New Fermanagh Manager

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Replying To The_Rat:  "It's becoming quite obvious that Pete McGrath having had his ego damaged is digging an ever bigger hole for himself by his deliberate media crusade against the players concerned by giving his selective take as to why the Fermanagh team rejected him. Meanwhile, the real truth remains untold by the players and their silence is not only diplomatic but a clever, welcomed and praiseworthy position to adapt.

Now to the important stuff, who is likely to take the vacant manager's position? Those in the frame so far include Dom Corrigan, Ciaran Donnelly, Sean Cavanagh (retiring this year from county football), former manager John Maughan, Oisin McConville and there's the want-to-be county manager Aidan Gilroy or even Charlie Mulgrew who gets a recall mention on social media! But what about the talented Derrygonnelly club manager, Martin Greene? He comes with a pretty healthy success in club football. Then there are the former county footballers and Allstar winners Peter McGinnity (with significant managerial experience), Barry Owens and Martin McGrath all capable of giving the team a fresh start. So who is it to be? macca999 and gotmilk any thoughts?"
I said i'd like mcconville.

The McGrath - Owens partnership might work given their own experience in the Fermanagh team and their personal interactions with the many of current Fermanagh squad through club football. However, neither have managerial experience but it shouldn't exclude them from consideration.

In answer to the Lug, the Gilroy guy was mainly a dugout man acting on occasions as a match stats scribe but he was temporary manager with Ederney for near;y all of last season but suffered the same fate as Pete McGrath!

In response to gotmilk don't think McConville would be a suitable fit for Fermanagh manager.

Why you think that about McConville? Good understanding of the modern game, proven winner both as a player and a manager. Understands issues of modern players, his job involves him going to professional sporting clubs and talking to them about gambling problems etc.

McGrath/Owens both great football men but have zero managment experience. Also why would Corrigan leave Killyclogher where he has won a Tyrone county title to challenge for nothing with Fermanagh, the same for Nigel Seaney. Personally think club managers inside the county should be looked at Greene from Derrygonnelly, McLaughlin from Erne Gaels or Goan/Courtney from Irvinestown.

He carries too much baggage, not adequate intercounty management or recent experience.

He's currently working on the intercounty scene down in Laois. What baggage are you referring to? The gambling addiction that he beat, and that he now helps sportsmen both amateur and professional beat.

Hi gotmilk you don't seem to be getting much support for your McConville nomination and about sums up others have in your suggetion.
I wonder what had happened yond Gillroy man and Ederney so interesting what did happen,
I think Corrigan is being highlighted as the favourite by the media and he apparently would like an opportunity to manage Fermanagh again.
By the way is there a pay-off required to McGrath by the co board? Heard they owed him a fair bit.

Mcgrath and Owens are obvious selectors / back up to manager .. my only doubt about mcconville would be that he never thought much of Fermanagh when a pundit so why bring in a manager that doesn't have belief in us ..... Dom all the way as long as he shows more ambition than he did when he took us to Crocker last ....

Club championships will be over before a manager is appointed. It has taken the county board 6 weeks not to appoint a manager but to appoint a fu**!ng committee to pick the manager. 6 fu**!ng weeks to appoint a committee!!!!

Cool off gotmilk. Processes have to be followed and that accounts for the wee holdup. The main thing is that we get the best manager appointed to take Fermanagh out of the dismal position McGrath left them in.
Talking of McGrath, I think running to the media with every time there is a tentative enquiry from a county board seeking to fill management vacancies doesn't actually mean anything serious as all such county boards have personnel in the same position who will make dozens of calls to potential managers as part of the search in preparing a list for their core appointment committee to review and then formally invite potential applicants to apply. That's how it's done gotmilk!
Finally, the Belfast Telegraph report that Pete McGrath said "There have been tentative approaches made from Westmeath, but I don't think it is a runner given the sheer distances involved. You are talking about Rostrevor to Mullingar, it is nearly 90 miles." However, the truth is that it is 83 miles from Rostrevor to Mullingar and it was for him 77 miles to Enniskillen...that's a difference of only 5 miles which is about only5 minutes longer!!

Don't listen to the uniformed, media grabbing and shelved individual as the position will be filled by someone with a good take on the modern game and has the ability to turn around Fermanagh's fortunes and who the players will trust and support.
