Billions? Really! To be fair they get a lot compared to their playing population. But regarding the infrastructure projects the government get a big payback with spending in the economy. The problem with large gaa infrastructure is that most are under used. In this province alone we have Hyde, McHale park, Pearse Stadium, Markovic park. It is hard to get government money in those circumstances. At most each get 4 league games and possible 2 championship matches. Whereas with Connacht Rugby you have 1 stadium in the province and you get minimum 10 league games and 2 European games at home. Municipal centres like the indoor air dome at the centre of excellence will be the type of projects that can get funding. Projects like Tuam should also be supported because it is a smaller scale stadium and had a big catchment area and will probably be used a lot. MacHale park is a great asset to Mayo and Castlebar. The Hyde is a great asset to Roscommon too. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2614 - 30/06/2019 18:43:25 2203046 Link 0 |

Is it the coaches and parents you're giving credit to or Tuam Stadium, I can't tell.... FallenStar (Galway) - Posts: 427 - 06/07/2019 11:07:38 2206178 Link 0 |

Not sure myself, maybe someone else can englighten us? I've posed the question before of what people are expecting in the end? Even if you get a much improved Tuam Stadium at 12'000 capacity (which would be great btw) Pearse is still twice the size and you would imagine will still take priority for the bigger games. Hay shed is next. Then the roof to cover it all. Not sure where they are finance wise to continue on.

Financially they have the money for the new stand improvements which will only be the existing stand firstly. New roof and new seating. They also plan on developing the field behind the stand for a warm up area.. The late Joe O Toole left money in his will to help towards the redevelopment. Agree but wouldn't it be better to see Tuam filled to captivity rather than 6 or 7 thousand in Salthill.
