They wont be the only county who has done this, plenty will have blatantly ignored the directive. Got to trust the manager on this one in my opinion. Theres clearly more to the Guiney story than is being told. To me it looks like the management are doing their best to manage a tricky situation, keeping the door open. Correct me if I am wrong here, and I could well be, but I was under the impression that that trip to New York midway through the league was entirely a fundraising trip for this training camp only. I thought that the directive was that no county board were allowed pay for a foreign training camp so by raising the money to pay for it themselves they are effectively cicumventing the rules. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1502 - 27/04/2018 16:50:25 2095328 Link 0 |
Well that's not what was said on the trip and in anything I've read about it.

That was a fundraising for Wexford GAA not Wexford hurling

hurlorhurley, dont you know that wexford gaa is wexford hurling, or vice versa. Do you really expect that other big-ball game to get a share of the funds ?? yelowbelly (Wexford) - Posts: 409 - 29/04/2018 19:15:42 2095611 Link 0 |
Anyone know how the lads got on in Portugal.. hope there is no new injury concerns... really looking forward to championship opener against Dublin hope we get it right on the day with the right team picked... i was reading yesterday that Wexford haven't beating Dublin in the championship since 2008... hope we can put that right in 4 weeks... hope we can get everyone back 100 percent mainly the lads with niggling injuries like Nolan McDonald chin O Hanlon etc... I would go with a team of fanning reck Ryan Donohoe foley O Hanlon Murphy o keefe foley J o Conor Nolan Rory o Connor McDonald Morris obviously with positional changes etc... hopefully we get the bench strengthened aswell with Dunbar dunne Tompkins Harry Keogh options for the forwards and Moore firman for the backs gannett83 (Wexford) - Posts: 322 - 30/04/2018 08:55:10 2095647 Link 0 |
I hope Wexford do get the book thrown at them for their trip to Portugal - April was Club month and there should of been a full round of hurling / football played last weekend .. Instead we are expected to sit on our holes until August now .. It shows a complete lack of respect for our Clubs and Club Championship by both the County Board for agreeing to this and the Senior Management Committee MyOhMi (Wexford) - Posts: 208 - 30/04/2018 11:30:12 2095682 Link 0 |
do not care how they got on,there should a been a full round of clubs matches this weekend.we are conceding ground to other sports, handing them players on a plate, due to the disorganised, haphazard nature of our club situation.why would a club player bother?1 game.3 if you are a dual player.what a farce. perfect10 (Wexford) - Posts: 3929 - 30/04/2018 11:31:15 2095684 Link 0 |
As mentioned in a post on other topic, the clubs are the county board if the clubs are not happy, then the clubs need to come up with fresh faces and fresh ideas for our county board. hurlorhurley (Wexford) - Posts: 1660 - 30/04/2018 11:53:14 2095690 Link 0 |

I don't think that's really appropriate do you?? . Rumours are rumours... this is a young chap we are talking about here. Criticising his playing fair enough but anything other then that is bad form wexcore (Wexford) - Posts: 740 - 30/04/2018 21:52:44 2095825 Link 0 |

It's good to see that nothing has changed. There's a few on here that are not happy unless they have something to moan about. I think it's better clubs have not had a full quota of matches in April as some of them could have had a very short season. There'll be plenty of time to play club games, but for the moment, I'm looking forward to 20th May. gminor (Wexford) - Posts: 488 - 01/05/2018 01:21:49 2095859 Link 0 |
I think the danger is that GAA is rapidly heading down the road of other sports where unless your on the intercounty team then no body really cares. The days of people volunteering at club level will quickly dry up as people become more frustrated with the club scene. Intercounty managers are being paid more than a decent wage, and players are getting well looked after now in terms of gear, equipment and expenses that are more than enough. Professionalism is only 10-15 years away. hurlorhurley (Wexford) - Posts: 1660 - 01/05/2018 11:35:06 2095930 Link 0 |
I agree with everything out say but for some unknown reason the county finals in Wexford along with other counties never took place until October, even when the old intercounty system prevailed. The current system of trying to rush club championship games off in April is a joke and as I already said if 3 rounds were played during the month of April and a team lost all 3 games, then that's them finished for the year. It would be difficult for such a club to field a team for playoff games later in the year. And on the other hand, if the the intercounty team fail to get into the next stage of the championship, which cold happen, then their hurling season could be over by mid June. If the GAA, along with the GPA and the new club association don't get together and work out a system that will prolong the hurling season, in a way that club teams get more regular games, then make no mistake about it, the game of hurling is going to die. You cannot market a product for 4 weeks of the year and expect it to survive. The GAA have neglected hurling hugely over the years. We're now in 2018 and the game of hurling has not progressed one ioata since the late 50s early 60s, if anything it has regressed. The same counties that were competitive then, including Offaly, are still the only counties playing top flight hurling. The crowd in the cushy jobs on County Boards, Provincials committes and at Headquarters are more interested in shoving one another around and maintaining the status quo than trying to develop hurling in a meaningful way. gminor (Wexford) - Posts: 488 - 01/05/2018 14:23:18 2095991 Link 0 |
I agree I feel that people are slamming county board etc but the only reason there was not more club matches played in April is due to freak weather that delayed county games Yellow (Wexford) - Posts: 589 - 01/05/2018 14:32:57 2095997 Link 0 |
how?what was wrong with weather the weekend just gone?
