Should James Owens be sanctioned?

James Owens says he saw the Austin Gleeson incident. That implies he decided to ignore the rules of the game. I'd say Cork fans are particularly annoyed. Should a referee face consequences for ignoring rules??? In my opinion yes. That is their sole function. Any ref can make a mistake bit to admit he saw it but did nothing?? Where does this end?? I guess that's up to the referees assessor. I think you can get demoted for poor performances. I watched the game back and that incident aside I thought he was a bit easier on Cork than Waterford. He gave Cork some highly contentious frees. Other frees that I thought were harsh against Waterford on first view were really good spots by Owens. Overall he did a good job. To the letter of the law Gleeson on Meade was a red card and it was missed. He had his linesman with him (Gavin possibly or McGrath) and he missed it too. looking at the photo on the home page how can anyone say the rule about helmet interference is stupid or wrong,look how close Gleesons fingers are to the Cork players eye,he could have done serious damage,a poster said in trying to make out it wasnt too bad by saying the straps were open is also proved wrong,it should always remain a red card offence,the problem now is how can Owens ever send off player for the same offence, mooncat (Kilkenny) - Posts: 538 - 15/08/2017 19:41:17 2033827 Link

No he's not. Tell the truth. Players actions decide if he's suspended. As I said refs can make mistakes, actually it would not be normal if they didn't. We have to accept that. If he didn't see it he should have handed it over to the CCC to make judgement. The GAA Rules and the applications of the rules and a complete joke. Bad rule to begin with. Sets everyone up for a dirty kicking because there is no provision for severity of the foul. Simple a yellow card. However if the player is seriously injured and can not continue a red (that is automatic one game). If you really want to punish no return until the injured player is declared fit. Gleeson's mule head behaviour as bad as it looked was not worse than other incidents in the game. No one injured like Kevin Moran. The belt in the testicles to Moran, the kicking of Barron and the hurley into Conor Gleeson's kidneys the reason for his tap on the legs to Horgan. However these have no sensational results for the pundits and t.v. replays. Pundits need to adjust their behaviour because they are becoming annoying. It is fine to state why a player is getting sent off but refrain from adjudicating. These pundit were big names in the game with county bias and it is a lie to say that they have not influenced a hearing. If Tadgh who never pulls a mean stroke was from Clare he should be very upset to how he was treated for handing off a player who was interfering with him. This compared to the other cases. Upsetting his family until 2 a.m. in the morning 2 days before the game. The GAA got 5 or 6 million on the backs of these amateurs the last two weeks. Spot on, if he saw it & implemented the rule Cork would have been playing v 14 from early on. Canuck - two things, firstly it's now irrelevant as decision is made and gleeson will play so time to move on in that regard but secondly for Owens to say tie up your helmet shows a shocking disregard for what gleeson did...another inch and Meade could have lost an eye, we need to stop minimising tampering with helmets.....the full face guard was introduced to stop serious eye injury and tampering with them is dangerous, full stop while 90% of time no serious injury occurs what will the likes of you say when an eye is lost or seriously damaged........very concerning that a senior inter county ref has such disregard for safety of players and just illustrates how poor a ref Owens is PaudieSull1 (Down) - Posts: 738 - 15/08/2017 22:15:06 2033922 Link
