Brolly: Kerry were like the little girl in 'The Exorcist'

September 26, 2014

Joe has managed to find some similarities.

Joe Brolly has launched a fresh attack on the Kerry footballers in the aftermath of their All-Ireland SFC final victory over Donegal.

In his latest column for Gaelic Life magazine, the outspoken pundit accuses the Kingdom of bringing 'puke football' to a new level, comparing their performance last Sunday to the possessed, projectile-vomiting character Regan in the famous 1973 horror movie 'The Exorcist'.

"If Tyrone introduced puke football, then on Sunday in Croke Park, Kerry were the little girl in 'The Exorcist' whose head revolves as she machine-guns the walls with a torrent of vomit," he wrote.

"In the 2003 semi-final, Tyrone were excoriated for tackling Kerry ferociously. Even their 2005 and 2008 triumphs (the 2005 final was one of the greatest games I have ever seen), were dismissed as somehow being underhand.

"In the 2011 semi-final, Donegal's strategy against the Dubs prompted booing in the stadium and outrage in the country. When, the following year, they beat Kerry in a dramatic, albeit fairly one-sided game, Jack O'Connor said that such an abomination would never be possible in Kerry."

The former Derry star added: "The 2014 All-Ireland final duly enters the annals as the worst final ever played. The first quarter of the second half was afterwards described by Kieran Donaghy as "feeling like about three years". If it felt like that for one of the players, spare a thought for the rest of us.

"Well done Kerry, but you can get off your high horse now. Maybe it's only puke football if someone else is playing it."
