10 Fermanagh players test positive for Covid-19

The Fermanagh players warm up.

The Fermanagh senior football squad has been massively impacted by Covid-19 with 10 players testing positive for the virus and a further seven self-isolating as a precaution.

It follows the decision by the Fermanagh county board to suspend all Gaelic games activity within the county last Wednesday.

Erne County manager Ryan McMenamin confirmed the news on RTÉ's Sunday Sport programme, as his severely depleted side remain scheduled to face Clare in their Allianz League Division 2 clash in Ennis next Sunday.

The three-time Tyrone All-Ireland winner is struggling to get a team together for the trip to Cusack Park while some of the players who tested positive are due to come out of isolation the day before but it would seem unrealistic to ask them to play.

"There is a lot forgotten about in this pandemic that these lads have actually contracted something," McMenamin said.

"People probably think, 'ah well, you'll have the 10 boys back.' But I can't expect 10 players to just come back in and play a league game.

"Any conversations I've had with them is that they're totally, totally wrecked. They're totally gone.

"Any bit of movement at all, they can't go. It's actually a bit scary."
