Dublin GAA fans are lamenting the loss of the popular ‘Dub Match Tracker’ Twitter account which live tweeted its last game on Sunday.

The Dublin senior ladies’ All-Ireland final victory over Kerry was a fitting farewell for the account which had 40,000 followers and had been run by David Whelan since 2011.

"We’ve been blessed in the last 12yrs with all the brilliant days that our Minor, U21 & Senior lads and ladies have given us,” Whelan said in a Twitter post.

“So thank you to all those players and managers who made those days happen. I’m sure I was a pain sometimes with questions and clarifications re fixtures etc, but thanks to the stewards and staff of @DubGAAOfficial who were always very good to me in Parnell Park.

"Thanks to everyone who followed, interacted, slagged, jeered and corrected me over the years. I got to meet and know a lot of great people through DMT with some great days and laughs along the way."
