Galway Bay FM are no supporters of the Galway GAA teams, especially the footballers. I always remember the commentator calling Galway footballers "muck" when they were drawing with the Dubs in the Pearse stadium. They also have no Gaeilge on that radio station. Well said. I remember attending qualifier in pearse stadium against westmeath in 2006. The same chaos that day for people who arrived 5 minutes before hand and expected to waltz into the ground. When the connacht council are running the gate arrive early is the name of the game. A Galway/Mayo tie was always going to attract a huge crowd especially in tuam.

By extension, the same kind of people don't use common sense when travelling to Pearse Stadium on matchday. And then everyone gives out. FallenStar (Galway) - Posts: 427 - 17/01/2019 11:58:07 2157731 Link 0 |
Well said old friend. They are ghastly altogether. Sure with Barry Cullinane, Diarmuid Blake and the adonis Frank Morris - sure what could a lad expect !

So north galway men do you think if it was connacht final day we should erect tents and camp over night to be able to get into venue in time or can the logistics of tuam be altered for the bigger day...

and by the way i arrived well before 1 but with tail back and as long as it took to get parking in this ill planned venue it was 1:55 when i got into ground.... not advocating pearse as the answer but a major step up on that place squares_edge (Galway) - Posts: 680 - 17/01/2019 13:08:09 2157755 Link 0 |
Belclare lives and works in the town so be careful if you're going to debate traffic issues with him

Make up your mind what time you arrived at? 1pm well before ? or 1 15? Ill planned? Do back in the fifties they should have been thinking about people who wanted to park at the gate? As a matter of interest where did you park? And where were you travelling from? Belclare1 (Galway) - Posts: 1626 - 17/01/2019 14:24:00 2157787 Link 0 |
As i stated already the only traffic issues were the people who tried to park at the gates of the pitch... And if they got caught after well then good enough for them... Oh and by the way.. nice try but nope not working or living in Tuam.. Belclare1 (Galway) - Posts: 1626 - 17/01/2019 14:26:43 2157788 Link 0 |
The annual Tuam AC 8k takes place this Sunday at 2.30 and it will pass near the stadium. There will be extra traffic and maybe a few restrictions after the game. Last Sunday was enjoyable for the middle of January hopefully more of the same at the weekend. Pullin.lambs1 (Galway) - Posts: 78 - 17/01/2019 15:34:10 2157807 Link 0 |
I thought the town was buzzing on Sunday and brillant athmosphere. i left Briarhill just before 12.55 and got to the roundabout in Tuam at end of Motorway at 1.15ish . Bit of a backlog there so went straight on towards Milltown and in Ballygaddy rd and parked in O'Tooles .Was outside pitch at 1.30 . Only problem was got caught somewhere Saturday and couldn't get to a Supervalue so 1.45 before I got into pitch but that was partially my own fault even though I wouldn't say Connacht Council covered themselves in glory. Some of the people in the queue had tickets and were in the q for 10mins before they realised they could have joined a shorter q. fairplay4ever (Galway) - Posts: 433 - 17/01/2019 16:08:24 2157820 Link 0 |
Yeah, there's an exhilarating atmosphere in Tuam on match days v Mayo - and bear in mind an FBD round. Can't wait for the league to start - hopefully people will have worked out suitable parking areas for themselves, and arrive early.. Let's all get behind the stadium project. Long term, it will benefit Galway football hugely.

Was watching Armagh v Tyrone yesterday evening was just thinking it would be great if Tuam stadium could be developed like Athelic grounds hold around 12k people great Atmosphere floodlights I know it will take time and money but I really think we as a county should aspire to make it happen in my opinion it's the way 2 go , Kickitout (Galway) - Posts: 1069 - 20/01/2019 11:04:06 2158361 Link 0 |
Any timescale for the completion of the stand and dressing rooms?? Maroonbenny (Galway) - Posts: 7 - 23/01/2019 20:23:51 2159164 Link 0 |
lights are key and there are issues with tuam and pearse for them....as for 12,000 attendances that would be fine for league games but no good for championship- do we not want to play the majority of our games in the same pitch? squares_edge (Galway) - Posts: 680 - 23/01/2019 21:28:58 2159175 Link 0 |

Just a note, thought there was a good atmosphere in Pearse Stadium yesterday, its great to have nearly 9,000 Galway fans at the matches, hopefully we continue to support teams in Maroon no matter where they play. puckemhard (Galway) - Posts: 235 - 28/01/2019 09:12:31 2160232 Link 6 |
Galway football people should be proud of the Tuam Stadium tradition. I'm sure most of the contributors have fond memories of playing on the hallowed turf. Really (Galway) - Posts: 633 - 25/02/2019 12:28:22 2167949 Link 0 |
