Limerick Senior Hurling 2018.

What about the doubts being cast on here about the full back line and Casey in particular. They fairly answered their critics yesterday. How many full backs has Fennelly taken to the cleaners? All three were very good.

Heroes all over the field. Your midfield have really grown into it. Donovan's scores were immense.

This is the first Limerick team I remember that have six forwards that are capable of cutting loose and scoring 1-3 or 4 on a given day. With two or three more waiting to come in.

Most encouraging thing was the refusal to be beaten. That kind of character can't really be trained into lads. They need to have it and be able to deal with the weight of 45 years of history.

Really can't wait for the semi now. Pity we can't meet in the final.

this was by far the best performance from limerick this year.the comeback after the killkenny goal was really fantastic.there is something very different about the team and the never say die attitude.full back line as a unit deserve huge credit for the defending,a lot of good hard hurling maybe on the border but the cats are doing it for 10 years so we are now catching up.only for an immense display from murphy limerick would have had 3 definite goals.i think cork game will be another thriller with nothing really between both teams.both forward lines are capable of putting up huge scores.really looking forward to it.thanks again to all involved yesterday, brought me great joy and i have to admit a tear to my eye.i just hope now the weather holds out for another few weeks.

Thanks a lot for the good wishes, Perfect10. Míle buíochas!

John Kiely was a member of the extended Limerick hurling panel in 1994.
He won a Munster medal as a non-playing substitute in 1996.

He subsequently captained the Limerick senior football team.

He played club football with Galbally and hurling with "The Bouncers" (Garryspillane).

Selector in 2013 when we last won Munster hurling under John Allen.

Firstly, I have no idea as to why Clare is a topic at all on this forum. Good luck to them against Galway and I hope to see them in the final.

Yesterday was a fantastic day. Many Thanks to the players who stayed on the pitch to sign autographs and pose for pictures with the kids.

Overall, I thought we mixed the outstanding with the very ordinary. To talk about the negatives, we missed some gilt chances for goals. Flangan is a very effective ball winner and distributor but he's not a finisher and those two goal chances when we hand passed the ball to the goalie and the ground stroke in the second half could have cost us. Gillane was unlucky to not have a hat trick. The save from Hegarty was as good a save as I've ever seen but we have to be more clinical in our finishing. I'd still argue that Dowling should start.

I loved the attitude in the dying minutes especially for the point that Morrissey scored to put us ahead again. He is having an amazing year especially in the context that he was below average for the U21's last year. He's always struck me a a "natural" forward especially as a minor so I'm delighted to see him step up and show that. You have to be happy with all the half forward line who scored well throughout the game.

Our full back line were overall excellent. Mike Casey stood up at full back. The one guy who I felt was below average was Byrnes but I've great belief and faith in him as a player.

I believe that we're a better team than KK but they kept fighting and never gave up to make it a magical occasion to attend.

Roll onto Cork. I don't fear them at all.

On top of that your predictions are nearly always way wide of the mark. Remember Dublin in the League earlier in the year - you predicted Dublin would beat us by 4/5 points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man of the Match Dan Morrissey yesterday doesn't even make your first Limerick 15!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back in this beautiful Monday, Kiely and Kinnerk were vindicated yet again yesterday with their team selection.
The bench impact was huge with Dowling and Casey getting 3 of the 5 final points down the mad home stretch.

Roll on Croker. Luimneach abú!"
I backed Limerick 100% after the Ennis defeat to recover and get to croke park. I'd confidence they would and they did.

Kilkenny beat us by 3 points at home in c ship last year. .would defeat at a neutral venue by more than 3 deem this year a failure.don't think promotion as important any more with new c.ship layout.Galway won from 1b last year and could do repeat this year.kk scores from play have been dire this year .and we going in with fragile full back line no matter who starts .no point in blaming Ritchie or casey after. they just not cut out for position at this level.maybe after Sunday. people may see something in my stating to try someone out side current thinking there. wishing limerick best of luck"
Pls compare notes from another poster RE OUR FULLBACK LINE YESTERDAY..

Fantastic display and result yesterday our full back and full forward lines immense , but you gotta hand it to the two morrisseys they were outstanding, toms point after th egoal crucial but his final point was ciaran caaey esque , he could have easily made a bags of it or not taken the responsibility.

Famous win! Well done to players an management! Maybe the greatest attribute of this team is our coolness under pressure and refusing to lose our heads in in the face of ominous blows such as Richie Hogan's goal! Speaks volumes about the John Kiely factor as a manager and mentor.

To the 2 or 3 prophets of gloom and despair, doom, who posted on here in 2 days prior to match that we were doomed with Mike Casey at fullback.... take note..

Take note of Anthony Daly's comment last night..

Limerick fullback line stamped their authority on the game from the get go.

(Above can be cut out and pasted to your mirror as reminder to abandon wishful thinking.

Glad our fullback line is now resolved, essential for any further progress.

Limerick had heroes all over the field yesteday , capped off by Tom Morrissey's almost saunter up the wing, coolness personified, and "Carey-esque" score but I wanted to let comments about our full back line and Mike Casey stand alone. Great job on Colin Fennelly. Write it down!

What a win yesterday!!! as an earlier poster said "hero's all over the field" Just want to reiterate how good our fullback line was. KK targeted Colin Fennelly at the start of the game but the got little or no change from our full back line led by a great performance from Casey. Thought Finn & English were outstanding too. Not only their defending but passing out of defence was excellent.

Hopefully, the criticism on individuals can stop and we can all get behind the team & management.

AREAS TO WORK ON - also as previously mentioned some of the passing was loose and needs to be tightened up and when Gillane and Flanagan eventually get more ruthless infront of goal we will be a serious outfit. Thought Cian Lynch had a quieter than usual day yet laid off some excellent passes.

A REVELATION - the two Morrisseys deserve great credit. Not considered by many (including myself) to make the 26, both look like All Star contenders come October, with more yet to come!!

MY MOMENT OF THE MATCH - there were outstanding displays all round, including the subs, but for me Declan Hannon's score was outstanding. I felt like I was going to strike the ball myself. You could see his stride hesitating for a split second and then decided to go for it - and go for it he did. What a man

here is my post from the other thread to which patological refers : great day great performance croke park here we come, hey we might even get the term ciaran carey-esque into the oxford dictionary

Were all off to croke park were all off to croke park lalalala hey lalalala hey!!

For the kilkenny lads whinging about the ref -yes he did make mistakes but hey so did players -ye had around 16 wides, what won it was not the ref it was that we finished the games better outscored ye 5 1 after the goal.

We got huge bit of luck with three saves resulting in points (how often does that happen)

Fantastic display and result yesterday our full back and full forward lines immense , but you gotta hand it to the two morrisseys they were outstanding, toms point after the goal crucial but his final point was ciaran carey esque , he could have easily made a bags of it or not taken the responsibility.

Incredible atmosphere at the game and credit to limerick players for staying on pitch for ages afterwards signing stuff and taking photos, kids got puck about on pitch , singsong in car on way home mighty end to a special day

hopefully our minors can beat kilkenny saturday and make it a double date in croke park.

congratulations and thanks to john, declan players, coaches and staff.
