Well lads championship is finally here. Really looking forward to this new format. So much top quality games coming up which will generate more interest in the game . Team is as expected. Agree with most posters with we should go with a third midfielder tomorrow instead of a midfielder. Similar to the Waterford league game stick dee as a third midfielder and shaun Murphy to wing back. I would be surprised if we matched them going 6 backs with a sweeper on 5 forwards . Expect Rory O to push out to center forward and either Chin or Aidan Nolan to midfield. Really good options on the bench now. Solid options in the backs while David Dunne , Cathal Dunbar and Harry Kehoe can come in and make and change the game for us . Great to see Tomkins back in the squad . Think he will have a big role to play this summer. Hoping big crowd in the park tomorrow. This game holds the key to our season. Win and we're looking at a AI quarter final at the very least. This would set us up for the rest of the year to go on and try go on to reach another Leinster final . Our lads know Dublin will bring a huge performance after last weekend but I expect a big reaction following our poor performance in the league semi final . I think Dublin will bring huge intensity to this but the loss of Keaney is huge and I expect us to have enough to get our season up and running. I like the look of our team lads and bench strong as well (liam og to come back onto bench at some point in the year). Tomorrow should be interesting.it really is a vital game for us.win and the same against offaly and we one step closer to quarter final slot with a crack at the big two for Leinster spot.lose and we're in a bit of bother.best of luck to the team and management and let hope the park is hopping by 3 tommorrow. hunting (Wexford) - Posts: 1150 - 19/05/2018 09:25:08 2102094 Link 1 |
Is Keaney's 'omission' a stroke by Dublin? Merely asking the question... Sliotharyslope (Wexford) - Posts: 138 - 19/05/2018 09:30:58 2102097 Link 0 |

Team is pretty much as we though.. I think the bench looks a bit stronger.. on the Liam og situation don't expect miracles when he comes back he had had 2 hip ops and 2 cruciates wil take him along time to get back up to intercounty standard gannett83 (Wexford) - Posts: 322 - 19/05/2018 12:28:12 2102116 Link 0 |
Minor Hurlers hammered by kk. When are we going to learn? Can we not put an experienced management team together and let them manage the minor Hurlers. What's Liam Dunne doing these days? logger (Wexford) - Posts: 308 - 19/05/2018 19:45:55 2102175 Link 0 |
He had a very unsuccessful go at minor already. I know some of the players and they are fairly complementary of the set up to be fair to the lads over them. Not sure what makes you say Liam Dunne would be an improvement. Best of luck to the team tomorrow. Team was fairly straight forward to pick and i think this may well be our best 15 at the moment and should do the business. hurler101 (Wexford) - Posts: 471 - 19/05/2018 20:14:26 2102179 Link 0 |

