The official opening of Billings Park in Belfield took place last night.
Three-in-a-row All-Ireland champions Dublin beat UCD 7-10 to 1-17 in a SF challenge to mark the official opening, which was performed by GAA president Aogan O Fearghail and Annette Billings, wife of the late Dave Billings, who the new pitch is named after.
An All-Ireland football medallist in 1974, Billings later served as a selector under both Tommy Lyons and Paul Caffrey, and also as manager of the Dublin U21 team. He also had a brief spell in charge of the Dublin senior hurlers and was the driving force by the GAA in UCD for many years.
He passed away suddenly in April 2015.
