Underage football success for Tempo Maguires club
September 12, 2007
Tempo are the new Fermanagh U-16 football champions, when on Sunday, 9th of September at Emmet Park, Lisnaskea they defeated Enniskillen Gaels in a well-contested encounter on a scoreline of 3-3 to 0-10.
The opening half of this traditional curtain-raiser to the senior final was close and competitive in the opening half with the Tempo side ahead at the break by 1-2 to 0-4. The decisive score i this half came at the end of the first quarter when Seamus Bogue fisted to the Enniskillen Gaels net.
Enniskillen Gaels started the second-half in determined fashion and with Richard O'Callaghan showing up well in the midfield sector they looked as if they could go on and win the game. However, they couldn't put that superiority on the scoreboard, and two second-half goals for the Tempo side was enough to give them the honours.
This victory was achieved by the side that took advantage of their goal-scoring opportunities, while the defence held firm especially in the closing ten minutes when Enniskillen Gaels went all-out to get the winning scores.
Enniskillen Gaels for their part will rue their missed scoring opportunities. They had enough quality possession to win the game but they lacked the cutting edge in attack in the end.