Great result! Lads showed character and hungeragainst a good Dublin team that had a game played already! Bar the soft goals conceded we were comfortably the better team. Sean Murphy and Dee much improved on their league form as was Matthew O Hanlon. Hope Mac isn't injured. Roll on Tullamore! Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 16685 - 20/05/2018 18:42:39 2102343 Link 0 |
Massive result a loss or draw would have put us in serious bother, Dublin didn't create any real goal chances both goals were gift rapped from us. Mixed bag of a performance, Full back line really hurled well reck was immense and Ryan really negated rushe, Murphy gave 1 of his best displays of the year. Taught Nolan and Foley done well at midfield and Rory o'connor showed unbelievable bottle from frees and his monster point. Chin and McDonald weren't themselves at all today we need them on form if we have aspirations of making a leinster final, they're both well capable of it.generally our forwards didn't have a big impact today. We need to be ruthless next week and show no complacency, it's a game we should be winning comfortably but if our standards drop we could create a banana skin for ourselves. With the games 4 weeks in a row I would make 1 or 2 changes next week just to freshen things up bostonredsox (Wexford) - Posts: 4368 - 20/05/2018 19:25:38 2102362 Link 0 |
Very good result. I was apprehensive about this game approaching today and in the last ten minutes for obvious reasons but the lads dug deep and showed their trademark qualities at the end. It was disappointing in the second half to surrender a good lead and the goals conceded were sloppy. On the plus side good to see an improved performance from Shaun Murphy and exhibition in free taking from a player as young as Rory O'Connor is. All the best for Tullamore next week lads. We got over the line today, as posted earlier thought Shaun Murphy was very good today and Reck was the pick of the backs despite making the mistake for 1st goal. Ryan held Rushe and Paudie Foley held Suthcliff . Nolan and K Foley done ok and battled hard. Our forwards are a real worry though, Morris and Chin have been so poor all year and their form is really worrying, McDonald was poor today and couldn't get into the game. Jack o Connor was ok today but is a limited forward. If they don't improve and cut out the numerous mistakes we could get badly beaten by Galway or KK. Wides are mounting every day, Dee o Keeffe must of hit 5 of these wides. We created a couple of goal chances and hit none of them, would this be good enough for Galway or Kilkenny, don't think so, Tullamore could be a banana skin next weekend. Jesus lads my nerves I thought it was gone.. fair play to the lads they showed great bottle in fairness and didn't panic... thought they weee sloppy at times especially for the 2nd goal also fanning was for the 65 he gave away and a sloppy puck out in jury time..thought paudie Foley's point in the first half where they worked it up along the sideline was one of the best scores ever in Wexford park... on next week take nothing for Granted I can Garentee we won't get anything easy question is does he change a few knowing that Galway is coming the week after.. I would look at starting dunne and Dunbar and maybe Tomkins gannett83 (Wexford) - Posts: 322 - 20/05/2018 20:09:21 2102381 Link 0 |
Was extremely disappointed with today's performance to be honest. Great start to the game. Dominated absolutely everything from the start right up to 60 minutes but couldn't make the scoreboard reflect it. Chin just constantly ran into trouble. What a finish. Brilliant. Sean Murphy was excellent today. Rory o Connor was the best forward by a mile and his free taking was as good as anybody today. What a final point from him- pure class. Yellow (Wexford) - Posts: 589 - 20/05/2018 20:55:57 2102416 Link 0 |
The three players you suggested shouldn't start next week are fine hurlers but all three did look out of sorts yesterday. However, I think it's crucial that they start next week to give them a chance to proof yesterdays individual performance wasn't their true form. We badly need those players playing well if we are to get anything out of this round Robin system. I agree we have to involve the panel and one or two other players should be given a start and then depending on how the game is going, changes can be made to give other players on the panel game time. There were calls on here for Dee O to be dropped after a few mediocre league performances but he proved his class and suberb hurling qualities yesterday.

I dont know what some people here are looking out this year but Mac has been poor all season. He had one good game so far. I think Dunbarr or Dunne deserve a chance on Saturday. For those of you saying its hard for the forwards it is with the system, but he got good ball yesterday and didnt win any of it. I would love to see Conor Mac playing well but I think for the Offaly game, a change is necessary. alwaysasub (Wexford) - Posts: 500 - 21/05/2018 08:47:41 2102513 Link 0 |
Great result yesterday. Shame we couldnt put them away midway through the second half. We need to seriously cut down on the wides and learn how to finish goal chances. We probably learned a lot more about ourselves yesterday with the way the game went. Had wexford just pulled away it would have been nicer on the heart but after yesterday they will realise how much more clinical they will need to be. Massive game this week and the players dont seem to be taking it for granted thank god. I do agree with people on here suggesting we should give some other players a run in this game. Maybe start dunbar or dunne and see how they get on. Sloppy at times but we must be thrilled with our first victory over dublim in a decade. Gilroy said dublin didnt bring the same intensity as last weekend. I think its more a case of dublin meeting stronger men yesterday.
