Club Championships 2017

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Back into the swing of things at the weekend I'll go with the following predictions

Senior football:
Starlights v shels- shels
Martins v taghmon- martins
Glynn v annes- glynn
Gusserane v horeswood- gusserane
Fethard v st james- james barely could be a draw
Castletown v sarsfields- castletown

Intermediate:
Duffry v st joesphs- joesphs( seemed to have gained a few from the town transfer circus)
Adamstown v clongeen - Adamstown
Ballyhogue v maudlintown -draw
Ferns v bunclody- ferns
Bannow v kilarerin - bannow
Fintans v rosslare- fintans

Predictions for the year:
1 last county title for this oulart team, glynn to go 1 step further and win the football(sarsfields to go down to intermediate seemed to have lost players through the transfers),intermediate football to be very competitive hesitant vote for Adamstown to go straight back to senior and crossabeg to win the hurling

Senior football:
Starlights v shels- shels easy
Martins v taghmon- martins even easier
Glynn v annes- Glynn by 4 - 6 points
Gusserane v horeswood- possible draw
Fethard v st james- St James by the minimum
Castletown v sarsfields- castletown by a landslide

Verdict: Castletown to be very strong with all the outsiders they have brought in and could win it out but I fancy Glynn to win the title they should have won last year.

Intermediate:
Duffry v st joesphs- Impossible to know... Josephs have loads of new players but soccer is still on so Ill go with Duffry
Adamstown v clongeen - Adamstown by a few
Ballyhogue v maudlintown -Ballyhogue by a couple
Ferns v bunclody- ferns
Bannow v kilarerin - No brosnan anymore and kilanerin with the tara rocks players on board swings it their way. Kilanerin by 4 -6 points
Fintans v rosslare- Fintans comfortable

Verdict: A very tough championship to call. Cant see Bannow competing again without brosnan. Kilanerin and adamstown obvious contenders but wont be surprised with a bold showing from one of the town teams if not both. Will still go with Kilanerin based on amalgamation and the matty factor.

Senior
Shels v stars- Shels comfortable I'd say
Castletown v Sars - castletown easy
Glynn v Anne's- hardest to call in group but I'll go for Glynn just

Martin's v taghmon - closer than people think but Martin's will win
Gusserane v horeswoood- interesting encounter . Lot of talk in horeswood but nothing proven yet. I'll go gusserane
Jimmies v fethard - jimmies should win this one going on last couple of years but should be close

Inter
Bunclody v ferns - bunclody
Adamstown v clongeen - adamstown
Ballyhogue v maudlintown - ballyhogue
Rosslare v Fintans - Fintans
Duffry v Joseph's - Joseph's

Is the not a new rules that lads involved in County Minor Set Ups are not allowed to train or play games with adult club teams until the county minor is over?

By god I hope that is not the case!!!! Club teams should at minimum be allowed to see their county minors for one session the week of match and goes without saying that they should most certainly not be asked to train a morning that they could be playing championship with their club.
At least from next year on this wont be an issue anymore

The minors (in both hurling and football) and under 17s have been a complete shambles so far and it's really no surprise. We need sensible, non biased, organised people to look after these teams. Not lads looking to massage their own egos and get lads from their own clubs into panels and onto teams

Easy win for St. Martin's. Looked in control all game against Taghmon.

19 wides for Glynn yesterday. Same problem as last year. They'd be dangerous if they could score

Anyone see the games today ? Castletown mighty impressive winners against Sarsfields. Them and Martins look to be the early contenders.

Yeah glynn and the annes was a strange game early on the actual general play was even but glynn was unbelievably wasteful and the annes were very efficient to lead 1-5 0-0, then annes didnt score for 30 mins and fall 1 point behind but eventually edged it.

Martins and taghmon was men against boys stuff but the last few years martins have steamrolled teams in there group but come unstuck later in the year.

Not big shocks over the weekend rosslare beating fintans was a surprise and maudlintown having 11 points to spare over ballyhogue was a standout scoreline

Glynn very wasteful alrite but far the better team and referee did not help things either. They should still have plenty to make a run in the championship.
Castletown look immense. As strong a starting 15 as you will see. Morris' influence is stamped all over them, so efficient with the ball and great defence as always. Have certainly made themselves leading contenders now along with Martins.

agree totally both martins and castletown looked very strong, but while taghmon looked out of their dept , they forced 4/5 good saves from the martins keeper, and they very same with sars, im guessing about 15 wides, missed 3 open goals and had a keeper with no kick out

Look lads its not about wat chances you missed, its all about out scoring the opposition, simple, Castletown to win championship. Sars to be relegated
