I think the venue had a lot to do with this drumming. Surely having it in a neutral venue would have resulted in a 15point beating rather than the 20+ recieved. galwayfan (None) - Posts: 764 - 08/07/2017 18:44:42 2012421 Link 1 |
Ger Cunningham

Cant be blaming the manager for everything....the players obviously not as good as they thought they were, no real natural hurlers and as for the players not making themselves available...no excuse its county hurling, should be proud to represent their county at the highest level, regardless of manager preddan (Kildare) - Posts: 801 - 08/07/2017 19:16:04 2012439 Link 1 |
Ger Cunningham has sucked the life out of the senior hurling team. Speaking to those in the know and they're all reporting the same toxic atmosphere within the camp. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13796 - 08/07/2017 19:22:21 2012443 Link 2 |
Personally speaking I'm not blaming the manager for anything, but the op posed the question 'what has happened to Dublin hurling', and whether you choose to blame players for not being good enough, or for not having any loyalty to the county team and ethos, or if you think Cunningham isn't up to the job, the catalyst for the decline of Dublin hurling over the last couple of years was the appointment of GC, and that's why I answered like I did

a lot of money being spent when other developing leinster hurling counties get very little valley84 (Westmeath) - Posts: 1903 - 08/07/2017 22:11:00 2012590 Link 3 |
He's definitely not 100% to blame but he did axe a good few players prematurely which Dublin can't afford to do ,football's obviously the big draw in the capital but the hurler need to do everything possible to keep naturally talented players like Danny Sutcliffe on board , it's tragic he's not playing . It is nothing to do with money what the Dublin County board chooses to waste its own money on is Dublin's business and no one else's. Cuala are All Ireland club champions its Minor and U21's compete at the highest levels it is down to coaching end off.

Lads ye can blame the manager, the venue, the alignment of the planets and anything else ye can think of, but the fact that there were senior club games scheduled to conflict with this game says everything you need to know about the attitude of the DCB regarding the senior hurling team. The manager has to convince players to turn their back on their clubs in order to play for the county. Set up to fail. Bloody disgraceful. festinog (Galway) - Posts: 3148 - 09/07/2017 01:18:41 2012720 Link 2 |
Yeah I don't mind tne GAA spending lots of money developing Dublin hurling per se. I have a big problem with the hatchet job that was allowed happen to Dublin hurling after the money and time was invested. Imagine how good Westmeath hurling would be with half the investment Dublin got. The developing Leinster teams and Antrim had to beg the GAA for money a couple of years ago. It's not good enough. Completely wrong. The manager has to carry the can. It's a side show to blame the fixing of county league games. It's not ideal to do that but it's not the reason for the poor show yesterday. The venue was of course a disgusting decision. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 09/07/2017 08:52:05 2012780 Link 0 |
Lads who don't play , lads who wont play , no passion heart its a disaster we are going backwards which is tragic considering what's happening at ground level , we are at a good level at underage but not bringing it to senior , county board need to step in get a good coach with a bit of vision , Damothedub (Dublin) - Posts: 5193 - 09/07/2017 09:37:56 2012797 Link 0 |
Ger Cunningham should definitely go. The atmosphere in the camp isn't good and at the end of the day it is about the players. bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 09/07/2017 09:42:51 2012800 Link 0 |
Ya on hearing that club games were being played in Dublin was a disgrace. It shows a lack of respect to all hurling people in Dublin. It's just sad. If club games were to be played today in Tipp with Munster final on the club games would be on at 12 or 7 tonight so lads could watch Munster final. It's a proper Gaa thing to do. therealtmo (Tipperary) - Posts: 1292 - 09/07/2017 10:03:40 2012811 Link 0 |
Sad to see Dublin hurling fall like this. Talking to some of their fans at the game they need to get players back if they don't this current crop of players won't challenge for honours soon. WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 09/07/2017 10:14:18 2012818 Link 0 |
One would think from their action that there's an element within the DCB who are keen to obstruct the development of hurling in Dublin. Complaining about the venue, with good reason, and at the same time fixing matches that coincided with the game is unbelievable. Hurling is obviously the poor relation and all eyes on the money making bigger ball.
