* ACFL Division 1 An Riocht 0-10 Rostrevor 0-10 by Anthony Rogers
An under strength An Riocht fought hard to draw with Rostrevor at Dunavil on Friday night, however both teams performances were not senior standard
An Riocht were without starred players Martin Clarke and Declan Doyle as well as Christopher Killen, James Colgan, Deaglan O'Reilly, Paul Murney and Jim Clarke who were unavailable due to injury while Rostrevor had to field without ace player Sean Parr.
The game got under way with Paddy Cole converting a dead ball, Adrian Mackin then scored the first of his three points. Ronan McAlinden who was making his senior debut didn't take long to get himself on the scoreboard after Sean Clarke made a brilliant pass over the head of Ryan Carvill straight into McAlindens hands who popped it over the bar. Adrian Mackin and Conor Mackin caused trouble for An Riocht however Conor McVeigh stood up the challenge and made some first class blocks to keep Rostrevor out.
The game was played at a poor standard, mistake after mistake and both set of supporters were getting frustrated. An Riocht were boosted by the arrival of John Clarke onto the field and the team began to lift their game with his appearance.
Dermot Morgan found himself in front of goal but failed to beat Brendan McVeigh who made an all-star save. Rostrevor keeper Jonathan Parr scored a fifty at the end of the half to send Rostrevor in leading 5 points to 4 at the break.
The second half began with Rostrevor adding two more points through John Fegan and Conor Magee.
John Clarke made a great solo down the sideline and then found Ronan McAlinden who added to his tally. An Riocht were then awarded a penalty when Paddy Cole was brought down in the box. Ronan McAlinden hit the penalty but couldn't beat Jonathan Parr in the Rostrevor goal. McAlinden didn't let the penalty miss affect him as he managed to get himself 7 points in all.
Both teams had their chances to win the game however both managers will settle for the point. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Paul Allen injured in Fridays match.
