again when they were looking grants they were extremely eager for the ladies football and camogie to sign up and sign letters of intent and support they certainly didn't say at that stage oh by the way garvaghey will be run as a business and you will be liable for higher costs than other facilities charge plus vat so are you still willing to support us. as I've said earlier there is enough room up there yet at times even the county hurlers have been shut out, not hearsay but fact even though the venue was block booked for the county team, and even when they were using it the lights were kept off to the last minute and switched off as soon as soon as the manager or ref blew the whistle leaving players scrambling in the dark to get gear etc. Yes it is a good facility but the attitude of some people involved around the place is debatable. What will the costs not be next year when the predicted/reported £100k+ extra maintenance costs to county committee be and then the funding needed for the planned indoor arena will they still be looking the lgfa/camogie signatures to secure gov monies?

Was at it once which was enough to form the opinion that it's a windy spot you don't have to put down my county because of a slight criticism of your training facility's location but while we are comparing: your team is currently better your training facilities are better our county ground is better our county is more successful kanu (Cavan) - Posts: 181 - 14/12/2017 22:07:36 2065211 Link 2 |
I think it is you that is missing the point, there are very few LGFA only clubs in the entire country - Foxrock Cabinteely being probably the biggest. The fact is all LGFA players are GAA members by virtue of GAA club membership end of no argument. They are an affliated organisation and share national and local sponsorships with the GAA, AIG in Dublin and Liberty Insurance re: GAA Hurling and Camogie Association of Ireland, they also share Referees and Garda vetting databases. You can be sure and certain when the GAA was looking for grants/loans etc etc the woman would have been used in the hard sell to get this funding. The fact they are NOT under the full control of the GAA seems to be the reason for charging them more.

That's not true arock .......the LGFA is a separate organisation and are very resistant to integration, they want their 'independence' but then expect the GAA to pick up the tab for things and give our facilities free of charge, sorry it doesn't work like that........they don't want to be part of the GAA then that's fine but then don't moan when they don't get the same treatment as actual GAA members Camoige is far more integrated into the GAA and are happy to play their part in clubs up and down the country.....ladies football seem intent at both club and county level of driving their own agenda but expecting perferiental treatment from GAA, a lot of people in the GAA getting increasingly p@ssed off with their arrogance PaudieSull1 (Down) - Posts: 738 - 16/12/2017 15:13:18 2065347 Link 0 |
have to agree paudisull1: a lot of lgfa teams even though they are club members seem to have an arrogance and swagger about their worth and can be a very divisive within clubs and its matters and use of facilities, even though the ladies in clubs are fantastic when fundraising and volunteering and other chores around the place and are usually at the front of the queue for help, this unwillingness to fully integrate and intrigues me when clubs have amalgamated camogie, hurling, lgfa, and handball, under 1 club umbrella for the purpose of affiliation and accreditation for club Maith or the equivalent sports council award which again is done for the purposes of attaining government grants. The whole thing is a mess that only the lgfa hierarchy can answer and maybe the negative publicity that the headline of £13k+ will bring them to their senses. On aside note, do they pay mates rates for the use of croke park for their games or do they pay the outsiders rates. Only asking because if they are paying the going rate then fine no argument, or a subsidised rate then it should/could be reciprocated by county finance committees.

bulmccabe (Tyrone) -ah but we have to respect our ladies/women/girls who are entitled to play- don't forget that everyone who plays GAA has a mother! Most of the ladies/girls who play are from families who have supported the GAA all their lives and made it possible for the boys and men to go out and play. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 17/12/2017 13:35:09 2065411 Link 0 |
