A Decisive Performance by Grattan's
The Game - the first half.
A very lively and clinically professional Knock's side rather easily retained the Fermanagh under sixteen hurling championship trophy, when they rather easily disposed of a lack lustre Lisbellaw team. Many of which had their eyes on next week's All-Ireland Feile Na Gael to beheld next week-end 19th, 20th and 21st of June. Back to the match. It was the St Patrick's side's mid-fielder Daniel Teague to got this lively encounter of to a scoring start, when pucked the slithor over for his, his team and the this game's first score, a well taken point from play. As indicator of his opponents scoring capabilities Knock's full forward Lowell Hoban quickly fired over to bring this match to a draw. However it was they then very alert Lisbellaw side who grabbed the next two scores. A brilliant goal by their left full forward Christopher Corry. Then quickly followed up by a point by the latter's team mate and right full back Cahir McElroy. Though they Knock's side did step up to the scoring plate a short time later, when their right full forward Cillian McElroy popped over his sides second point from play, Lisbellaw continued to hold tenuous grip on the games first quarter, leading by 1 goal 2 points to 2 points for the industrious but as yet lightly scoring Grattan's outfit. That Knock's scoring anomingly was about be put right, when at the beginning of the matches second quarter, Grattan's right half forward Martin Beagen sailed over a well taken third point for they east Fermanagh side. Though their opponents did quickly with two points by the very inform Daniel Teague. And as the opening half was coming to a close the Knock's massively stepped their quality of scoring, when Cillian McElroy blasted home Grattan's first goal. Though their mid-Fermanagh opponents went off the pitch at the games interval with modest one point lead, there was indication in the last quarter of this game that the Knock's "were up" for retain this competitions trophy.
Half-time scores
Knock's Grattan's, 1 gl. 3 pts; Lisbellaw St Patrick's, 1 gls. 4 pts.
The Knock's Firmly On Top
Within a minute of this games resumption the Grattan's set about copper their grip on the under 16 trophy, when their erstwhile goalie Rory McGrade now improvised as side point score. Clipping over four points in a eight minute period to firmly stamp the knock's authority on this game's early second half. One from a free, two from play and one from a 65. Grattan's copper fastening grip on the game came minutes later, when Caillion McElroy blasted home his and sides second goal. By end of the games third quarter the Lisbellaw side had almost "thrown in" the scoring towel, with the exception of the industrious Daniel Teague, who popped over his sides fourth and fifth points. With a later third quarter scores of 2 goals 5 points for the Grattan's to 1 goal and five points it appeared to the unitiated that this game could be won by either team. But to the more expert the Lisbellaw side had become exhausted and listless running after the Grattan hurling shadows. As the games fourth was entered the tireless dynamo of St Patrick's Daniel Teague continued to wear down his opponents dominance with one last point from himself and his bedraggled team. However the Knock's side added three quality taken points from play from the stick Rory McGrade to put this game firmly out of reach of their Lisbellaw listless challengers.
