Not a thing wrong with the weather but do you really think its fair on the county football team to give them one weekend with their players before they play championship??? Last weekend was never going to be a club weekend regardless of where the hurlers were so you may stop banging that drum! The fact is April as club only will never work if championship starts in early may at county level, it was an ill thought out idea trying to appease clearly and rightfully pissed off clubs. A lot of poorly thought out changes have been made recently and are not helping our games or players!! Just take this U20 championship in wexford. Pointless seeding games until county team is out. Then its every second week with adult hurling and football and now throw in U20 games for lads too because the knock outs start after co team exits. There are more issues than ever and the changes have fuelled the fire. Croke park didnt even realise that U20 Football in may was a bad idea as many players dont leave school until 19 due to ty, wex have 9 lc students involved. That will tell you the thinking going into top table decisions!! Its non existent!! The club situation needs thought and careful planning. Wexford got 3 rounds in, many counties got none played!! We arent as bad as many counties but the change needs to come from croke park! hurler101 (Wexford) - Posts: 471 - 01/05/2018 16:20:30 2096034 Link 0 |
Any update on how week in Portugal went lads? How are injuries coming along? Afinestick (Wexford) - Posts: 999 - 01/05/2018 19:18:10 2096072 Link 0 |
but everybody else was playing last weekend change comes from within not from croke park.i i am a dual supporter, but I see first and foremost the disillusionment in our clubs.the club's are our lifeblood, without them we have nothing.i put our clubs ahead of both county teams, unfortunately the tail is wagging the dog perfect10 (Wexford) - Posts: 3929 - 01/05/2018 22:23:30 2096122 Link 0 |
exactly, the whole Guiney thing is becoming a sideshow and a serious distraction nearly every second year now....he was virtually anonymous in the leinster final and waterford game last summer. lets concentrate on the players who want to be there

What do you mean everyone else was playing?

Well said hurler101. U20 is pointless with county players and players getting fed up. Needs to change.

And everyone else probably wasnt. If we do better come May for only 3 rounds of championship matches being played instead of 4 wouldnt that be worth it? A successful county team in football and hurling will do far more for encouraging young lads to take up gaa rather than soccer or rugby in the county than any number of club championship games.

so young lads taking up the gaa,and then they grow up and quit like a huge number of players. "And everyone else probably wasnt.",so what, the real hurling counties like offaly, dublin,is it?they could have been,i am basing on talking to suppliers here. dont forget, the ENTIRE month of April was meant for the clubs.our c/b couldnt even show them that respect, but dont they will want to sell model county tickets and flog events in the stillorgan park perfect10 (Wexford) - Posts: 3929 - 02/05/2018 10:23:38 2096188 Link 0 |
Lot of players quit due to emmigration, work, families, and other hobbies and interests. Dont think 1 extra round of championship games or not will make any difference. Shame Jack Guineys "not fit for intercounty hurling"?

While I agree the club setup is a farce, the footballers are out the weekend after next, giving them 1 weekend to prepare would not really be fair. Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 02/05/2018 16:27:24 2096268 Link 0 |
as shame, but sure same every year.

You're right. Hope he doesn't regret these years when he hits his mid 30s. Hes a seriously good heads up hurler sees the game really well and has the physique, touch and finishing to be a great of the game.

I think we need to forget about Guiney now for the rest of the year. I wouldnt slam the door on him just yet, there could be more to the story. I really wish the whole cutting Guiney every second year thing would happen at a better time of the year. I think he will only be missed if mac gets injured. We could be in touble then because doran isnt around either. Guiney wouldnt start in this team without any injuries to the first 15. Rory is on the frees now too so that seems sorted (keep chin away from them). Wexboi92 (Wexford) - Posts: 74 - 04/05/2018 18:22:27 2096708 Link 0 |
I know lots in the county like the old fashioned big full forward you belt ball in on top of, but the game has moved on, and especially for Wexford we play with 5 forwards. Having one with no pace means it's very hard to compete with 5 forwards against 6 backs. I don't think Guiney would start if everyone was fit, I don't think he'd start even with current injuries unless another few lads got hurt. He has skills and I actually like him as a hurler, but I don't think his skills match what this Wexford team needs, and he doesn't seem like the kind of lad to change his game to make the team. icehonesty (Wexford) - Posts: 2581 - 04/05/2018 21:56:34 2096740 Link 0 |
We all need to focus on those who are involved, and forget about those who are not for whatever reason(s). Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 08/05/2018 15:08:36 2097304 Link 0 |
Watched training on Sunday before the Feile finals - looked good. I saw a few of the lads were sitting it out due to injuries, e.g. Liam Rochford had a bandage from ankle to knee but most of the main players were all involved. Liam Og was training with the rest of the squad but its still early in his recovery. AnnesBacker (Wexford) - Posts: 11 - 08/05/2018 17:31:55 2097347 Link 0 |
I was at training the other night and couldn't help noticing that Paul Codd was back training with the butlers. He struck over every free and was a fantastic fielding high ball in the full forward line. Great to see Codd back@wexfordweekly logger (Wexford) - Posts: 307 - 08/05/2018 19:23:42 2097375 Link 0 |
Anyone have any update on the minors this weekend? Any good players to watch out for??? alwaysasub (Wexford) - Posts: 500 - 09/05/2018 08:40:03 2097439 Link 0 |
Its a massive game for them. If they lose they could be staring down the barrel of tier two minor hurling next year. Its s round robin scenario similar to the senior championship. How did the schools get on? Also is there still a wexford combined schools team?
