €2 it included a full list of players from each team (squad numbers etc) in the senior grade and some in the inter. Never seen it done before so well done to all involved.

Replying To Toney:  "Early days yet but I will agree with your sentiments on the two East Meath neighbours Summerhill and Na Fianna. Summerhill are like a racehorse - they will get better as the ground hardens up! Lots of young talented players coming through the ranks which Kells are a bit further than the road with. Na Fianna have nice young forwards like Shane Walsh who is an exciting prospect for Meath - he didn't play yesterday. Players like Ollie Lewis, Dolly McDonagh, Dean Henrick and the two older Queeney brothers aren't easily replaced. I know Jamie is out injured but still they will struggle for the next couple of years."
Absolutly re Na Fianna , It is a matter of them holding on to their senior ranks now and should be competing in 3 or 4 years time as have had good minor teams over last few years but will need a proper management structure in place to guide them through this period . Summerhill have better older players than Na Fianna at moment and wlll contest maybe a quarter final stage this year as year goes on. Based on yesterday Both Kells & NOM look contenders now and are a level above both the other two .

Replying To Awhweff:  "The referee committee have a major problem on der hands
I was at 1 championship match this weekend and the ref turned up with no umpires or linesman
3 from each club had to do the jobs
A disgrace actually for championship
Another championship game I went to look at there was enuf grass on the pitch to sort out the fodder crisis for the farmers in county Meath
A joke"
They really need to expand the net and look wherever they can for new referees. Neighbouring Counties could be a strong possibility.
At the match I was at the referee let everything go putting the players at risk. ( I know oldtimers with no concern for player welfare who only want to enjoy people taking hits like this)
Then for the last 10 minutes took a dislike for one of the teams and kept blowing them in the scoring zone even when it was them who earned the free.
Really not good enough at senior level where the players all put in such a big effort.

Were you at the Ratoath game by any chance?

Another year of flattering to deceive for Trim in both codes? According to the their report Bracks set up with a well organised defensive system and played with 13-14 men behind the ball but still got lots of chances to win the game.

Yes a lot complain when something is wrong and I think the issue of a programme last year so good to see the county board came up with a solution this year.

Very good initiative, would be great to see it rolled out across the intermediate grade also, and crucial that teams stick to the numbers.

While I didn't get to game. I was extremely happy with the result, :) also from what I've read /heard bracks didn't allow trim to score due to very good defensive system. All in all a great start to campaign.

Replying To pauk123:  "Good summary. I was also at the Ratoath vs Pats and Skryne vs Curraha games as well as Dunboyne Vs Blackhall. I wouldn't argue with much of your summary of both games.

Blackhall did well enough to scrap and keep it respectable against a superior Dunboyne team. I thought Blackhall would definitely go down but after today I think they should be OK. Dunboyne always seem to be mentally fragile when it really counts, too many blowins? Maybe similar to Ratoaths lack of leadership? Rotoath had it in the bag but switched off.

The county team, unfortunately, has many of the same issues. Lots of players from both teams on the panel."
Just how many blow ins do you think we have in Dunboyne.?? And no matter how many of those so called blow ins we have is irrelevant. Our fragility issues were there long before any of them arrived. P.S it's one blow in btw.

Job done indeed for Brackey but it was painful to watch and it's sad to see Meath clubs playing this way. The last 15minutes was the worst championship football I've witnessed in manys a year.

Had expected to see the 2nd round fixtures come out by now. Does anyone know anything about them. I know the planner has them down for the weekend of the 21st. Teams would need to know to be able to play their schedule for next week.

BTW was great to get the first round fixtures so early. Was hoping that the same could have been followed for the 2nd.

taught they might have met last night with the the county board meeting being on.

It is a thankless task trying to organise all the fixtures and have to say they did handle the weekend well, getting as many games played as possible which means most if not all of the 2nd team matches can go ahead this weekend as a result.

I agree with you and add that there were some very good football on display with intensity, with little of this hand passing back ways and sideways, which reminds me of watching paint dry.

East Meath am I reading you wrong

I would say Na fIANNA and Summerhill are as about South Meath as possible

Na Fianna purple patch days are gone for a few years and with Summerhill underage are not like they were a few years ago add in the loss of Richie Hatton who has retired and Brian Ennis transferred out will severely hamper their chances, they where two major players

So Robbie McCarthy and Stuart Lowndes (to name just 2) have played all their underage with Dunboyne!?

It is true the mentality seems to have been weak for sometime. I assume you are involved in the club, do you have any theory why when the rubber meets the road the team folds, repeatedly?
I worry about it because this is an issue that seems to affect D/A and Ratoath (although they are still a very young team) too, talent not matching results. The 3 teams make up major parts of the county set up and the mental frailness exhibited by these teams seems to translate.

Not involved in the club anymore but I go to all the games and it's hard to put ur finger on it but obviously just a mental fragility there. Re the blow ins I'll give u robbie Mccarthy and maybe our opinions differ on this but the lowdnes brothers no they didn't play underage for Dunboyne I accept that but all their family on their fathers side are Dunboyne thru and thru. The lads dad grew up and lived in Dunboyne until he moved up to blanch and the rest of the family still live here and have been supporters and regulars at the games for years so in my opinion they've plenty of Dunboyne in their blood to not be tagged as blow ins. That's only my opinion of course maybe I'm way off.
